Well, this is some $h!t, after I commented on this thread early on. Ugh.

My trade in has shown as delivered for two weeks, but still showed as “processing.” When I chatted with Apple just now, they said the box was empty and they had already opened an investigation. I looked at my FedEx receipt, which didn’t have the weight, but it does have everything else. Now I’m just waiting.

Well if you dropped it off at fedex, that leaves it in their hands and it's their responsibility after that.

I dropped my return 12pro max at UPS yesterday. I was quickly told that I was to not lose the receipt if this was a device return. I wasn’t even shocked that she knew exactly what it was.

I never return a device without taking photos of the device condition, the packing up of the device and the shipping label. Plus getting receipt for item and weight.

To many scams going on these days so I do things to protect myself. When I get the response from the shipper I received, it automatically puts up red flags for me.

Protect yourself. It’s all I can offer up.

Who did you ask to talk to? I tried calling couple of weeks ago and was bounced between few reps for 45 somites (Citizen One _> Apple -> Citizen One -> Apple) before I gave up and hung up. No one knew what to do.

So today I received an email:

"Because your iPhone didn't arrive at Apple within the required time frame, we are unable to complete the trade-in process. The associated loan on this iPhone will resume, in addition to the loan on your new iPhone. If you've already shipped the iPhone, we'll send it back to you when it arrives at Apple."

So after more than a month in "We received your iPhone and we are inspecting it" they tell me they did not receive it. I chatted with Customer Service and gave them the tracking number. They said they are sending a request for review and will update me in 24 to 48 hours.

I got the same e-mail yesterday, and chatted with support again. Mine was stolen from the package en route, and they only told me the box was empty after I initiated contact. I was told they opened an investigation at that time, and then I didn’t hear from them again.

They opened a second “investigation,” and the CSR told me there have been many instances of this lately. I told them that I knew that, which is why I was so frustrated that I had to instigate the action at every step, and Apple kept dropping the ball on follow-through.

Anyway, we’ll see what the next step brings. I’m super frustrated.

This happened to my wife this year. I dropped at FedEx and got receipts for both of our phones.

Mine made it back to Apple and her's did not.

She called Apple, they hung up on her.... great.

Then she did iMessage business chat and they said they would open an investigation and we should hear back in 48 hours. If we did not hear back by 72 hours, we should reach back out.

She waited 96 hours and reached out via phone call. Turns out the chat rep never even opened the case. Not a great track record thus far. The phone person the second time though really took charge and started the investigation and gave my wife a case number.

72 hours later roughly, she got an email that the iUP loan had been closed. No communication from Apple though. Only from the loan company. I would have hoped for a closure summary email from Apple.

Ultimately, it worked out but iUP is becoming a hassle at this point.

Couldn't order iPhones last year due to Apple Card holders not being allowed to place orders due to system bug. Had to work with Apple rep to be moved to the front of the line. And now this year the whole run around with the lost iUP return.

Update: I got an e-mail Monday afternoon, saying

Good news. Your trade-in is complete.
Order Number: XXXXXXXXXXXXX
The iPhone you returned has been inspected by an Apple Specialist, and your trade-in is complete. The loan associated with the iPhone has been closed.
Thank you for being part of the iPhone Upgrade Program. Enjoy your new iPhone.

This came about 14 hours after my chat with Apple Support, so I guess they just decided to credit my account and move on. I’m happy they resolved it so quickly, and definitely happy not to have to pay for two loans!

I hope everyone else gets a similar resolution!
