I don't know if you know this, but if you're using a new iMac, then you have a free choice to either get the new mouse, the old wireless "Apple Mouse" or wired Apple Mouse

Magic Mouse better than expected!

I got my new iMac i7 this morning, and I have to say, I actually really like the Magic Mouse for everyday usage. For editing and color work, (or really anything that's going to keep me moving that sucker nearly constantly ALL DAMNED DAY) I'm sticking with my trusty trackball. But for now, with normal type stuff, this Magic Mouse is actually quite good. AND, accurate.

For anyone who hasnt at least tried the BetterTouchTool, the latest update has made this utility something I would actually pay for. The developer seems to put an update out constantly. The latest update added single finger taps with customizable sensitivity as well as the existing 2 finger swipe up and down. So my current layout is...

2 finger swipe up activates spaces
2 finger swipe down activates Expose
single finger tap left is volume down
single finger tap right is... you guessed it.... volume up

Next I might add 2 finger tap left and right for FF and RW and my hand never has to leave the mouse.

Gestures (some work better than others)

Predefined actions (again, some better than others)

I highly recommend checking this utility out. It has made my workflow much more efficient. Especially the 2 finger swipe up and down, those seem easier for me to do than the 2 finger left and right.

great synopsys, can you start a new thread "MM+BTT" as there are about 1000+ combinations and I'd be curious how everyone is configuring? (I'd do it myself but I don't want to bite your style. :)

It's obvious there are more MM lovers than haters esp. with this utility.

Thanks man, I now use and love this! I only wish they add the option to skip to next song instead of just fast forwarding, otherwise GREAT

I think it's a great mouse. I found it very intuitive to use. I'd like it to go a bit faster than it does, but all Apple mice and trackpads I find too slow. I'd also like to see the two finger gestures invoked in Finder. They should add some other gestures, like pinching or tapping. Finally, I think making the thing out of aluminum would make it much more durable. I hate plastic. It's going to look like crap in no time.

I see BetterTouchTool answers a bunch of the suggestions I had. I'm giving it a go. Looks pretty cool.

I know, thats what Im trying to work out also. Im sure the functionality is there, its just a matter of figuring it out.

Thanks justit, you know what, I thought about doing a separate thread but put it in here cause I know a lot of people will be checking this thread out because they may not like the MM, but with BTT its a whole new mouse.
Ill take your advice and throw a thread up now!

Better Touch Tool is FREAKING AMAZING

It's what should have come with the Magic Mouse. ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. This developer deserves an award. Seriously. Rock on. That is all.

Along with many others I wasn't overly impressed with the Mighty Mouse and its functionality as it is shipped by Apple. Coming from a Logitech MX Revolution it also felt quite small in my hand and not particularly ergonomic.

But I have to agree that the Better Touch Tool revolutionizes the device. I still go back to the MX Revolution for use in Boot Camp and I find myself subconsciously trying to do the gestures.

A huge thumbs up the developer of Better Touch Tool. Apple needs to hire the guy.

I agree 100%. I can only assume that Apple had plans to add some of this functionality down the line. If not, they need to strongly consider it.

I'm on my second Magic Mouse -- I bought a stand-alone version for my Pro, and the two rubber "ski pads" along the base of the mouse made it very difficult to move left and right. But, I took it back due to bluetooth problems.

I now have an iMac, and the "ski pad" feet that came with the second Magic Mouse are strangely less "grippy" than the first mouse. Odd, but it makes side-to-side movements much easier.

Naturally, this could be all in my mind....

that bettertouch app is just incridible. using 2 finger tap for expose and 3 finger tap for spaces. nice

You don't really need to grip the MM unless you're moving it. That's what I like about it, manipulation the various functions is a lot easier when you just have to move your fingers.

I'm looking forward to the update, because the MM eats batteries pretty quickly, so the rechargeables are getting lots of use.

Aside from that, it's very well made. Even the cheap springs that hold the batteries in place for most devices have been replaced with a mechanism that is head and shoulders above what others would use in their devices.

The Logitech is designed to be held, because there is no functionality gained from the surface.

The surface of the MM is where you do your navigating, so there is no point in gripping the mouse unless you're moving it. Even then, it's not uncomfortable.

I imagine Logitech will have its own version out as soon as they can design and manufacture one.

I had my magic mouse for 2 weeks, and the right section where I do the "right click" does not click. I am returning. It is okay for day to day applications (web, document) but not for games or graphic design...

Mine wouldn't either but there was a setting to enable the right button that's not enabled by default.... at least it wasn't for my Mini. My Mini was also brand new and had never been used with another mouse (except during the initial registration process) so I know it was the default setting.

magic mouse

Just bought Magic Mouse and I like it. The low profile does not bother me. The only thing is on glass desk top you have to use a mouse pad. I guess if you like a larger profile mouse in your hand Magic will not suit user.
