1. power armour. i never use

2. i never like to fail a settlement

3. I sell every weapon except unique and legendary ones
Generally speaking that's my play style as well. At one point , I made it a goal to collect every PA in the game and DLC. Perhaps if you could pack the PA in your inventory, like 76, I may have used the PA more but I felt if used PA, then its all in, and if you didn't, then you largely built your character to survive the wasteland with regular armor.

I usually do minutemen quests for the beginning portion of the game, and then move on to BOS, and then Railroad, but if I see a quest to defend a settlement, I do that to keep them going

I'm at a point where I know where the OP armor and weapons are, and do what I can to get them as early as possible. I get a sniper rifle in Cambridge, a combat rifle in Revere and eventually when I have enough caps buy the Overseer's guardian and as mentioned in a prior post combat armor in Somerville. These items are usually locked behind levels but so getting them early makes your character able to one or two shoot everything.

I loot and sell every other weapon, since getting .45 ammo as a low level is rare, so you have to buy it

Enjoying my revisit, not actively avoiding the factions, but not in a rush to make any big decisions. doing all the independent quests, and the creation club new ones, and mostly if im honest, flitting between the save xxx farmstead quests and building up those settlements, and creating water and food. and in between every quest im therefore generally hitting every settlement once, collecting my rent (water and food) and adding a few things. The money you can make from just having a decent water production in every camp is huge, not that im sure what im going to do with it all.

One thing ive noticed is that unlike other games, i apply certain rules to my gameplay, some without seeing them as rules.

1. power armour. i never use, its too over powered. i have only two acceptable cases for use. firstly, in the very rare situation where ive tried the mission a few times and came to the conclusion its too hard without a suit, but i think thats happened once. most of the time i would go away and come back much later. the other situation is, that i allow myself if i find a power armour in the middle of a mission, im allowed to put it on and use it until i get back to sanctuary. Similar to this, less of a rule, but im not so keen on using fat boys or other heavy weaponry, unless i really feel they deserve it and its needed.

2. i never like to fail a settlement, so any time it pops up xxx is under attack, i stop what im doing and go. and if i miss one and i only notice it when it fails, im looking at my autosaves to go back.

3. I sell every weapon except unique and legendary ones. And also, i never sell any unique clothing or armour, inluding anything with someones name on it, or from a mission. not sure what im going to do with it, but in my house i have separate lockers for different types of clothing and weapons.
I do a stealth assassin build. Power armor is clunky as hell and the non-auto pistol buffs are strong enough to waste most enemies with a couple of shots, one shot if shooting from stealth.

I enjoy establishing and supporting settlements, it originally got me vested in the Commonwealth, and I love sneaking though Boston’s urban environment. For it’s time, the game setting is a work of art. Yes, Night City is more impressive, but it’s newer! The Boston environment holds up nicely for this story.

I do that too, store unique looking armor, I equip settlers with gear upgrades although they really don’t need them and sell everything else, although I spend most of my time in a long coat but it’s likely I’ll switch over to a Project Valkyrie mod outfit.

I make aesthetic decisions even when it makes it harder, although if you saw some of my massive water production facilities you would disagree. ive always got my companions nicely dressed so no armour for them. it does mean they go down 1 minute into any fight and only come back to me when its over but thats the price I pay for good taste.

recently realised you can change the numbers and colours of vault jumpsuits and im at a crossroads as I want to be consistent. so far ive made everyone in sanctuary have a different colour vault outfit which im liking, but then how do I move forward consistently? part of me wants to make each settlement a different colour but there's not enough colours plus it would clash with sanctuary.

There is a Ballistic Weave Mod that gives regular clothing more protection value. If you are playing the Next Gen Patch, it might be in the Bethesda mods selection (Steam listed on game start). I am playing the Pre-Next Gen Patch, not an official name, just the patch before the Next Gen Patch landed.

Personally I ditched my vault suit asap, because I felt it had a bad rep in the Commonwealth and seemed out of place for anything other than a "sterile environment" that a vault might offer.

Apologies, I forget without going back and searching posts, if this your first time playing through?

At some stage ill play far enough on the railroad quest lines to get balistic weave, but i was staying away from any of taking sides until ive ran out of other things to do.

i get what you are saying but everyone looks so cute wearing the jumpsuits :) I just cant decide what would look better, the randomness of everyone wearing different, or the uniformity of

strangely Fallout 4 (and NV) are two of the only games ive ever played more than once. Outer Worlds i did twice mainly to remind myself how it worked when the Dlc's arrived. My first playthrough was on a 2011 imac with bootcamp, where i had to play in 640x480 and any difficult fighting had to be done via VATS as the frame rate dropped and the game crashed every 5 mins, but i was so smitten by 3 and NV.

i then played through again on PS4 with all DLC, then played through again on my 2017 imac with bootcamp so i could play all the fan dlc mods. similarly did NV for all the fan expansions for that. Now im having a vanilla playthrough on PS5, which should tide me until Fallout London comes out when ill either go back to the imac or try whisky or crossover on my macbook air M2.

If you remember some of those decisions are fairly easy with the message you get saying "if you do this quest, you'll become enemies with the xxxxx". Just don't do the ones you don't want to with the understanding that
you are either with the Institute or your blow it up.
and you can remain friends with 3 of the factions by a certain path of incomplete quests. This is without mods. :)

had to rewind 3 days losing a lot of gameplay, because of a bug with spectacle island.

If youve never heard of spectacle island, nor had i with all my previous playthroughs, but googling about the best settlements lead me to it. its the big island just off the south east of the map, near the castle.

turns out its the biggest settlement area in the game, however a lot of players would never find it. if you do go there, make sure you follow the instructions to the letter otherwise a glitch stops you from taking it.

its easy. get on the island. go straight to the small hut with the radio tower. pick up and read the note. go to the part sunk boat, flip the switch. go back to the hut, flip that switch. a weird noise will scare off all of the mikelurks and its your settlement. if you do anything else, in particular if you flip either switch before reading the note, it cant be recovered.

of course, id gone there, found the boat, flipped the switch. nothing happened. went off and did lots of far harbour. went back to it. googled. realised. had to go back to an old save. but its worth it, i feel im going to build a small town on it, there's so much space.

I did that once and found it unsatisfactory. I don't think that outcome was ever intended, and either due to a bug, or an unforeseen consequence to the game/quest design allows people to back into saving all of the factions (except for the Institute).

What about the giant Murlock? 😝 Somehow I never had problems out there. i resented having to swim there, unless you or someone is going t tell me there is another way. 😳 I wanted a boat to drive me back and forth to the mainland though, not fast travel. :)

It was not intended, but I preferred it initially even though I had to blow up the Institute which I hated doing. If I had to kill someone besides the Institute, it would be the BOS, but I prefer the over throw them scenarios provided by a content mod.

you have to swim the first time. after that, its just fast travel. great settlement.

I read somewhere that in an earlier design of the game spectacle island was supposed to have more content and quests related to it.

Speaking of cut content, I also heard that at one point there might have been some quests related to Valentine/Kellogg after the Dangerous Minds quest. Not sure of its true, but it seems like they queued up Valentine to talk/Act like Kellogg

Yeah, after he helped you and Dr Amari dive into a fragment of Kellog’s brain, he briefly ended up talking like Kellog, but then snapped out of it pretty quick when you ask him about it. 🤔

In the Outcasts and Remnant Mod:
you can make a deal with Kellog so he’ll help you break into the institute, capture and torture the scientist (Virgil) hiding out in the Glowing Sea, and I’m like 1) first you stole my baby and murdered my spouse and 2) I’m not into torturing good people for info you bastard!… Blam, Blam!!! 😬

Holding Out For A Hero- This is a short but fun, kind of infuriating quest perpetrated by the Outcast and Remnants mod creators. Helping Harley find a Harley Quinn outfit and bat is fairly routine, but then she has a lead on her elderly step parents up North who she wants vengence on for screwing her over, not that much different from Cait, who you find in The Combat Zone.

However in this case:
When you find them in a bunker, they seem to be suffering from dimentia, don’t recognize her, and the kicker is, Harley demands that you kill them. And if you decline, she attacks you, and you have to kill her, unless maybe if you run away, but I didn’t try that. What is the gotcha, is if you kill Harley, after being attacked by her, her step mom will start bragging about how she got the better of Harley. The first time doing this quest, I ended up killing her Mom myself!

starting to get a bit bogged down with having to replay bits due to bugs.

Already had to go back to a 3 day old save due to a glitch with spectacle island, didnt read the note before hitting a switch, which in most (but it seems not all cases), means you can never make it a settlement. id found it, went off and done most of far harbor so had to redo.

then spent at least a day running up and down side streets trying to find Harbormaster hotel as All Hallows Eve quest has a glitch where the radio station does nothing, and despite looking at so many pages on tinternet describing where it was, id basically gave up then saw a picture and went back and found it.

found vault 81, but there's a glitch that i couldnt manage to beat, so i again rewound back to before id done all hallows eve, redid that, went back to vault 81, same glitch, rewound and am staying away from vault 81 for now. its a minor quest (fertilizer woman) but i like doing everything. Dr Penske asks for some fertilizer, i go all the way home and get some, come back, austin nearly dies, sort that, and go back and Dr Penske wont talk to me. internet says you need to sort the fertilizer before you save austin, so i go back and have 5 bags of fertilizer with me when i get to the vault. dont even leave to get the cat, go to talk to her, she's gone home. sit on a bench and wait, and go back and she's stuck in the floor glitched, but will still talk to me (difficult to get the cursor on her with the table on her head) but se still wont allow me the conversation about fertilizer. so stepped away from vault 81 for a bit.

Sorry you are having issues. What version of the game are you playing? Cause you mentioned All Hallows Eve, I'm going to assume this is the Next Gen Patch. I'm playing the pre-Next Gen Patch, with about 40 mods, including substantial content mods, quite a ways in and having no issues.

As far as Spectacle Island, I can't say the issue you ran into was a glitch associated with the Next Gen Patch or not, I just know there is a note there to read, so I've not tested it in my version, by throwing the switch before reading the note.

I've only seen 1 issue running as many mods as I am and that is when the Commonwealth map is loaded, it can take almost 4 minutes. I have zero experience with the Next Gen Patch and have no clue how many mods are available through Bethesda.

Are you running mods?

Don't be irritated with this suggestion, but you might have less issues with the pre-Next Gen patch available at Gog.com. You'd be buying the game, installing it and starting over from scratch. If using mods, you'd use Vortex to install them and last I saw the game can be purchased there for $10 on sale.

im playing it on my ps5. its not a major thing, its part of playing bethesda games I guess. all 3 of those bugs are documented and not new.

im playing a vanilla game on my ps5 whilst waiting for fallout London and then ill switch to Mac whether its bootcamp on my iMac or whisky on my MacBook I havent decided yet.

for some reason on all of my playthoughs before i hadnt played nukaworld. i think the original playthrough it was before any of the dlc came out. but the other two, no idea. i know i did get to the first bit when you have to go through the assault course on arrival, but never went any further, no idea why.

I understand and agree with the criticism of it as playing it as a good guy is a very short quest compared to being evil and getting into the whole raiders slavery mood. but for me its an RPG, i play it as i feel right playing it, alway doing what i think is morally right.

So its been a quick blast. get in, kill the big guy, take over as the overwhatever. meet the 4 bosses, say hello, make small talk, then kill them. that lead to great gunfights so i enjoyed. guess there's still some side quests but i tried the one where you wear the weird glasses and find some pattern or something, and when i follow the mission markers it takes me round in circles.

thing is i know people say you can do the bad stuff then reload, but thats not me.

Yes, I role-play and I'm not about to go raid the Commonwealth, with Raiders no less. I've spent the entire game killing them and Gunners.

Instead, in Nuka World, you can join the Raiders and do all the quests up to the point where they want to start raiding the Commonwealth. It's been a while, but as I recall here is quite a bit to do until you reach that point. This is where you break from them and at that point it can be fun. The hardest part (for me) is that area with the stage and performances, it's a screen load to get in there and there will be a lot of people shooting at you. I usually start there because I can walk in peacefully and set up some mines before the carnage starts and then I retreat to a side room and shoot them as they come in after me...Yes missiles are an option, but I've been able to handle the situation without that. I wonder if you'd survive a mini-nuke? :p

This is a spoiler if anyone cares. ;)
Sidequest: Investigate Pickman Gallery
I agree, I role play usually, almost exclusively as a good person. Trying to remember playing a bad person and coming up blank, Well, a vampire does not count. And when I play a vampire, as a rule, I don't kill regular people, just bad people.

If F4, I just investigated Pickman Gallery for Hancock (mayor of Good Neighbor) and Pickman is (several more shots at covering spoilers):
a serial killer who loves to play with Raider's heads
. The scene is gruesome, unless in your game jaded self, no big deal. ;)

But anyway. when you get to the Gallery, there are a bunch of Raiders searching for Pickman. You happen to be in the business of killing Raiders so this works out, and you head down into the sewers under the Gallery looking for Pickman. Now you don't have to, go to the sewers because there is a holo-tape on a body, that you can take back to Hancock*. But since I've done this before, I don't remember what Hancock says to do, but I headed into the sewers to find Pickman. When I met him, I reasoned that this guy likes to kill Raiders, so that's good. He might even be a Dexter kind of guy. I saved the game prior to this decision and continued on.

*Note: My understanding is that you only get this quest if you hire Hancock as a companion. I did, after getting this quest, set him free. I went to the Gallery with Piper.

But as I left the property, my conscious started bothering me because Pickman is a
serial killer
who might become a threat to the general populace. So I reloaded that save,
killed him
, and left the property with a clear conscious. :D

can see the dilemma. but if its only raiders, isnt that sort of a robin hood type effort.

I really enjoyed the stage fight and indeed all of the fights in nukaworld were crazy in a good way. would have been easier if i didnt have unofficial rules that i play by. i dont use power armour at all, the only exception is when i find power armour halfway through a mission, i get in it and keep it til i finish the mission or have another reason to go back to Sanctuary where i have a big glass warehouse gallery of power armours. similarly for me, missiles and nukes are WMDs as far as im concerned, only to be used in certain rare circumstances.

I dont remember going to pickman gallery, thanks ill grab hancock and go there.

I believe Hancock mentions Pickman Gallery when you pick him as a companion, (I read that) but honestly I was not paying enough attention when it appeared as a “Misc” quest.

As far as Nuka World, yeah, that stage fight is a handful. I don’t ever wear power armor, but I am equipped with powerful weapons, the 50 cal sniper rifle, one shots most opponents, but it’s not good close up due to its scope. For close I have a semi-automatic shotgun. The modded 10m semi-automatic pistol I use can require 10 shots to drop a heavily armed opponent who is aware of me. I have stealth maxed and this helps a lot, a huge buff to stealth damage dealt with my non-auto pistol. I have used the missile launcher infrequently, I’m liking the Minutemen artillery, you have to place it in a settlement, assign a person to it, and it has to be close enough. I can summon with a smoke flair, if you can get the smoke where it is needed, is devistating. And the tactical nuke, I’d only use it as a curiosity, not liking it because it introduces more radiation into the environment.😬
