It’s looking like my iUP 13PM trade in has either been lost or stolen by FedEx. It shows I dropped it off a week ago and it shipped out of my local hub but nothing since then. Has anyone had this happen and what did you do to remedy it?

Surely Apple has insurance on the shipping and i won’t be liable. I’ve done this ever since the program launched and never had a problem until this year.

There have been threads about this in previous years. I could be wrong, but I don't remember reading one that didn't work out in the end.

This happened to us before. And it was stressful. As long as you have the FedEx scan from turning the package in, they will eventually credit you.

The phone is unlocked and completely unassociated with an Apple ID. Ripe for theft. I suppose they can blacklist the serial number.

That’s encouraging to hear. Yes I have the receipt and there are scans in the fedex system showing I dropped it off. I dropped off 2 phones and now both are missing.

I’m in Alabama and we’ve had awful problems with FedEx. Back in December there were multiple FedEx drivers just throwing packages off the trucks in the woods because they didn’t want to deliver them. They ended up finding several hundred packages randomly thrown in the woods.

So glad in Miami I have 4 Apple stores I can walk in and trade in my IUP previous device. Went this past Sunday. Took me 5 minutes in store. Within seconds received email that that loan had been closed. I would hate to ship and be at carriers mercy.

When I dropped off my trade in at Fedex the associate actually rolled their eyes when I asked them for a receipt. They just wanted me to leave the package on the counter. There was a woman ahead of me who also had an iPhone to drop off and wanted a receipt.

These boxes are fairly distinctive and I'm guessing some unscrupulous workers get people to just leave their iPhones at the counter, never scan them in, and are then free to sell them fully unlocked.

This happened to me last year. It took a couple calls, but Apple eventually made good on it and marked it as returned/closed out the loan because I had the receipt. I decided to drop my trade ins off in store going forward because of it though.

I take photos and videos of the phone, box, and receipts when dealing with returning it. Good luck!

I did the same. I took pics of the phone, the box in the fedex building with the counter and logo, the label, and got a receipt...Still lost. I'd bet money that a worker stole both my return and my wife's. They both have the exact same scans, and are both "lost".

Do you have to pick up your new phone at the store, or can you have it delivered and then drop off the old phone at an Apple store? I have done in-store trade ins when I pick up my phone, but never considered it an option when I have a phone delivered.

FedEx in the USA is the only is the only delivery service I’ve had problems with in the USA.

Really? I've had about an equal amount of problems with FedEx, UPS, and USPS. Delivery to wrong address, failure to follow delivery instructions, lost shipments, failure to leave door tags, etc. USPS even balanced a package on top of my mailbox because they were too lazy to leave it at the door, etc. Thankfully, though, these issues are the minority of the time, but none of the major shippers are immune from bad personnel or logistics from time to time.

Same, my iPhone 8 Plus trade-in in 2020 went through UPS. It hit the first sorting hub and then dropped off the grid forever. Apple finally requested an investigation and closed out the trade with no action needed on my part, took about 2 months though.

Oh yeah, that's not going to prevent that but I think you're covered by doing all that. Now if you had just dropped it off a Fedex drop box I would feel differently.

I wanted to do that. I called Apple and they said you had to ship it.

This is why when doing Apple iUp, I would rather do an in-store pick up, this way I am able to turn in my previous model back to Apple on the spot. This year I did a restart on iUP as Covid with the 12 messed it up for me as the cycle was short, so I didn't do iup on 12 or 13. So this time I choose home delivery.

But in general. Fedex does suck and I really wish Apple haven't used it for their returns as well.
