Totally forgot about this!!! Got a basic version working and then left it!
Ok, I shall upload an installer later along with the current base code that uses the cpu heatsink temp for its fan controls.
Now im going to start work on a version (2!) that will allow you to control your fans depending on what zone it is in.
However I need some help with this, so if anyone wants to give it a go then post here and I shall add you to MSN!
Cheers
CR.
Hi
I have read with great interest this thread.
I would like to know whether there is a Mac Pro 1,1 (2006) version of Fan Control available as the MP2009 posted here does not work with 2006 model.
Many thanks
I decided the PSU/Harddisk bays weren't worth worrying about as they really don't get that hot!
Concorde,
I've been running V0.7 since yesterday and really like it. Thanks.
I have a few silly questions:
1. Does "Base Speed" control intake and exhaust fans?
2. Are all of the other fans, such as Boost A & B and PCI controlled automatically?
3. How do Upper and Lower threshold settings affect fan speeds?
4. Which fans do the threshold temperatures affect? Exhaust, Intake, and Boost A/B?
Thanks. Keep up the great work.

CR, do you think you could make it a 64 bit thingy so the system preferences don't have to restart every time I click on the prefpane ?
Sadly that *is* beyond my abilities, I googled for a while on how to convert 32 to 64 bit but unless someone can give me an idea/do it for me then not at the moment!!!
As for your PM, I shall have a look.
Cheers.
If you can get me the sensor codes for the Intake and Exhaust fans then maybe we can get somewhere.

Is the latest for the MP2009.

HI!
First, sorry for posting in this older Thread but i have a serious problem with my Fan behavior on my MacPro4,1 early 2009 since i downloaded FanControl.
I have set a minimum Fan Speed at 800rpm and the Lower Threshold at 50° and Upper at 80°.
But now even in absolute idle i get much to high fan speeds. Temperatures over the complete system are no where over 40° from what i can see from iStat readings. But now look at my alltime Fan speeds.
Code:Fan #0: Actual speed : 2081 Minimum speed: 800 Maximum speed: 4500 Safe speed : 0 Target speed : 2083 Mode : auto Fan #1: Actual speed : 1294 Minimum speed: 600 Maximum speed: 2800 Safe speed : 0 Target speed : 1296 Mode : auto Fan #2: Actual speed : 785 Minimum speed: 786 Maximum speed: 2800 Safe speed : 0 Target speed : 786 Mode : auto Fan #3: Actual speed : 784 Minimum speed: 786 Maximum speed: 2800 Safe speed : 0 Target speed : 786 Mode : auto Fan #4: Actual speed : 1121 Minimum speed: 800 Maximum speed: 4000 Safe speed : 0 Target speed : 1122 Mode : auto ------------- F0Ac [fpe2] 2084 (bytes 20 91) F0ID [{fds] (bytes 01 01 04 00 50 43 49 20 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00) F0Mn [fpe2] 800 (bytes 0c 80) F0Mt [ui16] 96 (bytes 09 60) F0Mx [fpe2] 4500 (bytes 46 50) F0Tg [fpe2] 2084 (bytes 20 90) F1Ac [fpe2] 1295 (bytes 14 3c) F1ID [{fds] (bytes 01 01 10 00 50 53 20 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00) F1Mn [fpe2] 600 (bytes 09 60) F1Mt [ui16] 240 (bytes 0a f0) F1Mx [fpe2] 2800 (bytes 2b c0) F1Tg [fpe2] 1296 (bytes 14 40) F2Ac [fpe2] 785 (bytes 0c 47) F2ID [{fds] (bytes 01 02 0a 00 45 58 48 41 55 53 54 20 00 00 00 00) F2Mn [fpe2] 786 (bytes 0c 48) F2Mt [ui16] 232 (bytes 03 e8) F2Mx [fpe2] 2800 (bytes 2b c0) F2Tg [fpe2] 786 (bytes 0c 48) F3Ac [fpe2] 784 (bytes 0c 43) F3ID [{fds] (bytes 01 02 01 00 49 4e 54 41 4b 45 20 00 00 00 00 00) F3Mn [fpe2] 786 (bytes 0c 48) F3Mt [ui16] 0 (bytes 00 00) F3Mx [fpe2] 2800 (bytes 2b c0) F3Tg [fpe2] 786 (bytes 0c 48) F4Ac [fpe2] 1121 (bytes 11 84) F4ID [{fds] (bytes 01 02 0a 00 42 4f 4f 53 54 41 20 00 00 00 00 00) F4Mn [fpe2] 800 (bytes 0c 80) F4Mt [ui16] 220 (bytes 05 dc) F4Mx [fpe2] 4000 (bytes 3e 80) F4Tg [fpe2] 1122 (bytes 11 88) F5Ac [fpe2] 0 (bytes 00 00) F5ID [{fds] (bytes 01 02 01 00 42 4f 4f 53 54 42 20 00 00 00 00 00) F5Mn [fpe2] 800 (bytes 0c 80) F5Mt [ui16] 0 (bytes 00 00) F5Mx [fpe2] 5200 (bytes 51 40) F5Tg [fpe2] 800 (bytes 0c 80)
Like i said Temperatures are never over 40° C but i cant figure out how the SMC calculates such unnecessary Target Speeds. Especialy 2000rpm for the PCI fan is horrible. That thing is damn loud now.
I hope someone can help me. Fans only speed up if OSX is booting. so it seems a software issue.
Thanks,
- Elphiel
Snip
a much better program.. I don't like fan control as its dull and doesn't really provide much and also its extremely inferior to istat pro or istat nano.
So i hope this helps people who ever come across the same problem like me. Now i can continue to search a way to limit the PCIe fans rpm under windows7.
Thanks for your help!
I will also try to reinstall your APP. Just one question for my understanding. If i set the Speed to 800 and minimum Temp Threshold to 50°C, all Fans should keep around 800rpm if every temp sensor is reporting temperatures below 50°C (like it is in my System, never even get over 40°C) right?
Wish you can also make one for Mac Pro 1.1
I am always a fan of Fan Control. Don't like SMC fan control at all consider it cannot modify the behavior at different temperature and has an ugly icon on my menu bar...
