For those who ordered the ATI 4850....

I'm throwing this thread amongst the many that are like it, but I'm hoping only those who ordered the ATI 4850 will respond. I'm starting this thread to keep up-to-date with shipment notifications. Some dude in another thread stated his shipment with the ATI 4850 is set to ship within 3-6 days and he posted picture proof. While I still have my doubts I would like to see if everyone who is still waiting will keep their wait time up-to-date in this thread so some of us can keep track of their own shipments a little more closely. Thanks.

BTW: Mine is Ships: Apr 15
Delivers: Apr 17
 
More than picture proof, the guy originally posted a link to his Apple order page. He wised up and changed it to a screen grab, but it was actually saying what he said it was.

This is so frustrating, I've ordered from Dell in the past and it only took them 2 days to ship my BTO order. I don't see why a video card should delay it so long. and the 10.5.7 argument dosn't hold water since people who ordered 4875's have started getting there Mac Pro.
 
I ordered the 4850 in my new 3.06 GHz iMac and it ships around the end of April. I really hope they move that date up as well. Also, does anyone know why the delay ??? Are they just making the 4850 or what ?? I asked at the Apple store and they didnt seem to know.

Apple usually gets some hardware before companies release to general public.

do you know what the delay is?

But if you order now you may receive it sooner then expected, that happens a lot. I know we have had a lot of orders being placed for it. So that has pushed it back

The shipping dates are always subject to change, but there is no way I can guarantee you that you will get it sooner. But that does happen a lot.

just to give some hope...

i have to wait till 23rd of april :(
 
Yeah, I REALLY hope the order times drop. Mines set to ship on the 15th April and deliver by the 20th.
I don't know if I'll survive the wait. I even had to get an order tracker for my iPhone so I can continue to obsessively check when I'm out. It's really not healthy as I'm dreaming about it being shipped! Please let it be soon

First, the other guy with the March 12 delivery date has disappeared and if it were the case he would be raving about the iMac... I asked him to show us the FedEx shipping confirmation and he never did so one must assume it was an error.

I had to call Apple again today about another order and inquired about my iMac order with the 4850 as she seemed pretty helpful. She put me on hold and came back and said she talked to her manager and they believe it is because the card is new and not yet ready to ship. I told her as far as we know the 4850 has been out for awhile. She did say Apple was pretty tight lipped and did not provide much information so I assume it was speculation on their part.

One day we will all be surprised when the status changes..... Until then the speculation continues and provides us with something to do while we wait.
 
I ordered the BTO, with the 4850, on 3 March; my order status hasn't changed since: ships 14 April, receive 15 April.

well the UK store just clicked over to a 3-5 weeks waiting time on new orders which really points to a set release date for around mid april, rather than the order backlog story some people have been given over the phone.
If they have a set date, maybe it is just waiting for something to be finished, and then we can hope its done earlier than expected.

Things are quiet here... We are moving down on the list..:eek: I noticed that yesterday when I was checking on something else. My bet is still on 10.5.7 but still do not know why the Mac Pro with ATI card ships with a special version of 10.5.6.... and they could not do the same with the 4850, which could mean I am wrong...:rolleyes:

Sadly, it looks like his early date was in error. I had saved the link he posted to his order to see when it would actually ship. It was supposed to go out yesterday-today, but it looks like his order got changed back to April 17-20. Much as it got our hopes up, I'm sure he's crushed, having had a week of thinking his computer would be here within a week.

Anyhow, I'm hoping for a slight push forward. I'm alright waiting a month for a better video card, but I've got my fingers crossed to have it in before April 10. Every day is a exercise in restraint to not cancel and drop it to the GT130.

10.5.7

I too have seen a lot of speculation that the hold up is down to the release of 10.5.7. Hopefully that wait is getting shorter faster than expected, and now the next seed of 10.5.7 has been released to developers with a small list of known issues it looks like its not too far off.
The waiting is sooo hard! :D
 
I ordered mine though an apple seller here in canada called westworld computers. so i didnt get any tracking number to see when my computer would arrive. hearing that it probably wont be till the mid to end of april really blows!! :( i ordered mine on march 4, is there anyone who ordered the same day as me who could tell me maybe when they are expecting theirs, just to give me a better idea what time im looking at here... dont know if that would even make a difference or matter im sure location also comes into play. hoping it comes sooner then later!!!
 
A month or more is too long to wait for an ordered computer.
If Apple wasn't ready to ship these new iMac's then they shouldn't have made them available on the Online Store. :mad:

Because Apple is not shipping them to anyone until whatever is holding up the shipment is resolved, be this 10.5.7 or other reason unknown to any of us including Apple Support people. :confused:

I ordered mine on March 4th as well, at around 9:30am, so nice and early :). Mine is due to ship on April 15th at the moment, due to be delivered on or before 20th (shipping options weren't available.
Thats here in the UK, so looks like its universal. :rolleyes:

Well, the only thing we seem to know is that Apple doesn't write the ATI drivers for OS X, but they do write the OS X drivers for Nvidia.

This would seem to be the most likely reason for the hold up. The driver's not ready yet.
 
Maybe the delay is due to the 4850 being the full desktop version? ..... so they need a little redesigning to fit the card in and give it enough cooling?? :confused:
 
Just placed an order for my very first Mac and I got the ATi card. My shipping date is April 27th with a delivery date of May 1st :( Bummer that I gotta wait that long.
