That is possibly not true. I'm using the 395x with the SSD and my iTunes lags like there is no tomorrow. Are you using the latest version of Sierra in your iMac?
I'm on a M395, runnning El Cap and have no lagging

No, it is true, maybe you can't read or didn't read it?

Why don't you read it again.
Maybe you didn't understand, you said there is no lag in your iMac with SSD and said that fusion drive causes the graphical lags (which is not true), so i pointed that I also have the high end GPU and the SSD and I have the lag that you say you don't.

Thanks for confirming, this is exactly my iMac, and it "lags like hell in iTunes", as I previously posted. Now, how safe is it to un-fusion the fusion drive and use only the SSD portion for OS and iTunes Library?
As long as you backup and perform the procedure correctly, it is 100% safe. I did the same and didn't lose anything.

It also resulted in a speed increase.

This is why I'm saying read it again I ONLY was referring to the instance in iTunes where you are in album view, and you click the album to view the songs in the album.

I'm only talking about that. I'm not talking about anything else.

Why don't you READ what I said I'm not talking about ALL lag are you kidding me. Are you kidding me right now?

You have no idea what you're talking about or even what we're talking about. How funny.

If you are in album view in iTunes, and you click the album to view the songs in the album, that lags on the 2tb fusion model but it doesn't lag nearly as much on the flash model.

The reason for that is fusion drive.

I have an M395 / 512 SSD model. I also tested it on a M395 / 2tb fusion model.

The 2tb fusion model lagged tremendously and it was a disgrace.

The lag in the flash model is barely noticeable / it doesn't lag.

Since all other aspects of the machines are the same, it would have to be the fusion drive.

Please bear in mind that the slight lag we are getting is nowhere near the lag on the 2tb fusion model. I realize that with pure flash we have slight lag.

edit: but that isn't even all the time. Many times it doesn't lag at all. it's maybe 50/50 for slight lag vs no lag with my machine.

That is why I am pointing out that you say there is no lag in iTunes album view in your Flash Model but I see the lag in Itunes album view on mine with Flash. That is why I also asked if you were using Sierra on my first reply.

I'm sorry, I might have missed that part.

I am intrigued that you are experiencing lag on your machine in this instance.

I am not on Sierra, I am still using El Capitan.

It's possible that could be what is causing it for you.

Again, if mine does lag, it is barely noticeable, and after a few more tests many don't lag at all. The animation is completely smooth (very nice by the way). interesting.

I'm glad this was brought up because this is one of the more clear distinctions between fusion vs flash that I have seen. It was truly painful trying to do this on the fusion model. And I think the fusion model is a great machine. But with album view it just doesn't work properly.

The iMac with the m395 and Fusion Drive you tested had Sierra installed? I'm now 99% sure that is Sierra causing these issues as with every new Mac now comes with Sierra pre-installed.

I fail to see how drive configuration impacts animation performance, to be honest.

The artwork image has already been read from disk by the time you click it. The iTunes album lag seems like a software issue, not hardware.

Edit: Seriously choppy on a 12" rMB too. But then again, most things are.

well, you have a fair point there.

The iMac I was trying it on did have Sierra installed.

I guess we will have to wait for the other person to weigh in and offer if they are on Sierra or not. or maybe it was mentioned.

It is for reasons like this that I have held off on upgrading to Sierra. El Capitan is working great.

if you think it's because of Sierra, that's fine.

I've owned both a 2tb fusion model and now the flash model and given how much more fluid my system is now, I tend to think it is due to the fusion drive.

It's either due to fusion drive or sierra. You choose.

however in the case of the MBP it could be something else. Depending on the specs of the machine and so forth.

I am a bit confused - it doesn't lag at all, or it doesn't lag as much?

Yes, I am on Sierra latest non-beta.

been stated I will repeat again.

Many times, it does not lag at all. However sometimes when clicking one of the albums there is slight lag. No big deal and I'm someone who is really irritated by lag.

It is about a 50/50 ratio of no lag vs slight (and barely worth mentioning) lag. it really is fluid though. And the animation moves fast.

I rate the task a solid 8.7/10 in terms of fluidity on my flash model with el capitan. However I rate it 0/10 on the 2tb fusion model I tried. Unusable.

The bottom line is, no matter what GPU you get with your Imac there will always be UI lags. In my opinion it's not even worth to get more than the M390 for general usage unless for gaming and hardcore video editing/3d modeling.

I have also lags with my iMac Late 2015 (4 GHz, 256 GB SSD, M395, 16 GB, Sierra 10.12.3). I have lags in the following situations:

- Scrolling in Safari (light lags)
- bigger Tables in Numbers (harder lags)
- Scrolling the Lightroom CC Library (hard lags)

Sierra is the default OS at my iMac so i can't test if I get a smoother handling with El Capitan. The hardware was testet by an ASP. They found no hardware issues.

There are no hardware issues, everything runs super smooth on Windows so it's either a MacOS problem or video driver.
