I was secretly hoping that the leaks were not right and Apple might "surprise" us with the iPhone 5.

Now that I've learned it's pretty much the same ol', same ol' (minus the nice looking exterior), I will consider the following phones in the next few months:

-New Nokia (yellow or red please!)
-Sony Xperia T looks pretty sweet
-The likely new Galaxy phones to be announced in a few months by Google

I'll probably just upgrade my iPhone 4 to iOS 6 and wait a year to see what is released next fall. I'm underwhelmed with the iPhone 5, and changing to the new power adaptor without any increase in speed seems ridiculous. I fear this is the beginning of the end for Apple's dominance in the smart phone market (I desperately hope that I'm wrong about this).

I agree the iPhone 5 is walking a tightrope now until the next release.

I'll be sticking with my Galaxy Nexus until it dies. For $350 without a contract and with decent performance to boot, how could you not like it? With prices for service on unlocked phones being more than reasonable (if you have coverage with T-Mobile, that is, I pay only $30 a month) and an active rom scene at XDA, your best bet is to pick up a widely supported handset and just keep upgrading your rom, or until you completely trash the hardware with daily use over a few years.

Personally, I buy something that I plan to hang on to until I run it into the ground (like my '92 Saturn SL2 [380,000+ miles when it died], bought an '05 Cobalt in 2008 [currently has 107,000 or so miles]) or it becomes so obsolete that my company demands that I upgrade (like with my BB Pearl 8120 [got that bad boy on release day, work dropped support for all BBs in early '10, still works though], upgraded to Nexus One in Feb '10 [died], upgraded to GN in June '12).

Things I can do without: spec-whoring, fanboyism, and throwing money away on toys. Seriously, the e-prick waving should have died a few years ago....

Will probably pick up an S3 today. I'm on Verizon so I don't think the Note 2 is going to be an option and I've only heard bad things about getting a Nexus on Verizon. Unless there is a better phone coming out in like a week that's my choice.
