Ordered mine 7th march

Est delivery 1st May!!!

What's going on?

My 1st Mac ever by the way

Apple has not yet released the BTO with the 4850 ATI card and site still shows 3 to 5 week estimate for shipping.... As mentioned no one knows the reason for sure..... Latest seed on 10.5.7 (often sited as needed for 4850) was this past weekend. Once that is released, we will know if that was the holdup or not..... In the meantime..... read the forums and enjoy..... I:apple:

hay guyz.

stop complaining of waiting so long, I've been having to wait the longest since I clicked the order button! :p
(see post #24)

I really can't wait any longer. This will be the first mac ever I put an order on. It's been almost three weeks and the hope it will be shipped earlier is almost gone. I have to admit I bought the iMac on an impulse. If it's an impulse buying, I expect it to ship sooner rather than later. Otherwise, I will consider more and then come to a point that I can't justify the purchase with the time, money spent.

Opting for Nvidia chips isn't an option because I lost confidence in their hardware and driver quality long ago. My Dell M1300 died once because of Nvidia's hardware failure fiasco last year. It appears to me that there are still many problems around with the Nvidia chips and drivers on Mac.

Apple is really testing my patience...

Patience is a virtue..... You will be pleased with your choice. I too was anxious at first but now I have resigned myself to a potential April delivery.

Such a long wait (2 months)

I must also add after reading many posts here it helped me to decide on the upgraded card. This process took a week in itself convincing Apple to send me this configuration at no extra charge,I guess i'm kinda lucky the thing sh*t itself as i have read many things about the previous Imac's having logic board issue's. Now i join the masses of waiting people and this forum, thanks for the help and info i have gained.
Will keep popping in and out from time to time.

At this rate, we may be far enough in the product cycle that it may be best to wait for the next refresh! :D

reason as to why the custom orders are taking so long,as told t me by Apple rep

The reason i was given was the custom configurations are being made out of this country (USA)
That is all i got from them??????

That doesnt seem like the real reason to me. When I bought my Macbook Pro it was shipped straight from China (Custom config) and it only took a week.

AMD is almost ready to release the RV790 chipset. I'm wondering if the 4850 in the iMac is a new version based on the RV790 rather than the one released last year. It would explain why we are waiting on video card that was initially released in June last year.

I'm surprised I have not seen more of this speculation. I've wondered this myself. If it is a version of the newer RV790 it's going to be a more than significant upgrade from this GT 130. At the end of the day I fear that would just be to "cutting edge" (for Apple at least) and leads me to believe they are simply waiting for the next rev of OSX.

You know there are four things that are really upset me about this.

1: The same thing happened with my iPhone, I ordered it right away and I didn't get it till four weeks after the launch.

2: They decided to sell the iMac as available now when really they should have been upfront and said it was a preorder.

3: They won't say what the delay is.

4: Worst of all. After it finally ships it's going to take a week to arrive, haven't they heard of overnight couriers?

They do not really know or cannot tell and hence the various answers we get when we inquire as to why there is a delay in shipment....

Overnight to Aussie land for a 15 Kilo computer is expensive. Are you sure it wasn't an option at your own expense when you placed the order?

Wait, overnight to Aussie Land, I thought that Apple shipped in Australia from a DC in Sydney. Still if they keep there ridiculous time table it will be shipped on Friday 17th April. You can easily get a package from anywhere in the world to Australia by the next business day when you have a weekend in between. EDIT: Wait isn't Friday the 17th a public holiday for Easter.

Most Apple products that I've tracked have shipped directly from China, if, in Australia they ship to a distribution center first I would be surprised (but I suppose it's possible).

You are also missing the point here. Standard shipping probably costs Apple $50 since they also purchase insurance.

If they bumped this up to overnight, regardless of how "fair" it is to get the box in your hot little hand a couple of days earlier, it would still increase the price quite a bit (probably at least double it).

This cuts into their bottom line, so they aren't going to do it. If they do offer faster shipping they are going to expect the consumer to pay for it.

Reason given for delay: Awaiting new logic boards which will accomodate the 4850. Asked specifically if it was awaiting new OS modifications. Maintained reason as noted.

The real reason for delay

I also thought maybe a possibility might be the newer os or logic board changes for the new card.....But wait this just in>>>>>>>>
Meanwhile somewhere in a remote shed in china four techs are working on getting all of our computers out to us ,One at a time.;)

New logic boards, come on, is Apple some small tiny company or something that can't design more than one thing at a time.

Still at least it's a reason and it means we are not waiting on a 9 month old part or the next version of OSX but rather a new part Apple should have already had some guy working for pennies a day in China make.

Ordered: 7th March (?? or somewhere within a day or 3 of there)
Original Delivery date: 7 April
New delivery date: 31 March
Destination: Australia

I'm not sure how firm this new delivery date for me is as I can't check the order status myself. I purchased mine through a university reseller who is tracking my order. I rang up yesterday and told me the new delivery date although I'm not sure if it's delivery or shipping but the guy said "delivery date".

I'm hoping it's the delivery date because that means I'll have it next week!!

Unless the guy is a compelte moron and got March and April/May mixed up.

On another board, person said that he ordered on March 3 and called yesterday and was told it would be another 3 to 4 weeks before shipment. Reason..... Waiting for updated drivers for 4850 and release of 10.5.7...

So, I say again, no one at Apple seems to know or can tell us the real reason for the delay. We will just have to wait...
