I really want to upgrade because of the content blockers, but 8.4.1 runs so smooth for me. I'm going to be really pissed off if I start seeing Android type lag on my 6. I think I'll wait until my friends do it first and see how it runs on theirs lol
Or do it now while you still have time to go back to 8.4.1.

its a real thing. Though the indexing should be low priority, Spotlight indexes need to be rebuilt when ios updates add needed data to their schema. IOS9 introduced app-level indexing as well, so possible apps can interject into the slowness of the indexing process. It could be downgrading does not impact if ios9 only added indexed items. I don't know why 8.4.1 did not need to re-index.

As an aside, I have much faster response in 9 than 8.4.1, not sure what you are seeing or why. Could be app backgrounding or something? My ios 9 is significantly better.
What device? And have you tried/compared 9.1 by chance?

but this happens every year tho ios gets better after .1 this is why 9.1 beta was released so fast

You will get different scores but not by significant margins.

There wasn't a significant margin in your scores either. A difference of up to 20/30 points on each side is easily obtainable depending on what's happened/happening on the device at the times it's run.

Your two scores are proof of nothing I'm afraid.

I've rolled my 6 Plus back to 8.4.1. I set it up as a new phone, queued up about 60 app downloads, its indexing, iCloud syncing and it's STILL SIGNIFICANTLY smoother than ios 9 ever was.

Exactly. Downgrading (upgrading) to iOS 8.4.1 feels fluid right out of the gate.

Do you think Apple turned down the processor and graphics speed to conserve battery on iOS 9 (even when low power mode is off)?

Interesting idea.... Perhaps.

All those FPS require computing power which requires battery... Code can only fix things to an extent. At some point you need a faster processor and RAM. Now where can I find that?.........................................................................................

Areas that lag for me on my 5S are as follows -

Control Centre - this makes no sense given it never lagged on iOS8 - makes you wonder if it was done on purpose (forced upgrades) or just a bug

Settings can be a bit jittery when scrolling (although, this happened on iOS8)

I noticed sometimes you activate the app switcher from within an app and the app switcher animations are jittery (but not jittery if you open app switcher from home screen... so that's weird).

Weather app still low FPS when collapsing all the cities into view (has been since iOS7)

I get the feeling Apple have put in a sort of CPU governor like Android uses, because sometimes you can open lets say settings, and it'll feel a little jittery then be smooth again - as if the CPU is ramped up dynamically.

Battery life seems better, but still kind of poor (now you can see screen on time the reality of the iPhone battery becomes apparent). Usually I'd be at 45-50% when I get home, but now it's around 60-65%.

Overnight battery drain is less - I usually charge my phone to 100% and use it before I sleep. 100% to 99% was after 45 minutes of AlienBlue Reddit app, then overnight it went to 98% only!

Saying this, some areas of the phone seem way smoother - in particular inside apps.

Apples hollow promises...again.

There isn't a single iOS 9 feature I care about. Heck, I wish I was still cruizing on iOS 6 on my iPhone 5.

iOS 8 on my iPhone 6 & iPad Air 2 until I buy a new iPhone & iPad. Probably in a few years.

No lag from me. At all. Came from 8.4.1. Just posting this for the record. I don't care if you believe me.
