12PM -> 13PM -> 14P

13PM was simply too big and heavy. On the other hand, the battery life on 14P was a big downgrade. 13PM was easily 2 days without charging. 14P is still on 100% battery life, yet in summer months (with brightness on full outside) I had to stop using it mid day a couple of times so the battery would last until the evening.

With the 15PM being smaller and 10% lighter than 13PM, I decided to switch again. We'll see.

I genuinely enjoyed downsizing to the 13 pro after the XS Max. I have a tendency to switch it up each time I upgrade just to keep the upgrades feeling newer. I’m trying the 15 Pro Max this time around due to the slight improvements in weight and balance, but on specs alone it’s impossible to know how it will feel.

I think there’s a significant possibility that I’m not going to like the larger size model and will end up either exchanging or keeping this model for just one year and then handing it down to the mom (who does need the large model). But hey, that’s all part of the fun. 😂

Thank you everyone. I think I won't be able to decide until I get these both phones in my hand at Apple Store. I think the phone will be in the stores in my country in 8 days. In the meantime I'm watching a lot of reviews. It looks like the 5x zoom isn't going to bring very different experience according to some reviews. If I can give up the 5x zoom feature I might get a Pro version instead of the Max one. I know the battery life will be reduced but I'm sure it will be much better than my iPhone X :)

Honestly I'm struggling with this. Usually a pro user considering pro max. I kinda wish there was something bigger than the pro but smaller than the max. I find the max a little large and hard to use 1 handed, but the one thing I really am considering it for is the battery life more than the size. If I could get better battery in the pro I would love it
Heyy I know it’s now September in 2024 but I’ve been debating on different phone sizes this year and it’s interesting how I came across this message saying. “ I wish there was a phone a little bit bigger than the pro but a bit smaller than the max” lol.

Apple heard you with the 6.3 inch 16 pro. If you ever see this message, let me know what you ended up doing and what phone you have now and what you think about the pro and the pro max. I pre-ordered the pro but now I’m really looking everywhere to see how people feel about the pro max. I game on my phone and the graphics and visuals look amazing on both. But is the big size of the max worth it now that the pro is a tad bigger. Also, the batteries are insane for both versions now. OK if you see this, let me know your thoughts on all of it. Thank you.

Good point, Breanna417!

I had 15PM for two months. It's a great phone, great screen, great battery life... until it is on the table. When you put it in your pocket, it becomes an issue, at least for me. I always use iPhones with a case, metal is just too slippery. PM would probably be ok without a case, if chassis was some kind of plastic.

Switched to 15P, much better.

16P this year.

I held my friends 15 Pro a week ago and it seems like it is way to small now after having the ProMax for the last few years. The screen and keyboard are important to me and I do not think I could get used to the smaller keyboard anymore. To each his/her own!

The keyboard is a biggie for me also, especially since talk to text is garbage. However, I would love to go back to a regular, non-pro iPhone in the smaller size, and now that they have the macro camera, it’s definitely going to be an option when I upgrade next year.

I have been on a 12 PM for years. Decided to try the 16P. I have had it 2 weeks. I really think my typing is significantly worse than it was on the 12 PM. But I do like the smaller size. I don't consume a bunch of video media on my phone and I always have reading glasses with me anyway. But the typing is a real problem. I'm around people a lot of the time and since I work in the legal field dictating to the phone in front of others is a non-starter. But I'm curious if my typing really is worse or if it just seems like it. My daughter has the 15PM. Anyway I can objectively test? I'll check for an iOS typing app. Maybe it will keep track of mistakes. I don't want to go back to the Max just because it seems like I am making more mistakes if I am not because everything else is fine.

Having the larger keyboard has definitely helped me with my typing on the phone, although I don’t think a phone could ever have one large enough for me to not hit the wrong keys a fair amount of the time. I’m not sure having the larger keyboard will be enough to keep me on a big phone next time I upgrade. I know I won’t go larger than 15PM, so if that big phone continues to get bigger, it’ll be a no for me. I’ll just have to figure out how to survive it.

Always been a MAX user fwiw. I use two hands most of the time when typing.
That said based on my research given the normal Pro size has gotten a good battery boost it can be a viable option for most too who aren't fond of the max screen. I know most of my colleagues blasted me carrying a 6.9" phone lol but the battery life improvement is a huge no brainer especially when I keep my phones for 4-5 years at least.

Put simply the max is perfect for me to touch type without looking with two hands. I've tested the 16 pro and while it is more portable, i think im too spoiled by the bigger size and the ease of use since you get so much more for a bit more $.

After a series of Max phones (6+,8+ and 12-15. skipped the X) I went with the 16 Pro. I never really cared for the size or weight of the Max phones but the battery life kept me coming back. I still needed to top off the phones at some point during the day as my usage is constant running Maps and streaming music (XM or AplMusic).

I read a 16 review on Toms and during the battery life test there were only a few minutes difference between a 15ProMax and a 16Pro which swayed my thinking towards the Pro. Finally the efficiencies of the cell modem, chip and other components along with the larger battery made it an viable option for me.

During the iPhone 13 era used both a Max and Mini utilizing the T-Mobile DIGITS feature for 1 year. I used the Max as my "work" phone and the Mini on the weekends. Loved the size and pocket ability of the the Mini but it a bit of a chore managing whole thing.

One week in with the 16Pro and things are working well. Battery life is great and hopefully will get better as things settle in. Screen size while using using Maps with the phone mounted on the dash is a none issue. Pocket ability is vastly improved. This one I may keep awhile...hehe

I downloaded a typing app today. It gave me an idea of where I am with precision on this 16P (FYI, I am a touch typist and while not perfect on the 12 PM and previous Max, the number of corrections already made automatically or manually in this one post has been maddening- that was with a -jng at the end!!!) I have large hands.

To quote a satirical piece on resume blunders, “I am a great ‘typtist’!” And I try to use correct punctuation and grammar even in texts. (My mom was an English teacher, my wife was a teacher and school administrator, and my daughter is a teacher - everyone wants to correct me!)

So, I just can’t even with this never ending string of errors.

The smaller form factor is enough to make me consider practicing for a week or so to see if I can improve. But I am going to put the app on my daughter’s 15 PM tomorrow and test. If it’s clearly different, I am just going back to the Max.

Here’s what I‘m curious about. I can remember being able to type quickly and accurately on iPhones of yore (my first was an iPhone 4S). I did use the ”big” phone from the iPhone 6 Plus through the 12 Pro Max, and switched to the 13 Pro and currently 14 Pro.

My rate or error is considerably worse over the last couple years. Did I adjust the the larger size and then fail to ever recalibrate? Has the keyboard logic changed over the years? (I mean, I was usually surprised at how accurate it was on such small screens 10+ years ago— it seems like it accounted not for where you actually touched the screen but where it appeared your finger was touching the screen). My third option was that the shape of my thumb has changed from mashing these glass keyboards over the years 😂 Who knows— my guess was that the software behind they keyboard changed over the years But I could be wrong. I hadn’t considered trying the Max size again… it’s just so unwieldy / hard to use one-handed in general use.

I’m not sure because I have had iPhones since the beginning, and it doesn’t seem like I get great improvement from having the max. I may see a slight difference because the keys are definitely a bit bigger, but it’s still not great. I don’t remember having this much of an issue back with my 6-8+

IDK if some of mine has to do with age or eyesight or anything of that nature, but it’s frustrating, and talk to text is NOT a big help.

Yeah it is frustrating. I’ve actually toyed with getting one of those “Clicks” keyboard cases — probably more for novelty & nostalgia more than a real burning need for more accurate typing though. I just don’t remember it being so bad until the last couple years and just figure the software has changed.

Though I was struggling a bit still with the 14 Pro today trying to use it one handed and hit those touch targets at the top of the screen… maybe I might as well get a Max for my next phone 😂

I’ve noticed on the 16 max I make WAY more mistakes than before. And not sure why?!
Tries the pro seemed okay about the same. Something must be different in software.
I honestly think it's an iOS 18 software issue. I notice constant keyboard lag even on iPhone 16 Pro, even while typing here on this text box on this forum on Safari on iPhone 16 Pro. The characters appear about a half second after I click on keyboard. Some other forums behave this way too. I make typos 99% of the time I use the keyboard. Don't remember having these issues on past iOS versions.

yes exactly!

I keep hoping my typing will improve with the regular Pro keyboard but it’s definitely worse for me than my former Max.

I’m coming up on three weeks of use (with a 30-day return/exchange for a Max if necessary).
