We have some of these around the house. Not sure what they are called. The two things I would mention are: I'm not sure about the crop. It's actually a bit too close for me. Also was ISO 800 necessary to get the shot? You might get better colors at a lower ISO. I see you were at 1/30 though so that probably explains the ISO.

Welcome to the forum and nice pics. My favorite of the two is the top one. I like the composition.

This is the statue in front of the Smithsonian Museum of American History. Taken yesterday at 50mm with my 18-200 (with some cloning in Aperture for fun) while we were waiting for the museum to open. Don't know why the thumbnail looks so compressed. (maybe because it is?:))

Beautiful model with lovely lighting but I think I'd straighten the background

Difficult shot but I think I'd like to see everything in focus or the church more out of focus.

Like what you trying to do though - oh and welcome to the forum/thread.

Fine - damn fine - how is this supported in life?

Thanks. It sits on a black granite base (maybe 15' tall) and rotates. I took the pic knowing I wanted to clone out the base and the polished post that supports the statue. I'm not that good with things like that but I knew it would be easy with the blue sky. Here's another one (at 50mm) from a different point in the rotation.

Tulips. lol

The ISO 800 was an accident.

The crop was kinda necessary cause the background was too cluttered for a good DOF.

From last night. All with 58mm on D700. I'm not sure which of the sunsets I prefer. It is a tough challenge to work with that focal length for landscapes. (clickable)

When I was a kid we had a chest just like this. It held all of the magazines we thought worthy of keeping. Thank you for the memory.

There are a lot of great shots here.

Otherwise: I have been consulting to an organization that is in serious trouble and it is all coming to a head as we speak. For the past week this has taken all of what was supposed to be my free time. I've had several nights in a row of marathon conference calls and I have to travel to Chicago this weekend. Great city. Unfortunate reason.

That was both venting and explanation for why you won't see much of me this challenge. This stinks because I really wanted this to push me into a new way of looking at things.

Sometimes certain priorities take precedence over others... I think we can all understand what that's like. Here's hoping it all works out somehow for the better. We'll hold down the fort until the air clears a bit for you... -phil

I hope using a 50mm lens on a crop body is ok with the rules. I'll be reading the first post again.
