........Cant we all just get along!!!!

I have never been a huge fan of Apple, but I have had my iPhone for almost a year and I am having a blast with it.:D My problem is, as others have said, AT&T. I live in NJ and my 3G here is outstanding. We went to New York State this past summer and my phone couldn't get a signal, let alone 3G. My daughters Storm on the Verizon network was active w/3G and a great signal the whole trip!! I hope Verizon can wrestle the iPhone onto their network, but if they can't we will be a two-network family!:(

Creating just an equivalent would be easy. The hardware isn't unique, and the iPhone's UI is very simple, which is why it's popular.

Normally kdarling, I agree with you.

I don't agree that the hardware wasn't unique (at least in 2007). This slim a package for a smart phone, capacitance screen, proximity sensor, multitouch, etc. Combined with a functional onscreen keyboard - it has everyone chasing Apple.

I think several phones have tried to recreate the magic (Instinct comes to mind).

Like you know, it is the complete package (hardware & software (embedded & iTunes)) with content and ease of use that continue to drive this success. Now ordinary folks (i.e. soccer moms, students) will purchase what they wouldn't have touched years ago.

If you want some entertainment, read his older posts.

The guy brags about doing drugs, getting drunk, and porn on the computer. Always rolling his eyes and sighing.

If you look at October's posts, he wants to break his contract with AT&T and sell his iPhone. He asks us what he should tell AT&T.

On October 26, he says he loves iPhone technology. The rest of the post is pretty funny, too.

On October 21, he is upset that everyone has an iPhone now. He said, "I want to feel like I own the most amazing, advanced and expensive device on the market."

Then he says that he wants to replace the iPhone with a "cheaper/different phone."

I think he may just be the perfect candidate for a Droid.

The Droid has great marketing... I will give it that. Thats the first step to succuess... the second is have a decent phone that can produce what it claims.. This we have yet to find out. Verizon is way over due for a solid and powerful smartphone. They have the blackberry but the storm was over hyped and it just became annoying cuz it had/has to many glitches

But I really do feel that if Motorola doesn't get this one right, the days of Motorola will be numbered! Their phones might look decent but run poorly.

Yup. Palm Pre didn't even increase Palm's market share one bit.

Good luck with iPhone competitor of the week while we enjoy the best consumer and business phone.

Study: iPhone leads in satisfaction for consumer, business smartphone users

When was that data taken? It was pretty much void as soon as it was published. Technology moves fast, keep up.

Wrong statement.

A better one would be to point out that Sprint is a much much smaller network than AT&T and that servery limited the in roads the Pre could of made. Considering that Palm was able to hold 7% is saying something with the Pre considering it was limited to network a lot smaller than AT&T and Verizon. real question on the Pre will be if it and when ti comes to Verizon how it stacks up.

As for the OP he has a point. The iPhone since it was released had not really added anything. So far the list of things add minus the compus has been things that should of been on the phone on day 1. (MMS, Voice controls, 3G) but of the big things (MMS, Voice controls and 3G) all should of been on the iPhone on day 1 not years later.

Everytime you ask the question what has the iPhone added since its release the answer is hardware this hareware that but hardware does not really matter as that is just moving with the time. Nothing impressive. New features to the game table the answer is nothing.

Another iPhone user looking for some attention. Well here you go...

You are making a awesome decision. The Droid is sure to be a life changer. Everything with iPhone that has diappointed you will soon be resolved. You get to go back to, or join the great service and coverage at Verizon. They truly care about each and every customer, especially those that have left their biggest competitor, AT&T/iPhone. All the best to you.

It's great to have choices. Knock yourself out, as well as any others that don't like the iPhone. NO ONE is forcing you to use it. YOU SIGNED THE AT&T CONTRACT!!!! NO ONE FORCES YOU!

These posts get soooooo old. As do all the "I hate this about Apple/Mac" posts. Don't use the product(s). Go buy product X, be happy, and enjoy.

Creating just an equivalent would be easy. The hardware isn't unique, and the iPhone's UI is very simple, which is why it's popular.

But no one's tried to do that. Instead, they've all been trying to create something more powerful, but still easy to use, and that's been the stumbling block. (Although I think the Pre comes closest, if they'd just make the screen larger.)

couldnt have said it better myself....rather than trying to keep it simple...they're trying to make complexity meet simplicity to one up the iphone...still no luck on any carriers part, but the pre is pretty nice

Could somebody translate this into English, please? I have no idea what this paragraph means.

I sold mine - Apple needs to reinvent themselves with the old iPhone technology (yes, I called it old cuz it is - they can dress it up nicely but it hasn't changed much since the first iPhone). The problem with Apple is they rest on their laurels while other companies actually innovate and introduce new things.

Droid, here I come!!!!!! :D

Alright, so you were an AT&T customer and you dropped the iPhone for which AT&T compatible Android device? The new Motorola Droid is Verizon only at the moment, and the G1 doesn't support AT&T 3G, so which device do you plan on using?

And Apple doesn't need to reinvent themselves. The BEST way to lose customers is to constantly change the UI on a phone. Non nerds hate when companies change UI's just for the sake of being new. Just look at why Vista was a flying success. The massive UI overhaul played a big role in the desire for people to stick with XP.

I thought the Droid was going to be really cool until I saw this picture:

That keyboard looks impossible difficult to manage for someone with even moderately large-ish hands, and what's with the little mouse/joystick/trackpad on the right?

Android 2 looks great, but this hardware looks...lame.

Compare that to this:

g1keyboard.jpg

The G1 keyboard is amazingly easy to type on due to the space between the keys, full number row on top, and the texture of the keys (at least on my G1 dev phone).

Have fun with that.

Only the truly hardware-ignorant people would think the iPhone 3GS is just a few minor changes to the prior iPhones.

lol. only the truly hardware-ignorant people would think macs are worth the price you pay for them!

It's so-so marketing at best, but as with all smartphones launched since 2007, I compare their launch campaigns to Apple's, which was as simple as it could be - no-one sitting in a field :D, no distracting scenarios and not saying what the rivals couldn't do(Yes, I know Jobs compared rival devices, in the keynote, and of course the similar thing in the Mac v PC ads, but I'm talking about the iPhone ad campaign).
They actually compared the iPhone to the iPod, not any rivals.

They were and continue to be so simple and uncryptic, that even the Average Joe can at least understand it.

If anyone one is in the NYC area there is a Droid phone giveaway going on right now in the south end of Union Square. People are lining up in front of one of those claw machines that reaches for a case that possibly contains a coupon for it. The line was too long for my taste--and I already have an iPhone anyway, but I'm told one in three people are getting a free Droid. Not bad odds if you've got nothing to do this afternoon.

Those claw machines sure have come a long way since I use to play them. I was at a new mall recently and saw that they have PSP's and iPods in them as prizes. I was like, WTF? I remember coming across one that was filled too high with plush toys. I tipped it over just enough for a bunch of them to fall into the dispenser. I think I was 13 years old. I was trying to impress some girl, but she probably just thought I was an ass :D

The Droid is a great device, and will probably enjoy some measure of success. That being said, you're buying it for entirely the wrong reasons. Enjoy!

I am also going to Verizon. I will get the droid because it will be the "coolest" phone out on that network. But I am switching basically because ATT service is terrible. I dont mean call quality, I am talking about data. I cannot get 3G anywhere with ATT, and the internet is terribly slow. So yea here I come Verizon. Also if you check 9 to 5 or appleinsider, Verizon should be getting the iphone eventually in 2010 when ATT contract is up.

Going on a month of using a Verizon MiFi. Verizon is not everything it's cracked up to be. In the places I have been in 4 different states. I have had overall less sign eland either fantastic or terrible throughput. Ymmv.

I switched from an unlocked iPhone 2G on T-Mobile to a MyTouch 3G, mainly because switching to AT&T was not an option and not desired. Well after a couple months with the MyTouch I'm now looking for a used iPhone 3G. I'm coming back running! Having an iPhone 3G with only Edge speed on T-Mobile is worth it. I only get 3G on the MyTouch like 60% of the time anyways.

Android is great and all, but I owned my iPhone for 2 years before wanting a new phone. Now my android phone just feels like a low quality product when I compare it to other iPhones. Guess all I can say is hope the OP remains happy with his choice...
