there really is some great stuff here again - here is mine - shot through a car window on the road.

I really like the mood in this shot. Very well done. The tree on top of the hill really adds to the feeling in this. Great job.

Classic Voyage North

It's a nice shot and timed well for the light. My only gripe is there is nothing really central to the shot. Nothing that seems to be the "focus" of the image. I'm jealous of being able to be there though. Looks awesome.

Under the blue lights of the Sky Church.
Nikon D50, Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AIS, Manual focus and no metering capabilities.

I hope using a 50mm lens on a crop body is ok with the rules. I'll be reading the first post again.

Nice capture of a moment. What was your shutter speed? Was the blue light enough or was this on a tripod? You did a very good job getting his face sharp in what seems like pretty low light. Nice.

Golden Hour: The Greatest Generation

A little different take on the Golden Hour as most of these veterans of WWII are in their "Golden Hour". This was just a snapshot at the WWII memorial in D.C. when a large group of veterans where visiting thanks to the Honor Flight organization.

A moving photo and these people that gave so much should be remembered.

I had a family friend you went through the whole Second World War but never spoke of it until one day he told me some of the things he had seen. He had been on the beaches on D-day and of all the things he told me that day the most chilling was " I watched my friends die around me - I couldn't stop for them, we were told not to stop, some screamed for my help, my friends, I hoped the next bullet would be for me so I wouldn't see it all any more".

So we shouldn't forget, they gave a great deal for us.

Some amazing photos posted so far. I really want to participate more in these, as i beleive it will help/'force' me to see things differently. Or at the least, ultimately teach me something new. Anywho, here is one from my 'nifty fifty'. It seems a little soft to me, as i know this lens can do better. If i remember correctly this shot was somewhat hurried, as i was chasing my father around the car show.

Are those all 50mm shots? I like the snail shot. I like how the spiral of the shell goes with the rings of the tree stump.

I like the snail the best, too. It's at 40mm, which is close enough to the 50mm that is the Challenge for now. The others are at 250mm.

My little EXIF spy told me this...

on the boardwalk, down by the sea..., actually harbor.

I was just experimenting with my nifty-fifty on my D50 on day while on one of my "shoot the fishing boats" excursions. For some reason in the light late in the afternoon, I fixated on the cables used to make this boardwalk railing/fence... the nifty-fifty will just do that to you. Get one! Cheap, light, and darn good little optics for any camera bag...
This isn't wide open, shot at f/4. It slightly increases the depth of field, and hits a sweet spot for sharpness. But, the focal zone is still pretty narrow.

Maybe HE15MAN was submitting shots in the "golden hour" category...? But he didn't say one way or the other. At least it's not a contest, so the 'rules' can be interpreted fairly liberally (sorry conservatives... ;) )

Dale... if 48mm is the best you can muster, you did pretty good! The zone is somewhat inexact with a zoom, and we know all of us crop-sensor shooters are not going to get the same types of pics as the full-framers or film guys/girls @ 50mm anyway. To me it's more about the idea of shooting with a fixed focal length... opens up a different part of the brain.. ;)
