FCPX performance on M1 chip

This is from a photographer in Australia. He got the device today and posted this on Weibo in Chinese. I guess I’ll translate a bit.

Exporting H.264 Sony 10 bit 422 footage with just one rec709 lut takes:

- 11 minutes and 30 seconds on his iMac Pro with Vega 56 and 128gigs of ram.
- 10 minutes and 20 seconds on thenew MacBook Pro with 8gigs of ram took. Wow.

Game over Intel....game over...at least for those that prefer to use Apple's own software. Now, if the laptop does promise the battery life it claims it has? I think this will accelerate the switch to FCPX those who use Adobe products for videography to Apple's own stack....it's just such a better deal!

Final Cut, sure, Photoshop, Lightroom, why not? Geekbench and Cinebench, ok, looking fine BUT...

When will we get some REAL WORLD testing?


(In case you’re wondering, I reserve the right to modify “REAL WORLD” to mean “anything that hasn’t been confirmed tested”)

Honestly, as a content creator myself, all I care about is how final cut runs lol.
But I’d definitely be interested to see how other apps perform. (Meanwhile, my programming skills doesn’t require anything remotely that powerful.)

It’ll be interesting to see the wide ranging scenarios where the M1 chip performs better, to be sure!

Gu posted one more weibo, and I'm blown away. He said he's gonna work on a review video now.
He edited the canon r6 H265 video on battery and it came up with 85% left, his own 16 inch macbook pro would have been left with 50-60% on a good day. And the new M1 chip Macbook Pro was dead silent. (I'm not gonna translate his metaphor tho...)
BUT there has been some compatibility or optimization issues. During his workflow, the computer was not able to play sounds, and had a forced quit. Airdrop doesnt seem to work.
Editing wise, when he had a extended timeline, he definately feel a bit stuttering happening. But once again, it is the 13 inch base model.
