There's an Indian retailer (I think) listing its pre-release price at ₹1,15,999 which converts to US $1400. Price could be inflated for that market though...

That page has been up for a long time... I think that's just someone's guess. There's an Indian retailer (I think) listing its pre-release price at ₹1,15,999 which converts to US $1400. Price could be inflated for that market though...
I wish there was a dumb option without all of the TV bells & whistles. That's all a waste of money as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure that could knock a couple of hundred off the price. As much as I would also like this to be a more affordable 27" 5K monitor in the $800-$900 that you specified earlier, I just can't see that happening with all of the features the Samsung ViewFinity S9 has. It's clearly better than the LG Ultrafine (other than perhaps the matte finish) and that's still retailing for around $1,000 -$1,200.
But who knows? Maybe Samsung will surprise as after all with a lower than expected price. We'll just have to continue to wait and see. I still think they will try to price it below the $1,599 starting price for the ASD and should still offer good value, especially if one was considering the ASD with a matte finish and height-adjustable stand.
Remember that the Apple Studio Display, despite not giving us any "TV bells & whistles", is a full computer internally as well. Apple just didn't do the software to support those use cases.I wish there was a dumb option without all of the TV bells & whistles. That's all a waste of money as far as I'm concerned. I had a look at that link yesterday, and it was very interesting - a lot of good views, specs, etc. No price, but it was pretty cool. Today, it's gone... Looks like someone jumped the gun somewhere posting it!Compare All Monitors for business | Samsung Business Australia

I suspect the component cost of this was relatively minimal. But the "TV bells & whistles" are exactly why some of us are interested. I have an Apple Studio Display which looks amazing, but I use it in a home office where I sometimes want to watch TV without the computer connected.I wish there was a dumb option without all of the TV bells & whistles. Not yet. The official spec sheet just said "Max 1B Colors".Do we know if the S9 is 10bit or 8bit + FRC?
Judging by his videos, it's a bit of a bloodbath in terms of contrast and sharpness due to that matte coating. A shame, it looked so good on paperVideos including the matte display compared to ASD on my other post here:
EDIT: @joe.peeravas the brightness of menu text on the matte display makes me concerned. Is this a brightness/calibration issue?
Der Samsung ViewFinity S9 soll im August zum Preis von 1.729 Euro auf den Markt kommen.
Official German price for Studio Display being 1749€, that sounds more than a bit steep. Granted, you get better adjustability with S9 for the price, but the overall build quality of the Apple seems way better and undoubtedly also the integration with a Mac.Found a German website on film & photography tech news that states the S9’s availability for “August” and its price as 1,729 EUR. No source on this given, though. We’ll see…
