Wow! Twenty-one month necropost!

My font preferences have become rather specialist since I managed to get enough work to become a full-time comic book letterer!

Cheers!

Super necro!

Arial (usually Narrow) deserves respect even though there's a lot of idiots that abuse it.
Helvetica
Akzidenz-Grotesk certainly.
Futura
Univers
Museo Sans
MGOpen Moderna is incredible but spaced tightly for a gothic font.

"But whatta 'bout serif faces?"

Serifs are often schlocky and unmemorable. Lemme go through Font Book and find a serif that doesn't suck.
Georgia
Goudy Bookletter 1911
OFL Sorts Mill Goudy
The non-schlocky Bodoni faces.
Museo Slab and regular Museo

and anything else Jos has made.

Favorite typefaces:
Optima Bold Italic 18 pt
Helvetica Neue Ultralight Italic 16 pt
Delicious Heavy, any pt

Favorite fonts:
MuseoSans
Museo
Museo Slab
Archer
Gotham (overuse notwithstanding)
Bree
Ronnia
Skolar
Meta
AvantGarde Gothic Pro with the original ligatures

Helvetica Neue FTW

I'm really a Helvetica Neue person with the tracking decreased quite noticeably.

Any minimalist sans-serif font is OK with me, but other than Helvetica Neue I have no literal favourite font, as some could be horrible for one project, and others could be more than ideal for another.
:)

Your list of fonts is actually a list of faces, and your list of favorite typefaces is a list of fonts.

Great choices, though.

Serif: Day Roman, Riven, Garamond Pro

Sans-serif: Helvetica Neue (overused, I know, but so good when used appropriately) & Univers.

To be honest, I don't use one font more than another because it's a favourite - I decide each project as it comes and use what suits it best. :)

A font is the packaged collection of glyphs. A typeface is the design of the constituent elements within a font. Therefore, I like the design of Helvetica Neue Ultralight Italic, but I don't like the rest of the font that is Helvetica Neue. A good analogy is that a typeface is like a song, while a font is like an album/CD. You buy a CD which contains lots of different songs. You buy a font which contains lots of different typeface/glyph designs. I stand by my definitions.

I've always gone by the reverse of your analogy, but that's a whole other thread.

I never ever use names of american cities as a font.

Also am I the only one who hates Papyrus more than anything in the world. Oh I hate it soo much!!!

utopia, century gothic.

Great Response! I've been designing since 1989 and was surprised at how many people listed these fonts! I had this one creative director who absolutely banned any fonts that were named after cities...period. Also the use of most free fonts...most pre-press depts. prefer that you stay within the Adobe library...which with over 2,000 fonts plenty to choose from!

Univers is an excellent font...especially if you have the sub-fonts as well.

It's so hard to pick but here are a few of my favorites.

Myriad Pro
Bauhaus
Trajan Pro (Yeah, I know it's popular with the movies, over use a side I love it)
Adobe Garamond Pro

I like Baruta, it's the font I use for my "companies" logo.

And for posterity, here's my little logo icon guy, I named him Stachio.
