You should not see any improvement in render times in Maya due to video card, unless you are using some sort of specific GPU feature like Iray or maybe the latest versions of V-Ray.

You should see better viewport performance, though.

Thanks for the answer.

If i put back my old 8800GT along the new 570, does this will improve the render time or it is just based on the CPU?

It's solely Cpu based. But as s/he wrote: the viewport render is done (partially?) by the 570, so there you def. should see an improvement.

MacVidCards closing for a week

Hey everyone, have a yearly trip to take.

So we will be closing for a week. The other guy in the office won't be shipping stuff, he wants to be left alone to do some soldering/tinkering. (and playing with his dog and playing video games, truth to be told)

Good news is everything is on sale for next 24 hours before we close up. Free basic shipping in US as well.

I will still be dropping in to answer questions, etc but it will be less than usual.

That's odd, I don't see any cards for sale on that website you suggested.

Has anyone done this upgrade, by the way?

Do you know, if the limit is set to exactly 2048MB?

Ie. could a eVGA GeForce GTX 680 Superclocked (2048 MB) be hit by the same artificial limit?

This has been answered many many many many times in this thread. But since your time is more valuable than mine, here's the gist of it:

A 580 will require an extra PSU. It will work in OS X, but you'll miss the boot screen. Unless you buy it from MacVidCards, then it'll work like a "native" Apple card. Except you still need an extra PSU, and that seems to be some hassle.

I have an issue with my new GTX 570: I can't get the second monitor to run.

I have tried DVI & HDMI with no luck. My primary monitor is connected with DVI and I'm running 10.8.1 with CUDA drivers 5.0.24 (didn't worked with 5.0.17 neither)

Monitors: HP w2448hc 24"

Any suggestions?

So help out a retard with a flue :

Do the Gigabyte GV-N570OC-13I gfx570 card work in macpro 1.1, 10.7.4 & xp ?

I realize that I wont have the boot screen, but apparently my old gt7300 card as a second card should do the trick, or did the second nVida card still cause problems?

AND : Do the gtx570 nowadays need anything else than the new nVida drivers from their website? Few months ago you needed some ati-ini-kextator or something? Tried to read all the possible info from the threads but this still escaped me...

Could get the card for 300€ but the apples 5870 would be tempting, even if it is 440€ or so. Got the apples 4870 working within 60 seconds so a bit leary of unecessary fiddling as the card is coming for my work computer.

Thanks in advance!

If you are using any EFI GTX4xx or GTX5xx cards, feel free to update !!!

http://*****nvidia.com/object/macosx-304.00.00f20-driver.html

Updated and now Blackmagic Resolve won't boot with a single GTX 570 card anymore. Will try get a non 6-pin card for GUI to test if it is now forcing a GUI+GPU card solution. Do you think that an off the shelf GT 220 or 240 might work ? I can't really justify the exorbitant local prices for second hand Apple GT120...

Updated and whilst OpenCL works (ootb), in FCPX the video suffers image corruption in highlights an strange colour temperature shifts.

Since my primary reason for buying this card was FCPX, and Resolve, it's not a useable driver release to me currently. Is there any way to downgrade back to the older drivers?

LuxMark tells me that there is no OpenCL drive selected or available? Why?
I have a GTX570 2.5GB from MVC, running 10.8.1. CUDA and newest driver installed.

Have you patched the OpenCL framework to allow cards with more than 2GB of memory to work? I believe that is still required, even with the latest drivers.

Great. I must have done something very wrong. My machine is booting, but it stays at the grey apple logo with the spinning wheel. I don't get into the login screen.
Repair permissions, safe boot and PRAM reset didn't help - I have to reinstall ML.

I downloaded HexEdit to edit the OpenCL file, then I used Find & Replace to patch the file. I guess I made a mistake there, although I copy pasted from netkas.org.

What is the advantage of OpenCl anyway? Until now, the system ran very fine without the patch.

after editing a driver, you must restore it's permissions.

I posted a pre-patched one here:

I did that. Still doesen't work.
No it's running fine again, fresh install of ML.

I think since I got everything working fine without OpenCL, I don't care about it. What is it good for anyway? Do I feel a difference in e.g. Photoshop or so?

With the pre-patched thing I just downloaded from your link, do I still have to do this OpenCL patch?

Cindori is merely web hosting Netkas' work.

So if he did it right and you install it right, it should enable OpenCl on cards with more than 2 GB.

You need to install it into the right place, not just the Extensions folder.
