I just installed a new RAID for my studio and my Mac Pro 2,1 Late 2007 8-core, IO fan is going ballistic! It's always above 2000rpm. SMC fancontrol won't override and neither will Fan Control even with the modded scripts to make it go under 1000rpms. Can anyone set this up for me so I can adjust the IO fan down back to normalcy...it's like a wind tunnel in here! It's the upper front fan that blows across the upper PCIe slots and just below the hard drives. Thanks.

If neither of these apps will adjust the speeds then it means the SMC is setting it which means there is nothing you can actually do!

As soon as the RAID card is in the Fan goes crazy. Pull it out it stops. Any chance of hacking or overriding the SMC? I have already reset it. I havn't found an app that can control the fan labeled "IO" in SMC. Man it's loud.

No idea to be honest, all the SMC Fan Control and Fan Control do is set the minimum speed the SMC can set it, so if something goes wrong the SMC can ramp it up faster than the app would, it's a safety feature IMO.

As for hacking it, no I don't think so!

Thanks for your replies.

Concorde, does this work on Mac Pro 2010? Basically I want something to run my fans at max speed for a limited amount of time (say 2 minutes). Would this be something your program could do?

Ridiculously late reply, but it would ramp up depending on what you set the temps to.

New version to fix a few things that annoyed me about it:

NOTE: SHOULD WORK WITH BOTH 2009 and 2010 MACHINES! No idea about previous gen.
Note 2: With Lion, the CPU heatsink fans are now controlled by the SMC abit more aggressively than in SL, 500rpm intake/exhuast used to mean 142.5% of 500rpm = 800rpm for the 'booster' fans. Now it seems the booster fan spins up a little earlier than before. No issue tho really.

NEW (Nov 2011): REMOVED - Stupid Lion ****s it up of course. :/

If anything is SERIOUSLY wrong then PM me (because I don't always check these threads) and install the old version again:

Cheers.

I went through all of this and discovered it was the ATI fan on the GFX card.

Switching PCI slots worked.

Hope this helps!
