Always remember that with Samsung, the recommended price is only indicative and there will be sales and promos that lower the street price rapidly.

For example, here in Australia you can 15-30% off their stuff just by emailing their loyalty program and telling them you’ve got another Samsung device.

There’ll be plenty of sales too.

As much as I would also like this to be a more affordable 27" 5K monitor in the $800-$900 that you specified earlier, I just can't see that happening with all of the features the Samsung ViewFinity S9 has. It's clearly better than the LG Ultrafine (other than perhaps the matte finish) and that's still retailing for around $1,000 -$1,200.

But who knows? Maybe Samsung will surprise as after all with a lower than expected price. We'll just have to continue to wait and see. I still think they will try to price it below the $1,599 starting price for the ASD and should still offer good value, especially if one was considering the ASD with a matte finish and height-adjustable stand.
I wish there was a dumb option without all of the TV bells & whistles. That's all a waste of money as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure that could knock a couple of hundred off the price.

Remember that the Apple Studio Display, despite not giving us any "TV bells & whistles", is a full computer internally as well. Apple just didn't do the software to support those use cases.

So one side gives us features that not everyone needs, and the other gives us overspec'd hardware without software to utilize it... which is better? 🤷‍♂️ I would lean toward Samsung on that one.

Most rumors had it shipping in June of this year, but I'm guessing closer to September. This is the problem with pre-announcing stuff at CES. 90% of it never materializes, and the other 90% never ships! 🤣

I suspect the component cost of this was relatively minimal. But the "TV bells & whistles" are exactly why some of us are interested. I have an Apple Studio Display which looks amazing, but I use it in a home office where I sometimes want to watch TV without the computer connected.

Found a German website on film & photography tech news that states the S9’s availability for “August” and its price as 1,729 EUR. No source on this given, though. We’ll see…

Official German price for Studio Display being 1749€, that sounds more than a bit steep. Granted, you get better adjustability with S9 for the price, but the overall build quality of the Apple seems way better and undoubtedly also the integration with a Mac.

Review video here.

The bad news is in USD the RRP is the same as the Studio display. Yes it might be discounted but how many would go for the Samsung if the saving wasn't bigger than that?

Agree, definitely prefer the Studio display over this worse matte finish especially when the savings are very little even if you need to buy an additional stand for the Studio display. I just don't understand what the point is of these things, same thing happened with the 6k Dell that was supposed to be a XDR replacement. Worse picture quality, worse specs, very little savings, and years late. Well in this case just one year late but still. And the Studio display is now available on sale sometimes too from retailers.
