It's like saying "Why run Leopard on your PPC Mac when you can run Tiger and get better performance?" :)

Newer app support and UI design are the main reasons to go to iOS 7 instead of 6. Many apps have already dropped support for iOS 6.
I get that. Everyone is different.

I did just fine on a 3GS and my 5 on iOS 6 for an entire year and apps weren't being updated for iOS 6 either. But what I had in the final versions was just fine.

But others are different.

I ask the question because perhaps the OP might want iOS 6 but thinks that 7 is as far down as they can go.

But it's a moot point as the iPhone 5 can't be downgraded yet anyway.

Okay guys first of all I take no credit for this, this downgrade tool was developed by dayt0n (@daytonhasty) and xerub (@xerub) etc.

Their downgrade tool is called Odysseus, and it will let an iPhone 4S for example be downgraded to iOS 6.1.3 IF you have successfully saved your SHSH blobs before.
Now this tool is still entirely based on raw terminal code, but I heard an UI version will be coming soon for those of you who can't pull it off, but if you know the basics about coding, then you'll be able to do this, even I could.
I successfully downgraded my 4S from 8.1.2 to 6.1.3, hacktivated with p0sixpwn, everything works now but I don't have cell phone signal atm, probably because of a conflicting baseband issue which I hope I will get fixed soon.
But anyway this is awesome news right! Be gone with iOS 7-8 on our old devices! ;)

Again, better wait for the UI version if you don't wanna mess up and lose your jailbreak, unless you understand some basic coding. (And yes of course you need to be jailbroken at the moment to even try this)

What about the iPod 5G?

You can only downgrade if there is an available JB for that specific device and the avaliable JB has to match your iOS version. I would love to downgrade my iPad 2 but i'm running 9.3.1 so it's impossible for me.
