the two that i own: iphone 6 plus and nexus 6. i will say, though, i probably would have preferred the moto x (2014) over the nexus if it were only carrier agnostic. i like my nexus in that i can move it from verizon to t-mobile if i choose.

Well, my first smartphone was a Samsung Blackjack, awesome device with horrible battery life. It was so bad that in response to a lawsuite, at&t sent me a free extended battery.

As for my favorites? The iPhone 3G, it was the first phone I keep for a full 2 years as my lone smartphone (at the time my second phone was a dumbphone).

On my top 5 list? The iPhone 4, Nokia e71x, HTC One x, Palm Pre Plus, and Motorola Atrix.

Honorable mention: my current 3 (iPhone 6 Plus, HTC One M8, and Note 4) really like all three of these handsets, but who knows how I'll remember them in a couple of years.

My favorite was probably my iPhone 3G. Was reliable, took fine pictures, and was fast enough for me until the 4.0 updates came and killed it off. I'll never understand how that update turned my smooth phone into a hog that went from apps loading in few seconds to half a minute or longer.

Not had a phone since that has been as reliable.

Check out my previous post from August 2010. From my first phone to iPhone 4...

My Cell Phone History

audiovox9155big2.jpg

1. Audiovox 9155GPX, Verizon (December 1999 - September 2000)
My first cell phone that I got on Christmas of 1999. I was already 19 when I got my first phone which is OLD for today's standards, but remember I came from the pager era. It was for Verizon. Decent phone with solid reception. Lost it in a rave club. Slipped out of my pocket while on XTC. A kid picked it up and used my minutes. Luckily, I was insured and would get a replacement phone.

qualcommqcp860.jpg

2. Qualcomm QCP-1960, Verizon (September 2000 - December 2001)
The replacement phone from Verizon. I hardly used it. I actually thought I lost it, but it was hidden in m backpack for months. I liked that it was thin, but I never cared for it. It was during this time when I didn't use or have a cell phone at all.

nokia3360.jpg

3. Nokia 3360, Cingular (December 2001 - September 2003)

My first GSM phone. This phone was ROCK SOLID. Dropped it so many times and it still chugged along. I got this for my 21st birthday as a free phone for signing up to Cingular. Served me well. Had a wallpaper of boobs and Linkin Park's "One Step Closer" as my ringtone. This was the phone that got me into text messaging with the "envelope with wings" flying away animation and that popular Snake game!

nokia3595.jpg

4. Nokia 3595, Cingular (September 2003 - January 2004)

My first phone with a color screen. I got it for free when I sent my old 3360 back to Cingular. I dropped this several times and it sucked. Cheap quality where the rubber padding would peel off. Hated the keypad. Eventually, it got submerged into liquid and stopped working. Had to buy another phone without contract. My dad did fix it, but I just gave it away to my aunt who needed a phone because she lost her's. Didn't care too much with this phone. My trusty 3360 was better and regret sending it back.

t616.jpg

5. Sony Ericsson T616, Cingular (January 2004 - May 2004)
My first cameraphone. This was a sexy phone when I first saw it. My mother actually got it a month prior when her contract was up. As for my experience with it, I didn't really have time to enjoy it because I would eventually get a Sanyo and Motorola in the upcoming months. The T616 was quickly demoted as a third wheel and GSM back-up phone once I got my V600. The reception sounded softer compared to my Nokias. This phone would introduce me to Bluetooth and gave me a taste of being a phone junkie.

sanyo5500.jpg

6. Sanyo SCP-5500/VM4500, Sprint (February 2004 - February 2006)
Like mentioned in the first page, this was my favorite dumb phone of all-time. This CES Award-winning phone was the best phone on Sprint at the time of purchase. Sanyo > Samsung back in those Sprint days. It was a $400 phone, but my GF at the time and I got it for $279 with contract. Had the cool LED rainbow flash when I talked on the phone. Had Natasha Yi wallpaper and all these cool ringstones for it. The UI was cleaner than my V600. Had the external screen that showed the person's pic when they called. Had 15fps at 15 seconds max. Epic! lol Good times! This phone and my T616 I still have in my drawer somewhere. I became a full-blown cell phone enthusiast after this one.

v600.jpg

7. Motorola V600, Cingular (May 2004 - April 2007)

I got this phone for the no contract price of $399 after I won $400+ playing nickel slots. My third phone in four months to fulfill that phone addiction. This is probably the sexiest flip phone I ever owned, but it had a design flaw where the bezel would scratch up every time you flip it open. I had the rubber strip and it still didn't help out. I anticipated for this phone for months. Unfortunately, it wasn't my favorite. Just a sexy phone with mediocre features. Didn't even have video recording. I eventually lost in an airplane. Must have slipped out of my pocket after my trip from NYC. that's why I carry a holster case for my phones now.

razr.jpg

8. Motorola RAZR V3, Cingular/AT&T (February 2006 - January 2008)

Ah, yes. The infamous RAZR phone. To tell you the truth, I wasn't the biggest fan of this phone. More like my V600, but in a thinner casing. The OS was buggy. I owned two of these. The first one I thought I lost. But after two years, it was found in the home theater of my parent's house. I gave that to my GF who became an ex and never gave it back. My second RAZR was given from my mom. I gave that one eventually to my uncle. This phone held me back another two years when I could have got better versions of it like the V3i with a music player. Thin phone, but BORING compared to my Sanyo phone.

nokia-n82-05-1.jpg

9. Nokia N82, T-Mobile prepaid/AT&T (January 2008 - June 2010)

My first smartphone. This was the COMPLETE phone for a non-touchscreen when it came to features. Bought it unlocked. Won multiple awards for photography among cameraphones. I sold it a month ago on Craigslist and I'm already starting to miss it so much. Basically, the candybar cousin of the N95 with Xenon. Took wonderful pictures. A great phone to have in bars. This was what the SE K850 should have been. WiFi and a stronger Xenon flash. Even had the same Crash racing game I downloaded for FREE that iTunes sold for $5. So many cool wallpapers and I could turn any mp3 into a ringtone. I believe this is my second favorite phone of all-time just nosing out the original iPhone. I have a soft spot for this one because it worked better as a phone and I bought it online. The iPhone 2G was already used up and was given to me as a hand me down. When I sold my N82, the buyer was such a nice guy and mentioned how great the condition was. Always in a holster and no scratches. Only negative was the battery was getting far worse after 24 months and the software updates stopped coming after a year. But overall, long live the N82 and I hope the Nokia N8 carries on its legacy in cameraphone photography...

apple_iphone_00-1.jpg

10. Apple iPhone, AT&T (November 2008 - June 2010)

The most revolutionary phone I have ever owned. The game changer. Still, this was still Episode 1. Still rough around the edges like the Batmobile in Batman Begins. When I got it, it gave me constant crashes. But I still have to say this was the most durable of all the iPhones. Had mines jailbroken and all. I miss some of the things on it including my MxTube videos that no longer exist on YouTube. I probably could have enjoyed it more had I got a new one and never got an iPod touch to spoil me from the JB goodness. But it was no doubt one of the biggest leaps in cell phone software we have ever seen and deserves its place among my Top 3 fav phones ever.

iphone-4-425x480-1.jpg

11. Apple iPhone 4, AT&T (June 2010 - Present)
Take the best features of the Nokia N95 and marry it with the iPhone aesthetics and software, and we have close to cell phone perfection for 2010. This is what the iPhone should have been a few years ago. It carries my lucky number of "4" and the first phone I bought on launch day. My experiences with it have been top notch from the day I got it until right now. Easily has become my favorite phone of all-time. The battery will die out as years go by and it will eventually get dead pixels like what happened to my 5-year old PSP, but this one is still a keeper even years after I plan to retire it as a main phone by 2012.

Looking back, each of them got bumped off my Top 5 by newer devices except the iPhone 4. Yet, if you ask me to use an iPhone 4 right now, I would probably laugh. Give me iPhone 4s or 5s instead! Why go back to the last single core iPhone which lagged by iOS7, weak GPU that stuttered badly playing Subway Surfers, and photos that were yellowish or had an ugly lens flare? That post was written only two months owning an iPhone 4.

For its time a classic and first major redesign for iPhone that is still emulated today by many others. But there aren't many timeless phones out there. And I actually retired the iPhone 4 in Nov 2011 and sold it in Aug 2013. Not retire it in 2012 like I previously mentioned. My vision was still short-sighted during those times after reflecting what 2013 & 2014 had brought out. Maybe by 2020, I can look back at my Xiaomi and regard it higher than my iPhone 4 five years later. It is nice seeing what I wrote and how I was feeling nearly five years ago. So much has changed since.

Favorite phone ever is usual the one I use now. For other entertainment, the past is always better. I am very "old school" and "retro" in other interests like loving 80's music or watching silent movies, I Love Lucy, Gilligan's Island, and Three's Company. Or play old 8-bit games like Mike Tyson's PunchOut!! instead of the endless first person shooters. My fav video games are Final Fantasy VII (1997) and Shenmue II (2002). Old school by today's standards. I'm 34 with a greying gotee and hair. Easy to look back and reminisce. In phones, harder for me to go back and use them going forward...

I love my Samsung Galaxy S5 but hope to get a Nexus 6 soon.

I still have my iPhone 6 which is not being used at the moment. Also using a Lumia 635 which surprisingly is awesome.

Firstly,

Iphone4 It was my first smartphone that worked flawlessly and it is still being used by family members 4-5 years later.

Now, it's my Note 4. If it outlasts minimum of 2 years flawlessly as well, it will be the best that I will have owned.

Nokia 7650. Got it in third year at uni. Felt like the coolest kid in the world - one of the first ever camera phones. Anyone worried about phablet bulge from a Nexus 6 should try squeezing one of these into their pocket.

Probably the iPhone 3G. At the time, it was the only smartphone that was really doing things right - actually, the iPhone 2G was but the addition of 3G in the iPhone 3G made it speak to me.

I really liked how it looked. Apple innovated back then.

Mine is my Samsung S5 mini, actually my first smartphone ever. I had a Nokia before that that looked like a caculator. Battery lasted over a week and would probably survive a nuclear blast ... but I wouldn't go back. The iPhone was out of my budget although I have a MacBook.

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
IPhone 4 without a doubt, the camera could have been better, but it had amazing build quality, the most scratch resistant screen of any device I've owned, it oozed solid quality with the stainless steel side frame and glass back. It also worked perfectly with the then very nice smooth iOS 6 and it was really compact and small.

All the iPhone 4 needed was that sapphire camera cover, I'm not sure how much of an improvement the 4S camera was.

Yeah, have fond memory's of my iPhone 4. It's also why I'll most likely end up with an iPhone 6S because I see that same quality of design in the phone, I would like a smaller phone but I didn't like my iPhone 5 design. Just wish Apple made the low owned one 32gb.. Sigh.

My favorite was my iPhone 4. No iPhone I've had since was as wonderful in the hand, and I loved the glass back.

Now I have the Galaxy S6 Edge, which looks likely to dethrone that phone. Guess what? It also has a glass back... hmm :)

My Xiaomi Mi 3 is still my favorite until my next flagship. I went back to MIUI with the recent update to 6.4.2.0 and been getting the same battery life again when I first got it with far better standby time than on the custom stock ROM. It doesn't drop 1-2% anymore overnight on airplane mode or after a few hours. Stock Android can be guilty of poor standby while MIUI has very little wakelocks with an autostart feature in the Security app to prevent apps from waking again. Battery does drop a little faster below 40%. I had to turn off glove mode and prevent pocket dials too because I would get random phantom ghost touches that would go haywire. MIUI 6 has some quirks and kinda a ripoff of iOS7, but I now prefer it over v5 the same way I like the look of the current iOS7/8 over anything iOS6 and before. Modernized feel.

But a phone that is sorta rising in my Top 10 is actually the Nokia Lumia 635. I don't use it religiously like my daily driver but it seems like the perfect backup device. It is CHEAP, has both removable battery and sd slot, good external speaker, and excellent battery life. I charge it every few days sometimes. Two flagships is nice and all but overkill. An inexpensive smartphone with excellent battery life fits the backup profile better while two flagships can feel redundant. The Nokia has its share of flaws but works well complementing the Xiaomi's flaws like micro-sd slot, removable battery, and louder sound. It might be a Top 7-8 fav. I might purchase another one in the future...

I have an iPhone 5 that I am trying to rid off but I would say it is probably only below the 5s because the rear cam is slightly worse and the front cam is pretty terrible. I also miss the Touch ID look. For ALL-AROUND HARDWARE, I believe iPhone is arguably one of the best. I love its designs (not always), good displays, nice camera, and better standby time (screen off time) than Android. But iOS is my LEAST favorite. I prefer Android and Windows (for mobile and PC) together than the entire iOS ecosystem. I love everything about iPhone except its crippled software, iTunes reliance, and its snobbish attitude towards sharing with other OSes via something as simple as Bluetooth transfer. But I can understand their popularity because Apple excels in alot of areas where others don't.

But as of today, not many phones interest me. After watching Ultron yesterday, I think there will be a decline in comic book movies just like in smartphones eventually. Alot of it will start feeling redundant. I thought I would love console video games forever until I pretty much retired from them after 2007. After 20 years, I got sick of it. Fun doesn't last forever. I will too with all smartphones and their incremental upgrades. Just use the one you need most and be content with it for years or until it breaks..

The LG G3 Beat (gold) version might supplant my Xiaomi Mi 3 as my favorite phone ever. I only got it two days ago but it seems to do everything right and cost only $180 for me.

Nicer display than my Mi3
Battery life is excellent (8-9 hr SOT)
Camera is very good
Design is fantastic esp in gold
Bur the real kicker is REMOVABLE battery and micro-sd slot for LONGER TERM purposes.

I simply got tired of transferring video files to my computer with the Xiaomi only to delete them after. The 16 GB with 12 GB available was short-sighted decision by me.

I became an instant LG fan after the G3 Beat. And I prefer MATTE plastic and the gold variant looks just as good as the gold HTC One variant. I might actually sell off the Mi 3 but love it too much for the battery life and SPEED for gaming. But the LG G3 Beat might be the beat all-around smartphone for under $200. Better than Moto G by far and takes better photos than the Moto X. I never thought a lesser phone can surpass a flagship but it did. Snapdragon 400 with 2540 mAh battery is fine with me since I am not heavy into gaming.

I was a Nokia man for years but the thing that ruined the N Series phones was the build quality, they were like something out of a Christmas cracker. I mean, a wobbly sliding mechanism made of plastic which relied on friction to open and close?? Terrible! Nokia build quality is what sent me to Apple...and my favourite phone ever is the iPhone 4. Great looks, grest build (never bettered) and - at the time - great performamce.

My gold LG G3 Beat is my third smartphone I bought this year and the third to also have Snapdragon 400 following the Nokia Lumia 635 and Sharp Aquos Crystal which I returned two weeks later. The Lumia 635 actually got pick pocketed from us last week. I let my gf keep it and it got stolen right out of her bag while she wasn't looking while we were on the escalator going up at a crowded mall. I miss that Nokia because it had AMAZING battery life for a smaller, $50 budget phone so I decided to go LG to replace it. I have bad luck with Windows Phone. It is 2 for 2 I got WP stolen from me.

But this LG G3 Beat seems AWESOME except for graphic-intensive gaming and its 1 GB of RAM. I always loved the G3 design from last year. But I am NOT into 2K display where the battery will suffer from it. The G4 didn't seem to rectify that issue. The G3 Beat (aka S or Vigor) is the G3 mini with weaker specs of bigger brother but the compromises don't seem as big esp if 2K goes HD and battery is 2540 mAh which is already HTC One M8-level which has to power FHD. I was actually leaning towards the Asus Zenfone 2 or Huawei Honor 4X, but after seeing that 20 min Mobile Review video, I knew I wanted it. LG is still a more reputable brand than Asus and Huawei. I wanted it white at first, but again after the video review, I had to get it in gold and it might be one of the best-looking phones I ever had only below the HTC One M7 and surpassing my Xiaomi Mi 3.

I now believe a DOWNGRADE in specs can actually be an UPGRADE to someone's experience. All phones I ever had whether budget, midrange, and flagship LAGS or HICCUPS eventually after several software updates. Or sometimes the screen response just gets worse. I was completely WRONG that another flagship can be my next favorite. Any smartphone at any specs can be someone's favorite if the experience is great and they are dependable on using them.

My favorite OEM's (includes Google)

1. Google (USA)

LG was barely cracking Top 15, but it skyrocketed to #5 thanks to the Beat being my first LG phone ever. I tossed out the two Taiwanese companies in HTC and ASUS out of my Top 10. With HTC, they make some of the most beautiful designs and great displays and sound but they usually lag behind in camera and battery life department which are huge factors in smartphones. With ASUS, it is mainly aping LG's style with their Zenfone 2 and using Intel which doesn't seem as efficient as Qualcomm's during standby. I still enjoy my ASUS tablet but the standby battery drain is a downer. Nokia is also rising back for me. Once I return to the US next year, I may end up buying TWO Lumia 635's. Nokia makes excellent and durable budget devices. Samsung also moved up by reinventing themselves in design but I still don't like the path they are heading to with flagship having style over substance. I don't prefer the Apple way of no sd slot and removal battery. Great thing LG didn't follow...

1. iPhone 4...,easily the most desirable phone in its generation.
2 Nokia 8810, 8850, 8890 series. Before smartphones became the norm these were the phones to own.
3. iPhone 6+

I have also owned all Samsung Note phones but purely for the screen size and OS. As physical devices however they all were merely average build wise. Also owned all the Sony Z phones and felt they were the only true android offering equivalent to the iphone. Am amazed why they haven't sold better.

Currently, my galaxy s6. Never knew life could be this good with a smart phone. It's a joy to use, a looker, and does so much more than any smart phone I've ever owned previously.

Blackberry Classic.

Forgot how useful a physical keyboard is and
Blackberry OS is just fluid and a joy to use. Really
Hoping Blackberry stays in the game. Would've
Definitely considered a Passport but they're not
On Verizon..
