My Apple Watch keeps track when to take my medication for Parkinson's and A-Fib. I'm sure any smart watch can do that, but with the series 4, I'll now be able to tell when I'm in A-Fib so I can take measures to minimize my condition. I have been diagnosed with Parkinson's over two years ago, recently diagnosed with A-Fib six weeks ago.

I use the watch every day to walk and measure my progress. I've had some hip problems so I walk very slow. My average mile is between 22.5 and 23.5 minutes on the pacing indicator on the watch. I have never had it not record the exact amount of time that I was out exercising. I have had an Apple watch zero, Apple Watch2nand now the 4. Never a problem

I used to wear a G Shock with 5 alarms for my daily routine.
However, I can now have infinite number of alarms on my Apple watch.
Not just alarms but silent alarms...

I'm not using AW for fitness to much just complete 3 rings , no workouts
I like series 4 but might not buy the top model maybe just sport one.
back to 2014 apple start the first gen with price start $349 and then reduce with year later for series 1
I think next year apple will keep series 4 and reduce the price same as they did for first gen .

Yes, if you wait 12 months, AW4 aluminum 40mm will be priced at $349.

I just got mine today. I got it so I could use it to make a call for help if my phone is in a different room, fall detection, and heart rate stuff, as I’m disabled with mobility issues and (so far) fairly benign heart stuff that I need to keep an eye on. I’m not sure how much I’ll use it beyond that. I didn’t even want to wear a watch again, after years without one, but this was the best solution for myriad reasons. I’m a big Apple geek, and this was the first year the AW was even remotely appealing. I’ll be happily surprised if I end up finding daily uses for it.

There are all kinds of reasons to have one. And all kinds of reasons it’s not for everyone. Give it a good honest try, then move on if you’re not convinced.

 I’ve had many iPhones and iPads over the years…some I loved…some I only liked…but never disliked. So I decided to try an Apple Watch…the Series 4 – 44mm GPS + Cellular. I’ve had it over a week now and I can honestly say I’m not too impressed by it at all :( . Like I’ve come to expect from Apple, it was packaged well, in perfect condition, and overpriced. I guess I will not return it but It feels more like a boring “novelty item” than a high-tech wonder device. I keep trying to convince myself I will “come around”. Maybe I don’t have good apps…maybe it will grow on me…maybe me seeing a trillion dollar company asking for donations ruined the experience for me…maybe…

:apple:
I don’t understand if you don’t like it why wouldn’t you just return it.
Sounds like a waste of money for you.

Well, I purchased an SS S2 a year ago but returned it because I figured if I was going to own one I wanted the latest and greatest, (S3) but never did buy one because when it came down to it, I couldn’t justify laying out the money and getting ‘so little’ from it. I waited a year figuring I’d try again when the S4 came out. I bought an SS 40 and a second AW AL 40 for my kid. I decided I was going to take advantage of the workout capabilities this time around. Anyway, without delving into it too much, I went for a quick walk to my gym the other day and got a notification that “I must be exercising”. I figured I’d be better to check into it a bit more. I’ve done about 4 sessions of outdoor walks since then where I started them. No issues at all. The difference for me this time around is I am determined to find out what an AW offers. I won’t activate LTE nor do I ever make many calls or receive any. I play music almost exclusively through BT headphones and get the odd text, but if I weren’t interested in the ‘health’ and activity side of it this time I doubt it would turn my crank much. I went right out and got a sleep app and now I’m diving into the fitness tracking. If I wasn’t, I’m pretty certain I wouldn’t find much use for one either, so I understand the OP. They’re not for everyone.
I’m pretty sure if I saw it as little more than a high-tech watch I wouldn’t want one either. I don’t own one just because I can and I don’t wave it around like ‘look at me’. There’s no crime in not wanting one. S

Actually it's a very common problem with Apple Watches (check for other posts if you don't believe me). Mine works great for virtually every kind of workout except outdoor walking (other workouts that I commonly use are outdoor run, outdoor cycle and HIIT). When I take my dog for a walk and start an outdoor walk workout I usually get exercise credit for about 4 minutes of my 30 minute walk. I think Apple thinks I should walk faster or something... I dunno.
I've had some problems with walking occasionally. I re-calibrated and that made a big improvement overall, however, I still have some issues sometimes when walking the dogs. My theory is that we slow down for too many potty or sniffing sessions and also maybe my arm doesn't swing freely enough when holding a leash.

I use mine heavily for fitness.. gym, walking & cycling; notifications for work {have also taken calls on the watch when the phone is in another room}, but my favorite is ApplePay.
I can't imagine buying anything without pre-defined use cases ;) I knew what I wanted it for when I got the original Series 0.
Play around with it, you may find some personal gems!

Is this post for real? Is it a troll post? I have used the watch for probably 1000 workouts over the years and that has never once happened to me.
I wouldn't dismiss what they are saying, a few other members have seen similar results since the 5.0.1 watchOS update last week and I've definitely noticed a difference in Exercise tracking since I applied the update.

Activity Rings still broken in 5.0.1

If they ever can do blood pressure your insurance would pay for it. It would be very useful. Body temp, heart rate, blood pressure, activity monitor, SOS, to name a few.
Maybe.

I think that makes sense. I'm not into fitness stuff, but wanted the AWS4 to get into fitness. Well yesterday I did an outdoor walking "Workout" that lasted approx 1.5 hours. So after I get home I checked the stats on the Activity app and it said I only did 6 mins of exercise.
For me it detects when I’m on my daily walks to and from the office, and offers to start tracking after I’ve walked a mile. I don’t even actively use the Activity app.

I think the greatest benefit of the Apple Watch for you is not being seen with a G-Shock.

It's by far the most advanced watch on the market in terms of what it can do , I wouldn't take a rolex compared to the new Apple Watch 4 :)

My husband bought me a S3 last year because I always keep my phone on silent so I would miss his texts and calls. He once went for a run while we were out of town and got lost and I didn’t get his message for like an hour when he called me from a store. So now my wrist vibrates.

I’m not a huge exerciser but the watch has made me obsessed with closing my rings and I am a lot more active in general. In fact I am so obsessed with closing my rings that I bought an S4 this week rather than send my S3 away for a week to 10 days to have a warranty repair looked at.

I'm probably not a typical use case, but I didn't really enjoy exercise until I got the Apple Watch. Loved my S0 so much I moved to an S3. It got me into running properly. I've lost over 3 stone (48 pounds/22kg) which I credit mostly to the excellent fitness track on the Apple Watch and good quality apps - Strava, HealthFit and MyFitnessPal.

If the Watch struggles to record your exercise by default, then force it by starting the Workout app and selecting walk. That way as long as you are walking, it will credit the exercise. If you don't like the Workout app, Under Armour do a series of apps and one is called MapMyWalk. See if there is a Watch version of that. If not, then Strava also has a walk function I believe.

If you want to try the fitness stuff then give it time and try some different things. My personal way of doing it is use the default Workout app during my run, and use the HealthFit app to sync to Strava for the stats/segments that Strava provides.

Exactly. Yet if you mark it as a "Functional Training" Workout then you get full credit for the workout, minus the distance calculation of course.

What's unfortunate is I feel like the app ecosystem is actually worse today than it was six months after I got my Series 0 in 2015. A lot of apps have removed the watch part because they didn't want to keep maintaining it. A lot of the reason is because people weren't using it because the early watches were slow and had smaller displays. I hope that some of these companies come back around. I went to use Calcbot the other day and found it missing from my Apple Watch. That is like half the reason I use that app, the other half being the iCloud tape. I would use other apps too like Twitter and Instagram while waiting. That sort of short form content is perfect for the Watch and would be even better on Series 4 displays. Other apps have hardly added any functionality since coming out, but at least they're not dead. I also feel like there aren't as many complications as I would like to see from third parties, and especially the Apple complications such as Messages that aren't available on the new Infograph Watch faces, but are on other face types.

I so agree with this observation. Which is probably why I am a "I kind of like this watch" type of person. I use fitness apps, but I love data to chart my progress. Apple watch is behind Garmin in this area. I like having maps if I go on runs. Apple does this in their activity app, but Strava, MapMyRun, NikeRunClub do this better. Not to mention that if you want more detailed information you need to go into an app on your phone.

In a perfect world, Apple would rebuild their activity app and follow Garmin's lead and have one place that people could view their sleep data, calorie burn, workout stats, step counts, HR data, etc. Apple is about simplicity, the watch and the collection of data is not because you really need to know how to navigate apps to get the data you need. But maybe, this is what the Apple Watch is for?

The AW is not for everyone. I returned my S0 after it's purchase long ago. It was months before I tried again but it grew on me. Have had ever model and love my new SBSS 44mm.

You got to make your own choice, you got 14 days from purchase.

It's not for you then and there's nothing wrong with that. Return it. They'll look at you and say "Ok, let's get that started." They won't ask you any questions. You'll have $400+ back. Easy. Do it today.

I'm eager to get one, but I really need longer battery life so I'm on the sidelines until they can extend it to at least 2 days so I can do sleep tracking. I wear a Fitbit now. It was really cool at first, then it was just a novelty. It grew to be a necessity for me that has no novelty or wow factor. It just helps me do mundane things better.
