They reduced the number of cores in some models and reduced bus sizes. Snapdragon interests me more at this point.

Anyone see anything worthwhile at the event last night? Actually so uninterested in apple devices right now I didn’t watch the event.

30mins of the usual fluff. Nothing interesting to me tbh (m1->m2->m3) when tbh the m1 is plenty fast enough for everything I do anyway.

It's saying something when the most interesting thing to me was the space black colour for the macbook pro

You know it was kind of confirmation that they are going to coast along on the incremental margins for a while with their established platforms. No Macpad or other interesting ideas. No foldable iPhone. What you see is what you get except slightly cheaper components that you shouldn't notice in your daily usage. Still insane battery life, insane speed, no heat...but no gaming or really new ideas either.

Not much. I was hoping for a better iMac, but not better enough.

You can spend more on the high end laptop if you want to though, over $7000, that at least is interesting to look at. :)

Well I think the M3 is very impressive, and generally have been impressed with Apple Silicon. I just think the specs and pricing scale of the iMacs is disappointing.

It is ridiculous to put 8 GB of RAM in a so-called "Pro" machine and charge that much for it.

Like someone said in another thread........

"Pro" is merely a product category differentiator, similar to "Air," and has nothing to do with it being only useful or targeted to "professionals."

Thinking back to the very first MBP I got back in 09 sometime, it had ports galore, but only 2GB(!) of RAM and a 250GB (5400 RPM) HD. It was a 'base' model aimed at people who were willing to shell out the extra dough for a few more niceties - not a true 'pro' who needed a workstation to crank something out. Same thing here.

As I've gone back to using my M2 MBA as my daily driver, my experience with that (as well as my old 11" MBA) pretty much cements that opinion for me. Should Apple introduce a much-rumored 'low cost' model and/or a 11"-12" by the time this bites the dust (heaven forbid), I'll gladly pick one of those up and give these "Pro" models a wide berth.

I don't see Pro as being only useful or targeted to professionals, but I do see it as something that offers 'more' than other machines. In some ways it does, in RAM it doesn't and that is just nonsense.

So the retailer refunded my 15 Pro no issues. I’ve today picked up a regular 15 in blue after running my Pixel 5 in 60hz mode for a week. No issues so far with motion sickness like before, feel’s comfortable. Also grabbed a Series 9 in silver.

I can see this working out nicely. Wasn’t keen on getting another Tensor based Pixel, I’ve had too many bad experiences with them and I don’t trust Google to look after its customers.

I’m tempted to pick up an M2 Mini again to replace my Windows desktop, but we shall see.

In the end the 60hz 15 wasn't for me, after I had lived with it for a while I noticed it far too often. So, after a quick stint with the Pixel 8 which cemented my decision to go iOS, I picked up another 15 pro in Natural Titanium, the colour I wanted. I decided I'll just push through the motion sickness I was getting previously and hopefully adapt. Then when I got it, the strangest thing happened, no motion sickness or dizziness at all! Result.

So I followed up with an Apple Watch Series 9 in midnight, the latest Apple TV 4K and a pair of HomePods for stereo setup.

The biggest shocker thought, my wife switched to from her Pixel 7 Pro to a pink iPhone 15 and a pink Series 9 Apple Watch. She couldn't be happier. It's so surreal because she was the biggest Google fan girl, but after playing with my 15 she was really impressed.

Last bit of news is I have a start date for my new job. I mentioned previously that I'll have to use a locked down managed windows laptop for work going forward. Not quite true, I'll actually end up with an M2 MacBook Air 15" 16/512 in Midnight as my work machine :D

I still need to figure out what to do for a personal device, I guess it depends how locked down the MacBook will be.

That was a ride! :D Not that you need to do what I do just because I say so, but I have always felt it is worth it to have a completely separate device from my corporate overlords. They know everything you do on that device and can take it at a moment's notice. Get a simple M1 MBA at least and use that. :)

Looking to buy a 4060 - daughter wants an upgrade from her 1660. I suggested the AMD card mentioned here but she needs nVidia. It seems like there should be significant power savings. It's hard to buy the card based on reviews and comparisons but we're all getting screwed to one degree or another by AMD and nVidia. I suggested going to Microcenter. Never been there before.

I would get the 4060 ti 16gb atleast for the extra ram to help future proof it more.

Personal device sorted. Bagged a 2020 M1 13 MBA in the sales. Bought through the business so can claim the VAT back so net cost £600.

And I just bought a new Windows PC, an HP Z2 Mini with 64G of RAM and an i9-13900. :)

It wouldn't do for extended extreme processing because it's so small, but just as a home user PC, it's nice.

superb! I recently bought a 15" mba although my ego says I should be using an MBP, but nope, fanless MBA, takes everything I throw at it and no slowdown. Those Mx chips are amazing.

I recently added a 16GB M1 Macbook Pro 13" to my 16" Acer Predator Helios Neo 4060 i7-13700HX. Best of both worlds.
