First iPhone Reviews Coming Tonight?
The Apple 2.0 Blog claims that the first official iPhone reviews should start trickling out tonight at 6 p.m. PT (9 p.m. ET).
Apple has provided review iPhones to select journalists ahead of time to allow them time to use and review the units for the iPhone launch. Walt Mossberg received his iPhone on June 11th.

I would love to have honesty here 
Of course I guess that the iPhone isn't designed for typing up the great blog or novel but it offers basic functionality then that's good enough.
I guess that a Sidekick Hiptop would be a better on the go blogging tool.

no product is "perfect" so I imagine you'll see some constructive criticism. Everyone I know who has a data plan with their cellphone experience sluggish down/uploads and the like ... it's just part of the territory. Imagine how things will be in even 3-5 years ...
I like Walt Mossberg, but he and Jobs kiss each others asses so much it's hard to hold any credibility for him as a tech journalist. How about giving him a phone when all the other journalists get one? I can't really trust what he writes with that sycophantic relationship.
I know it's an exciting product and all, and that MacRumors likes to report every story as early as possible, but this is getting beyond a joke. It feels like we're getting at least 3-4 iPhone related stories every day. How about cutting that down to 1-2, maybe even a daily summary.
I'm sure members here will surely agree it looks excessive with this many articles daily, and there's still 3 days of it left. Reviews and comments from reviewers currently trying the device have been slowly filtering out over the last couple of weeks, so having to have an entire article to explain there will be some official reviews later is the final straw for me. So far today it has been Service Plans, video of synching and then this. That's to add to the 4 articles yesterday, (two of which for us Europeans surfaced within today's timeframe as they were largely too late for us yesterday).
Someone please wake me up when the iPhone stories start to disappear and we can get back to Macs.

Any Hope For 16GB?
Anyone out there think there is any hope left for 16GB? I was hoping it would be part of a "One More Thing" Apple likes to do at the last minute in their typical underpromise/overdeliver philosophy. I am expecting something to be announced thursday or Friday before 6:00PM. With the Data Plans they announced, I might buy even if 8GB is my max. How hard is it to sync with iTunes to replace content? I personally don't need to carry around my whole library.
Does AT&T have anything faster than EGDE that they can roll out within a year's time? I am assuming that maybe Apple did not put 3G in their phone for this reason. It cuts the production cost and the US does not appear to be ready for it anyway. I don't mind waiting a little while for something to load if I cannot get to a WiFi hotspot. Most of what I would be looking up at such times would probably come from "widgets" anyway.

I know, but these stories seem to have been non-stop since January, remember this story has also surfaced on and off for several years so far. It's more like iPhone month anyway.
It's not your fault, you're just providing what is expected. I just see several different, yet similar, iPhone stories a day as excessive. Personal opinion.

What if there was a little button that you could push (or even just accelerometer detect) so that the keyboard would fill up the screen in a horizontal mode. That would create enough space between and large enough keys to make the keyboard work excellent - with thumbs!
Problem is there wouldn't be alot of space to show the type that you create, but I am sure apple could find an elegant way around that.

I'm waiting for the Arstechnica review, that will be very detailed and unbiased, (and will probably involve an iPhone being destroyed).
They recommend you create an iPhone playlist and sync that so you're not downloading your entire library. I have the same issue ... my library would NEVER fit on an iPhone unless they released a 16+ GB variant.
Learning Curve
There's always going to be a learning curve with a new device. Having been an avid Crackberry user for the past 5yrs, moving to a new BB model was different for a time. I went from a 6790 to a 7100t to an 8700. The 6790 has a 'normal' qwerty keyboard and when I went to the 7100, it used predictive text, then to an 8700 and back to a 'normal' keyboard. Now we are rolling out 8800's at the office and no more click wheel, a centered 'pearl' instead. Moving to each new device took me about 3-4 days of solid use to finally use the device well. I assume the same and will not discount the typing if I have difficulties at first. I think some of the reviewers need to give the keyboard a chance.
As for the EDGE network, I noticed a HUGE difference using EDGE over GPRS on my 8700. I currently use GMail, Google Maps, etc on it and it's slow, but certainly usable. Living in the NY Metro Area, I will be able to hop on WiFi not only because we have so many free public hot spots, but most asshats leave their wireless wide open.

Why did you buy an Apple in the first place? Probably for the same reason as most of the people reading this - they manage to stay ahead of the curve. The personal computer as we know it today is not going to be the same in 3-5 years. The iPhone is a very good "next step"...
...and IMHO they certainly haven't forgotten about the laptop/desktop. What about the current OS doesn't suit your needs...or doesn't blow XP/Vista out of the water? And if you wait just another few months for Leopard, you'll be even farther ahead of the curve.
So stop complaining and enjoy the ride. I'm far from kissing Jobs' a**, but I do respect him as a visionary and trust his instinct. Aside from the Segway, he's got a pretty good track record.

The iPhone is probably the biggest release of an electronic device in years (maybe since the iPod?). It's going to get a huge amount of coverage in the mainstream press and the geek press. Makes perfect sense to have a ton of coverage here on a mac site.
And it's not like this is going to go on indefinitely, the product ships Friday. If it bugs you that much, just take a break from reading the site until next week. It's not like there's going to be much mac news in that time anyway.
here's the thing: the iphone probably isn't as cool/easy to use as the marketing videos make it out to be. i will be pleased as punch to be proven wrong, but i'm ready for that reality.
however, even if the iphone works half as well as the videos make out then it's already an order of magnitude superior to every other phone i've used/owned -- and i've used owned a lot. from the original motorola bricks, to treos, blackberries, htc, sony smart phones, motorola's slvr, razr, et al. and universally their interfaces are beyond poor. i'd pay $500 just for the UI on the iphone.

Yeah, that's about what I was expecting the reviews to say, anyway. It's not a Blackberry killer. I never expected it would be, personally. But I'm sure it's fine for my purposes.
Maybe that's why the stock is drooping; all these institutional investors won't be replacing their Blackberries and they can't understand that for most consumers it isn't such a big deal.

I just want to know if you can make and install your own ringtones. I see nothing on either video that says you can or can't. If you can't that's going to be really crappy .
