Fallout London Mod (FOLON)- Content Mod. I went to GOG today and saw a message from the development team saying they were aware of technical issues and they’re working on a patch, so I decided I’m gonna wait a bit to install FOLON.

It’s not compatible with the F4 Next Gen Patch, but there are ways around this, with instructions online. The simplist way is to buy the GOG version, not the Steam version, but even with the steam version there are workarounds for it.

These are the issues as I see them, I have a current install of F4 (GOG VERSION) with about 40 mods being managed by VORTEX. Everything is fine there, I don’t want to mess it up. Vortex is only designed to manage one instance of a game so my plan is to follow something like these instructions at Nexus although I’m not going to be using a a single install, this article suggests:

Eventually I plan on downloading a new copy of F4 from GOG, onto another drive and use a different mod manager either Nexus Mod Manager, or Mod Organizer 2 to manage this and other mods I install onto it. I’m afraid if I simply make a copy of the game folder and paste it, then remove the current mod folder, I might run into trouble, from there installing FALON. And my understanding is that the 40 mods I’m currently using some, maybe many, will not be compatible with this content mod. Thoughts on what your approach might be if you have a current running pre-Next Gen version of the game?

This mod is not Mac Friendly as far as I know, but who knows, I’ve not searched for Mac instructions online.

One thing that pisses me off in F4, is if you have the Far Harbor DLC, the Main game starts sending you up there to do radiant quests that originate in the Commonwealth proper. When I do FH, I want to do FH, not continually being sent up there to fulfill quests. For anyone who has not played, "radiant quests" are quests that have multiple locations where they can be assigned, like clear out this or that facility... 🤨

also the chances of them bugging out increases when they are in far harbor. you get a quest to clear out a location, and you kill everyone but there's still a marker and you cant clear the quest.

damn, for a second i thought that was instructions for putting it on a mac.

unfortunately not only is my imac a 2017 model, but it got knocked over last month and is sporting a large crack in the glass, which is only noticeable with bright or light backgrounds, but id love to try and play it on my macbook m2. think my 8gb might be an issue mind you, plus the game would have to go on an external drive.

enjoying it though. the thought of downgrading plus turning off all mods scared me, so i just spent €16 on a copy from GOG, also although i wasnt directly contributing to FOLON i felt i was contributing to GOG who had put the money and effort into hosting it so it was all good. and with GOG i was simple, download F4, download FOLON, hit install.

and it crashes a lot i have to admit, and its difficult so im finding im not playing it in long stretches, more play it for 30 mins, either die a few times or crash a few times and quit. but enjoying it.

I was visiting my Son and Grandkids in Wichita this last week and my 13 year old Granddaughter has been trying to push Roblox on me. I’ve looked at it and have resisted, to many grind, pointless games. Yes, I know, @Spaceboi Scaphandre there are some supposedly decent games there, ;) but none that my grandkids play.

I casually mentioned Fallout 4, and my Grandaughter became very interested in it. I looked at it on Steam, Fallout 4 GOTY Edition $20, and at GOG.com $10 on sale, ano brainer. I helped her in the beginning with teminal, hacking, and am now waiting for a report on her impression, going strong, or faded fast. :D My presumption is that there are no RPGs on Roblox at that level. 🤔
Granddaughter ended up not getting very far with it. Son does not like playing solo. Oh, well, you can’t please everyone. :) I’m guessing, that because I’m able to immerse myself in the story, and I have companions who on the most superficial level express like, even love for my character, that on my 5th playthough, it‘s a very comfortable escape, even knowing all the answers. There is so much that goes on in The Commonwealth. That said, I’ve restarted Witcher 3 to see if I can get myself immersed there.

It starts with a SOS from a caravan under attack from a band of roving robots intent on cleansing the Commonwealth of… people? Last night, I fought my way into The Mechanist’s Liar (DLC) stayed up till 1am (too late), died several times, which is unusual. Some very lethal robots here, armed with lasers, if you don’t kill them fast, your dead. FUN! 😳😁

@maflynn mentioned discovering new things during Replays. I keep being sent to Far Harbor to do Brotherhood of Steel (Radiant) missions, (previously mentioned), Cleaning Up The Common Wealth, and another to find a Flux Sensor for the BOS.

On my fifth playthough, outside the port of Far Harbor, I was greeted by a Nannybot, “Pearl” who asked me if I was that detective everyone has been talking about. Well I’m not a detective by any means, but she invites me to the Cliffside Hotel to solve a murder mystery. It turns out, that not only is the hotel built on top of a Vault, the residents “guests” are all robobrains, people who volunteered to have their brains placed in robots so they could live and survive the apocalypse. These are not like relatively sleek Assaultrons , but clunky primitive robobrain robots. One of them has been murdered and you are asked to solve the case. It turned out to be more complex than I had imagined, still fun…

The first robobrain I ran into was during The Mechanist DLC where I discovered the facility where experiments where done on people, placing their brains in robots against their will.

IMG_3311.jpeg
Robobrains have personality.

On the same trip, heading to a factory to find a flux sensor in the radio active fog, at night, we came across a large hulking thing in the road by deb, which I first thought was inanimate, a wrecked vehicle, but it was slightly moving as it breathed. I froze and observed it. Thank god I was sneaking. It was alive and horrible, a large, I estimate about 10’ tall Skulking Fog Crawler. Fortunately, from stealth it was easy to kill with a modded sniper rifle, single head shot 180 or so damage, amplified greatly by virtue of stealth.

IMG_3309.jpeg
Stock photo, my screenshot at night in the fog is dark and ominous.

Speaking of tough opponents, the Cliffside Hotel was full of tough ferals, some irradiated, if not in stealth very tough to kill. I died several times in that place with 2 allies, Pearl and Piper helping me.

Scoped weapons, like my sniper rifle are great at distance but suck in close quarters. I’ve got an experimental rifle that runs on Cells, 40 shots per minute, semi automatic about 40 damage per shot. I like it because it does have to be aimed to get a tight sprea of projectiles, and has unlimited shots, no reloading cells. I also found a decent, multi shot shotgun, not automatic, with no scope. The high end shotguns have scopes which puzzles me as they are no good in tight quarters.

Includes spoilers for Outcast and Remnant Mod

I picked Fallout 4 back up from an early 2024 play through, after being distracted by newer titles. You ever get a sense at least in your game life, of being home again? :) I’ve got Cait in tow, roaming the Commonwealth. Cait is the best companion, Piper is a close second.

Although I bitched about the character dialog in Starfield which is more or less built on the same mechanism in this game from a decade prior (at least it feels the same), here as stilted and limited as it is, it feels more natural, the voice actors are better, of course that could be me and my love of this game.

A while back, I introduced my grandkids to this game and they thought it was boring. Can you imagine? 😉 They were too busy playing Roblox which I find boring as hell. Que sera. :)

Anyway, one of the mods I have installed Outcasts and Remants is just so excellent. It’s an example of where a mod can outdo the game it was written for. It adds location and lore, turning Preston Garvey (former leader of the Minute Men) into what you might regard as a bad guy, in a past event called the Quincy Massacre, which is reinforced by one of the mod characters hating his guts and wanting to do harm to him. She lost family in that massacre.

It gives you options on how you want to deal with him, different degrees from a warning, up to and including execution. The evidence is quite damning, but I just gave him a warning as I could not bring myself to do more as he is an intecalmpart of the vanilla story. I can understand however, if you don’t like the idea of sullying his reputation from the base game which this mod does. Yet I found it to be a huge plus, adding more intrigue to the base game’s lore.

Last night as part this mod’s main quest, I investigated the Gunners Bunker at Lake Cochituate. My impression is that this mod introduced Gunners and in the multi-level bunker, I was impressed by the reports I read on the bunker’s terminal, a narrative that drew me in, was actually interesting to read, featuring an “Agent Garvey”. 😳

There is a robot in the game I’m aware of if you have the Automateon DLC (Ada) and then there is Curie, but there’s a transformation involved with her. :) You can build one from scratch?

Yes, but you need materials and you need to build a robot workstation. It also depends on your perk build.

But they all look mostly alike. ;)

Yes, it's in the constraints of the game.

As an example, when you build a structure, the game uses the defined structures in the game.

Even if you don't use robots as a companion, it's fun to experiment around building one. The robots you build can also farm and work in your supply routes.

I give my robots the mr handy thrusters with a majority of parts from an assaultron. I also arm them with the best blade weapons. When they attack, they move quickly and shred the enemy.

I have improved robots with the robot work station, as I remember, it was part of a quest in the Automatron DLC

The Far Harbor DLC provides an interesting opportunity to work with a moral dilemma. Stop reading if you have not played this, and plan on it.

There are 3 factions, Aradia a synth refuge, with a synth named DiMA in charge, Far Harbor town, where the surviving humans live, and The Nucleus, the HQ of the Children of Atom, a cult in a broken down nuclear sub that btw, has live nukes on it. The problem here is that Far Harbor is significantly radioactive. The Synths in Arcadia led by DiMa, have helped the town survive with radiation condensers that help keep the radioactivity that blows around in the wind at bay. So these 2 groups could get along. The CoA however regards the island as their's and also view radiation as good, and that Atom is their god. So they are hostile and want to meet Atom their maker. However if your an evil *******, you can scheme to get rid of everyone on the island, but I'd definitely not enjoy that route.

High Chancellor Children of Atom

The first time I played Far Harbor, I went with DiMa's plan to get rid of the Children of Atom's leader who is a dangerous zealot, and replace him with a more moderate live and let live leader.

Fallout4 DiMA.jpg

DiMA, a little worse for the wear, an early model Synth whose
been augmented, and being held together with gum and duck tape...

But this time I was thinking, well, they are dangerous, they want to meet Atom, they have threatened Far Harbor more than once, and those nukes, if they ever were remove from the sub, would be bad news. Why not take care of both of them, nukes and the cult at the same time? Well, I did this, actually talked their leader into to blowing themselves up, because I was a messenger from Atom and he bought it, and that's what their cult is actually about and looking forward to the meeting. They call it the Division (from the mortal world I think).

Ok, so there was a small mushroom cloud on the South central part of the island, and more radiation released. I was not that far away, but they must have been tactical nukes, hmm. I still felt justified, but neither DiMA nor the Far Harbor town leader, Capt Avery was happy. The Captain has her own secret, but not 100% sure she is aware of it.

Damn it. I'll reload and redo it and choose the relative sanitized outcome, by just getting rid of their leader, and let the more moderate guy replace him, and just maybe those nukes won’t fall in the wrong hands and end up vaporizing Diamond City… 😳 This hopefully steers the Cult in a more positive direction, but they still love radiation poisoning and besides that you can't say a lot of good things about their life spans. 🤔 At least the conflict will cease… for now.

Btw I have Curie in tow, the former Nanny scientist robot who had her identity transferred to a disabled synth at the Memory Den by way of Dr. Amari, with my help of course. She's digg'n all of this intrigue, and feeling a little confused about her new found emotions she's developing for me, cause I'm such a magnetic character. :)

I continue to be impressed with the Outcasts and Remnants Content Mod for Fallout 4. There's actually several mods tied into a package. One part of this is a blast, "Connecting the Commonwealth" where you help the Brotherhood Outcasts retrieve parts to set up a teleportation system similar to The Institute's. It's like a regular quest, but at each location you get swarmed by enemies, more and more at each stop you make to retrieve parts. The last one I ended up running away. The enemies were so many and powerful armor, you can't really stand your ground and live...at least I could not. I finally fled which is unusual for this game.

Oddly enough I just did a play through with FO4, and did the far harbor DLC. I've not touched that DLC in years, I didn't really care for that DLC when it came out. Not sure why, to be honest, it never really gelled with me. I did enjoy it.

Before that I tried doing fallout london and largely gave up on that Mod/DLC. The amount of work to get that functioning, by having FO4 be downgraded, and deal with the all of the issues, was frustrating, and then starting off, I just didn't enjoy it.

I’ve been thinking about Fallout London. When the big (Next Gen?) patch came out that killed all the existing mods, I purchased F4 on GOG for $10, it does not force patches on you like Steam, reestablished it and many mods, so I assume the FL mod will run, so the question becomes is it worthy? 🤔

There's a number of ways of downgrading the steam version, which is what I did. Took a bit of work, trial and error, and I finally did downgrade it. I think it took like 3 or 4 tries and I was finally able to installed fallout london AND run it. A couple of those failures looked like I was successful, to the point where the mod seemed to install, but it wouldn't run.

Anyways long story short, after playing with it for a while of playing it. the DLC (I know its a mod but its more like a DLC) just failed to grab me.

I'm very happy that I opted not to spend them money on GOG for that reason, given that I already owned it on steam

I’ve been moving to GOG when the opportunity presents itself. $10 was not too much to spend for peace of mind.
