Yeah, I think that's why Samsung went that route... durability. Huawei approach exposes the screen... reviewers and critics will focus on that aspect of it if Samsung copied that design.

I believe it... it's an impressive device. But supposedly... it's going to be global release.

Dunno it seems it will only be available in Asia. That’s oppo’s view of global

I'm just going to keep enjoying my ZF6 and tbh I use it open mostly so thinness is good enough for me, just give me a wider closed phone I'm good

Can't wait to see OneUI 7 on it.
You and me both. I would be alright if Samsung would at least show us what to expect on the Z Fold series… how the notifications will look, new Quick Panel. The changes to the taskbar, maybe how the NowBar will look on it. What about changes to the Lock Screen or Home Screen… supposedly landscape orientation will look different.

But so far, we haven’t seen any of it.

Ahhh… it’s odd how it says it’s a global launch yet it’s limited to Asia.

Did anyone get a Surface Duo when they were available? I was thinking of picking up a used one off eBay.

No, and why!!??

/s

I had the chance to demo one for a week. The product was interesting, but I didn't feel it was anything more than a public R&D experiment. I assume / hope the software was updated after we had early production demos with my employer, but in the early releases the software was super buggy.

Would be neat to have in the tech collection though!

I saw videos on how buggy the software was early on. But the form factor (or something close to it) intrigues me for some reason. It is like having a folding iPad to some degree.

Thoughts ? Slimness and downgraded cameras ?

Which camp you in?
I wouldn’t call it a disappointment… because I don’t think camera should be a focal point when looking at a foldable phone. When I want to take some good quality photos… I have a dedicated camera for that purpose.

IMO, the reason to have a foldable phone is the 2-1 factor… unfolding to have the tablet experience and folding to place it in the pocket. Anything else is just gravy, do I desire flagship quality camera in a foldable? Absolutely. But it’s not a make or break kind of situation.

Because again… having flagship camera technology in a foldable comes the ridiculous cost of it which follows the criticism of the cost.

But would you take the downgrade as Oppo did supposedly to get it slimmer ? Although new reviews are not in it seems will be a downgrade camera from previous foldable

Thinner and weighing less is always the game when it comes to technological advancements. If slimming results to downgrading the camera… I don’t have an issue with that.

What are your thoughts?

If no choice I would take the better form factor but sometimes feels like the cut cost and I'm okay with paying more for upgrades

Thinnest wins as it's simply one of the best headliners you can have

Apple mac-books would never been as successful without the worlds thinnest laptop airs , even though there were better and lighter laptops out there by OEM's like Sony Z carbon fibre series that were just 2mm thicker at the fatter point.

There was also a lot of over criticism on folding something makes it fatter to fit in your pocket which was a load of BS IMO as people have been folding things like your dollar bills for the last 60 years

Because these would never catch on and just a fad etc etc and everyone chooses to keep their bills flat like a slab phone, a solution looking for a problem .................. not LOL

Same as every critic has now become a fatigue expert and ignores the fact that buildings, bridges airplanes etc etc all flex and don't break after 3 months or the 1000's of moving parts in our cars should worry us to death and really we should be walking :D

It's almost a shame that Samsung did not evolve the folding tech sooner and stop the larger format slabs from becoming common place

As for camera's I believe the vast majority of users put the subject matter 1st (eg this me and my friends getting smashed, hear's our cat or kids of grandchildren etc) these shared images are glimpsed at and the majority are not pixel peeping on critiquing image quality.

I agree many will assume by paying more for your phone you should expect a certain level of features and maybe the N5 is a bit sub par but given as we have seen with the Fold special addition how much the price jumps for adding more premium hardware there is a balance to be had on pricing yourself out of the market demographics

Everyone moans and want's more for less, which is simply not realistic and if having the best looking foldable currently available means some compromise have to be made to keep to a price point I think it's understandable and one that many will accept as the WOW factor is strong with this one :)

I'm dissapointed but I get it. If you want a foldable in your pocket you want it to be thinner and more compact. Cameras even with one plus open weren't better than slab phones so why not make it thinner

Availability is what has annoyed people more than cameras I feel.
Yes indeed make it available

I know many are that annoyed who are now just waiting on fold 7 for this reason

If fold 7 gets the same outer and inner display as fold SE people will just buy that now.
I understand not releasing in the US… given the tariffs, but not sure why avoid Europe. I’m guessing the foldable market is not showing enough demand in Europe?

Can you imagine a foldable without a port...so wireless charging only. The most minable back camera similar to an iPad if you will.
I wonder how thin that device would be?

Sooner or later this will happen. I don't might it IF it reaches at least 80 watt.

Think the cost it would cost oppo to sell it is quite high. That's aside from the retail cost
