I know how you feel. A couple of years ago I had a dying hard drive, so I ordered a new one from a local reseller and paid extra for overnight delivery. It arrived a week later

Furthermore, the company wouldn't refund the extra cost, saying that I *did* get overnight delivery - it seems that they didn't have any in stock so they ordered one in. Several days later they received it and overnighted it to me. Just great. Needless to say, I've never bought from them since.

I'm still holding out, people. I ordered mine on the 11th and it was supposed to go out today. I haven't gotten any emails and the ship date hasn't changed, so I'm hoping.

For the record I got the BTO 20'' with 2 GB RAM, 256 VRAM, Wireless KB/Mouse. Don't let me down, Apple! I just went to the store in Syracuse and played with the 20'' iMac....ahh so nice! The do need to take down the big lighted signs abou the new iMac G5s though, hehe. ;)

I know I am just being impatient. It is just that I wanted some explanation of why they claimed shippment by the 18th, and now that it has passed, they can't tell me when at all.

I too understand your frustration, in retail we call it "setting expectations". Most places I have worked for have quoted longer times for delivery than what was expected. When it shows up "early" we look like heros. If we quote short, then we are "idiots" not knowing what the heck is going on.

I ordered a new iNtelMac right after the keynote last week. Ordered a 20" with 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, 256MB Video and it said estimated shipped by date of 18 Jan.
I got off the phone with Apple today and they said that they show now delay in the process and don't know why it didn't ship on the "guaranteed" date. All they could do was refund my $33 for expedited shipping and not give me any time frame of when it will ship. I was told that it could be tomorrow...but it could be as late as the end of the month if they "lost the order" WTF? I am getting really angry at this point. I just want to know when it will ship...anyone else have any problems with this?

I ordered the exactly same configuration on Jan 12th, apple website says ship by 20th, and still waiting. My guess is the 256MB Video card causes the delay.

I just checked apple store and the estimated shipping date is still 20th, maybe it will change tomorrow :-(.

I called my local apple store last weekend to see if they have any new iMacs in stock, they told me not until Feburary.

My Apple order status now says shipped February 17th!

They pushed it back even further, damn.

Ordered January 12th.

My friend who ordered 4 hours after me is getting his on January 25th. Doesn't make sense. Exact same iMac configurations.

Call them up and tell them that your friend with same config is getting his much earlier. Tell them that if they are pushing it back that far you want some compensation or you will cancel the order. If they don't give you any extras then cancel and reorder because according to the online store if you make a fresh ordre now you'll get it much earlier than Feb 17th anyway.

Yes I will call them up first thing monday!

I really don't get the "qeue" system Apple use.

Canceling and reordering won't help me, because the danish Apple store says 4 weeks delivery on new iMac's.

Bit dissapointed with the whole Apple experience this time around.

I've been playing with the UK store. The stock model says 3 days for delivery. If I upgrade RAM, graphics memory or modem it goes to six days. However, if I change the default hard-drive to 500GB it shoots up to 3-4 weeks.

I guess Apple have ran out of 500GB drives for the iMacs. Can the people that have had dates pushed back confirm this? Did you order iMacs with bigger drives?

EDIT: USA store has the exact same behaviour with dates being 3-4 weeks as soon as you set 500GB drive.

There is no point in ordering Express Shipping on new products such as the MacBook and iMac if these items will be shipped from China. Apple always ships new products directly from their factories in China via FedEx IP Distribution.

IP Distribution is basically a pallet shipment, where your computer along with hundreds of others are shipped at the same time. Once the pallet reaches one of FedEx's international hubs (Memphis, Indianapolis, New Jersey, etc), your computer will then ship to your destination via FedEx Express (one, two or three days—depending upon your location to the nearest regional hub) despite which shipping method you paid for at the Apple Store online. IP Distribution, although a bit slower, saves Apple tons of money in shipping costs.

If you paid for one-day or two-day shipping, after you receive your computer—call and ask for a refund.

I ordered my iMac 20" on Jan. 16 with the 256MB video option and a USB modem. The iMac was shipped from China on Jan. 19 and is probably sitting in Anchorage, AK right now in some warehouse until someone decides to unwrap it. I expect tomorrow it will ship to Indianapolis, then to Memphis and will be out for delivery on Monday a full day before FedEx's estimated arrival date. :)

*SIGH* I think I have way too much experience purchasing Apple products. :)

I too have read about the 500GB disks pushing the dates back.

But me and my friend both ordered the standard 250GB disks. So this can't account for the extremely late shipping dates. Especially my Feb 17th date.

I ordered on the 17th with 1GB RAM and the extra video RAM too. It says due to ship by 25th. Hope it does.

This really puzzles me. my order was dated 6AM Jan. 12. and still not shipped although the website still says shipped by Jan 20th.

Ok, here is the latest. (I know I am a dork because I check the website like 6-8 times a day hoping, and I call Apple at least once a day for an update).
It is actually quite entertaining hearing "different" responses when you talk to the different agents.
So, this time I call and play "dumb" I said I know that the machine was originally supposed to ship by the 18th and it has now been pushed back to the 25th...what is the reason for the delay and should I expect another?
The reply...we show that it has been processed for shipping and should go out within 12-24 hours! WOW! I will actually believe this when I see it though. This is quite the contrast from 2 days ago when the guy said that it could be Jan 30th.

Odd... My roommate ordered his 20in intel iMac the day after the keynote. The video ram and system ram is all maxed out. It arrived on MLK day.

Yes, I had the same exact problem with Apple when I bought my PowerBook from them middle of last year. It didn't ship by the date they had stated online, so I argued with them over the phone a few times. They claimed they had "lost the order," as you said, and were assigning some sort of a "team" to get my order back on track. After about three or four calls and expressing my disappointment and need for this laptop to arrive on time (well, relative need ;) ) they did give me $50 for my time (shipping was free to begin with.)

After reading these posts and the understandable frustration with delays, I feel extremely lucky. I ordered my 20" Intel iMac on the 10th from the Apple Web Store and got it on Monday the 16th. I selected the standard configuration except for a wireless keyboard/mouse (I hate the one button mouse, will be replacing it).

Maybe I got the quick shipment because I'm a software developer and didn't get the Developer Transition Kit? (I didn't want to be a beta tester). Apple really wants all third-party apps to be re-compiled for Intel ASAP. I'm glad the way it worked out because in a few days I should have the universal binary working for my program (Natural Scene Designer).

I put a picture of the FedEx tracking to give US customers an idea of what to expect when it ships. Note how it left China on the 15th and arrived in Alaska on the 14th! (crossed the international date line). You will probably receive shipment on the day after it leaves Memphis, TN.

Good news for me, I checked Apple website this morning and my iMac was shipped on Jan 21st.

I woke up this morning and checked my e-mail for a tracking number and nothing. However, if I go to the Apple order status site it says that it shipped 21 Jan 06 @ 3:33! Odly though there is no estimated deliver date, all it says is "Future Delivery Requested". I don't know what that means, but I hope to see the computer Monday or Tuesday.

All of you being impatient waiting for your iMacs to ship should pipe down. You ordered build to order parts so should expect to wait.

Obviously Apple will expect most orders to be stock models so has limited resources to fulfill all these BTOs. After reading of all the BTO people waiting on their iMacs I decided to go with the stock 20" iMac. I'll just have to live without the extra VRAM, and will upgrade the RAM myself.

I ordered on Thursday 19th. 12 hours later it was shipping. Now, as far as I can tell it's in my local depot waiting to be delivered to me on Monday.

Enjoy the wait.

You shouldn't expect to wait substantially longer than the "expected shipping date" regardless of what you do. If you order a stock model and it says it'll ship in 3 days then you would be annoyed if it was double that. Similarly, if you order a CTO one and it says 6 days you have every right to be annoyed if that turns into 12.

Nobody is moaning that it takes longer to get a CTO order. They are annoyed because their expected shipping dates are being missed, and not just by a day or two but by weeks.

My shipping saga

I ordered a 20" iMac Duo w/2GB RAM and 256 MB video at 7:01 pm PST on Jan. 11th with .Mac and extended warranty (early adopter jitters). I specifically didn't get the 500 GB hard drive update because it a) was too expensive and b) pushed shipping out to 3-4 weeks! Upon processing, my estimated time to ship was 3-5 days. Woot!

On the morning of Jan. 13th I received the dreaded "order delayed" email...for the .Mac! No mention of the iMac, but had an eerie feeling. But, by 2 p.m. same day the .Mac shipped. Alas, checking my order showed that the estimated ship date for the iMac had slipped to 1/17... without any email notice from Apple. When the 17th arrived with no notice, I called Apple, and spoke to a woman who a) didn't care, and b) had no further info. Not a great restart of the Apple-Customer relationship I left in 1996.

On the 20th, I finally received email from Apple regarding my iMac, only to tell me the ship date had slipped to Jan. 24th. Oy! So I logged onto the Apple Store and configured another iMac with the same specs... and it reported shipping in, you guessed it, 3-5 days.

What gives? So I called Apple and told Nick how poorly they were doing with a) informing customers up front of the actual shipping times, and b) paving the way for a robust customer relationship. He paused, said, 'let me check', and returned by saying "Your iMac is boxed up and waiting for FedEx to pick it up. It will go out today."

Sure enough, the Apple store gives me a tracking number this morning. And, I got an email invoice from Apple.

Woot!

Hang in there fellas.
