Wow, I didn't expect this! Great news, even though I'm already a licensed Flip user.

Edit: It appears to support streaming content now too, in addition to local playback :D

You can get it from the source: http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv.htm

Added playback support for AVI files, the ISO MPEG-4 V1.1 video decoder and several audio decoders including: Microsoft ADPCM, IMA ADPCM, G.711, G.726 and MPEG Layer 3.

• Exposed several advanced audio and video encoder controls and added the ability to save the encoder settings as a named profile.

• Added support for real-time streaming from both live and on-demand sources. For multiple bit-rate sources, stream selection is based on the QuickTime 'Streaming Speed' preference setting.

• Significant optimization for G4 and G5 systems allows real-time playback of HD media.

• Added a pop-up menu to the Internet plug-in that allows movies to be saved from within the browser.

Damn! Just 3 days after I paid for it too.

Wow, thanks for this news! This is amazing and really works! Remember to do a Get Info in the finder on a .wmv file to change what opens it to WMV Player.app and tell it to open all those with it. Only problem is you still can't drag and drop a WMV onto the QuickTime Player dock icon, but no big deal. I'm actually more excited about this that the stuff I saw in the keynote!

Am i the only one who has quicktime crashing every-time i close the window after the movie played?

I had 1.0.2 before and this never happened. :(

And yes, i did correct permissions, etc...

Or let you apply the previous purchase price to the upgrade to a fuller featured version.

Well, it's only a £7 app, and they've given me a free upgrade to version 2, so I guess I can't really complain.

Now if CatDV would just go free..... :)

Anyone who doesn't have Flip4Mac installed yet should definitely be downloading it. It was worth every penny of the $10 it used to cost... now that it's free, you have no excuse.

Oh, snap! :D This really rocks! :)

If you already have WMP installed, do you have to do anything special when you install Flip to make sure that it gets a hold of streaming content?

Mine's crashing too. Probably a result of downloading it from Microsoft. :(

Apple has pulled QuickTime 7.0.4. I've reverted to 7.0.3 and it's all working properly again :)

Seems to be working for me (having NOT run the QT upgrade yet!). But I'm not 100% sure...I guess I need to scope out a site that definitely streamed WMV before.

EDIT: ebaumsworld has a bunch of WMVs and they seem to stream nicely! :)

damn, I already upgraded to 7.0.4 and don't want to revert back...hopefully apple will issue a fix for the continuous problem with flipformac and wmv files.
