From the research I've done, the Porsche 2024 9/11 has been driven/previewed & doesn't have this layout.

I'm guessing Taycan & Macan.

i don't mind touch screens for the radio and navigation, but for car controls, nothing beats knobs and buttons that you don't have to look at to use.
Don’t know about you but when I’m driving and need directions I just ask Siri Siri would be nice if better integrated.

To each his or her own. There’s no way I am going to pay the price of a high-end vehicle today and then have look at some Apple geek’s idea of what a dash panel should look like. I know. I’m one of the few who does NOT want my vehicle to be a smart phone on wheels. It would be nice if one has the option of limiting Car Play to the infotainment screen.
Yeah, just don't have it active. I know not every car is like this, but for wired Carplay vehicles, don't plug the phone in or immediately toggle Carplay OFF and go back to the normal UI. In my car I tend to prefer the native UI over Carplay, and in some cases will just toggle all the displays off because I'm not driving some place where I'm concerned with anything on the UI, Apple or otherwise. But it's a bit like having A/C in a climate where you never need to use it. Then just don't. For those that do, they have it.

Is there anyone who believes this will increase driver attentiveness?

Depends on how good the voice side of it is? If you don't have to take your hands off the wheel and can just press a button on the wheel and adjust more things that would normally take your mind/eyes/hands away from driving... Maybe. If the customization of the dash allows for better readability, better at a glance discovery of the info you want? Maybe.

I'm team buttons, dials, knobs, switches ... But, if automakers are going to shove all this touchscreen crap down our throats, I'd prefer CarPlay over any of the other options I've used (in rental cars, family member cars, etc)

Time will tell.

Having looked into getting a Taycan - the passenger screen is an optional extra (and not cheap) and you start questioning it’s “worth”. I certainly would not spec it.

Plus, I agree with others as I prefer physical buttons for certain operations (heating being one) where you want to adjust up/down without having to look for the icon. The Taycan does have haptic style feedback once you push the appropriate icon but you’ve already had to take your eyes off the road to find it.

I’m not a driver but I’d take a Porsche over a Tesla any day of the week.
I would take a plaid over any Porsche EV any day of the well. Tesla does the EV thing, imo, better than any other EV manufacturer. As far as carplay, yes it would be great in a Tesla, but right now the only option is after market units. Other than that the Tesla infotainment integration is superb.

Exactly. I don't have to look to change the volume, adjust temperature, etc.

Yea I think everyone knows that they don't have to use CarPlay, but he/she wanted to use CarPlay on the infotainment screen without a complete takeover.

Agreed. I had no idea but the front seats in mine came with massagers. Ok that's fine and all. I don't need that feature but my wife loves it. Only to find out that passenger screen doesn't have controls for it. You need to use the center screen. Other than being the designated music DJ or navigator, the passenger screen is *less* functional for the passenger than just reaching a bit further for the center screen. It looks slick, but I would not have spec'd it either.

I do like the haptics, but to your point, you have to look first. There is a touchpad you can drag and click on, but again, not quite as intuitive as just having a couple of dials.
