NO. I have already got the VOB files on my drive, and yes I used DVD Backup to copy them, but now I want to compress the movies from the VOB files which are on my drive, rather than compressing from the DVD itself - because I have heard that compressing from the DVD can damage the DVD drive because of the fact that the laser has to be on for so long, or something to that effect. The forty-two developer said that forty-two will read from a disk image, but I haven't figured out how, or what type of image to make. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I know there are other apps out there that will process the VOB files, but I thought forty-two would be nice to use since it does the video and sound all at once with perfect sync! Any help would be great. Thanks!

Wow, I have the exact same problem... and I was thinking about asking the developer if he could update it so it allows us to do that... well, anyone? If not, I'll go right ahead and email the developer...

EDIT: It seems the answer is NO.
Already Requested and Considered ideas:

VOB support- We have no plans to support VOB files.

I did email the developer and they said forty-two will read a disk-image from the drive, but I don't know what kind of image to make. I tried making one with Disk Copy and it did drag into the "well" in forty-two and seemed like it was working until about five seconds later when forty-two said the process was complete, and we all know that processing several gigabytes does not finish in five seconds, so I'm figuring I didn't make the right kind of image or I didn't use the right program to make it or something. I figure surely someone else on these forums would have experience in this.?.? Anyone have any suggestions? It would be sweet if there was some hack to get forty-two to process the VOB files without turning them into a disk image. I wonder why the developer sounds so against adding support for this. I would probably pay the money for forty-two if it would support this.

irmongoose - if you find anything more out please let me know!

Thanks, -Z
