That did come off slightly wrong, didn't it~
For example:
If someone is having a problem and I happen to be able to help, cool. If there's news about whatever topic, cool. There are any number of things that are worth posting about. You getting a new mouse is not one of them. I (and I assume other people as well) want to help people with problems, give advice, get advice, and things of that nature, not wade through a bunch of people posting identical threads about how their new computer is coming tomorrow.
If 1/3 of your email was spam, would you prefer to just not open them, or block the sender?

Point duly noted and point in to magic siggy editing beam~

Unfortunately for me, 2/3 or more of my email (the stuff that makes it into my Inbox that is, I don't even want to get into the Bulk I happen to get) IS spam. And I can't block them all because they are sent from different addresses. Therefore, I just don't open them, kind of like threads with topics I'm not interested in.

My pet hate would have to be poorly titled threads I'm forced to open, like this one.

For The Love Of God Please Stop

I had no desire to read or participate in this thread but the stupid drama queen title forced me in, so :p

Honestly, these types of threads don't bother me. I'm appreciative of the positive enthusiasm and welfare of others. (Albeit, with a bit of envy)

Negative people upset me. :(

I have to agree with the OP's point (though, maybe not his method). ;)

In fact, I'd say "I just got my MB/MBP" threads rank right up there with all the threads about when the new MB/MBP revision will be, threads speculating MBP delays, and my personal favorite (combining the two to get), the "could the delays be a MBP update in the works?" threads.

It's really not that the topics bother me, as much as the disorganized format of each individual posting yet another thread only adding to the clutter and making the forum more difficult to use. :(

Many of these topics have been discussed and can easily be found by searching or perusing through the stickies/guides. But we's on da internetz, cyberspace of the free. Ain't nobody and no rulez gonna keep ME from e-littering if I damn well please.

Check out this thread: Has your SR MBP shipped yet?. Great thread!!! One consolidated place to go to discuss how orders are going out and being received. This thread is over 80 pages and has likely kept from ~80 other threads on the same topic from being produced adding to the mess. ;)

How about single thread for those that just got their new MB/MBP and want to shout it from the roof tops? :apple:

The point is that I would like to have quick access to the topics I care about, without the whole "wade through a sea of I GOT A NEW COMPUTER YAY ME! based spam.

Then why don't you use the search. That way you only have to wade through the remotely relevant stuff.

Vbulletin's search is awful.
Anyway, I agree with the op. Those types of threads are annoying and stupid. I think they should all be merged into one "I'm getting/I got a MB" thread.

Please, please stop making threads saying something like "Getting my new MBP tommorow :D!!!!!!"
No one cares.
It's a waste of time and bandwidth, not to mention it's irritating.
Thank you for your time~

Wow. You're clearly a long-time visitor to the forum as well...

Go away.

i have to agree with the OP. the "my new mac is arriving tomorrow" should be in the community forums and not in hardware or buying advice forums. but i will look into canadaRAM's suggestion and block some stuff.

unfortunatly with this post i bump this thread up on the hardware list...:(

Its a big investment for some people, maybe they worked a year or more to get one, let them have the joy of telling everyone they have it!
How is it hurting you???? I have never posted a thread when I got mine, however I do post often about the yellow issue.

Dont read it, period.....

Censorship stinks...

Sometimes I enjoy reading those types of threads.

It reminds me of when I purchased my first Mac (MacSE) back in 1986.

It was an exciting time converting to the Mac from DOS. ;) :p :D

Well this thread sure was a waste of my time....glad I clicked on it .

I would've have much prefered to read about a happy consumer and their new Mac purchase.

allison.

I don't mind the posts at all. I'm very happy when people get their first Mac, I got my first MBP in July. It's an exciting thing.

I did the same thing when I got a new car last year, I made a post saying I got one on a forum dealing with my car make. A few people responded and those who didn't care, didn't. People still post a new thread when they get a new car there, it's an exciting thing for them and I would never dream of taking away that excitement from them.

I hate negativity on forums. I'm getting very upset with the Apple discussion forums because people jump all over other peoples posts and it's getting worse. Don't let that happen here.

Enjoy.

Well, you opened a right can of worms here, freeedge! Reminds me of my dad: he used to start a "discussion" at work in the canteen about something a bit controversial and then sneak out as it was heating up! :D

What's the problem with just posting in one thread? Shouldn't take away their excitement or joy. But it would help in making the forums tidier.

Because then those threads get in the way of the six hundred threads about yellow MBP displays, the four hundred threads about which displays are SIPS and which are TN, the three hundred threads about the evolution of Apple's "consumer," "professional," and "prosumer" branding, the one hundred threads about being pissed that Applecare did not order you takeout on the days when they had your MBP, and the fifty threads asking how much RAM the user needs? :p

We're a family... people get excited when they join the family. Let them savor the moment. :)

Here's an idea... it may work.. it may not.. your results may vary:

Don't click on the links that you dont want to read.

Works for me.

He said he didn't want to have to wade through them. He never said he read them so your point is null and void tbh. He just wants to get to new and exciting topics quickly and easily.
