After thinking about the upgrade program with the trade in and $650 credit over 2 years, I think I will pass. I plan on getting the 128 Plus, which costs $869. If I want to upgrade next year, I will have to pay $435 to pay off my phone at that time. So in effect, by only keeping the phone for one year, I am only getting $325 of credits for my 64 gig 6 Plus. If this was a normal year with next year just being a S upgrade, I know that I would keep the phone 2 years. With next year being a big change, I will probably pass on the 7 or buy one and sell my 6 Plus. Hopefully they have the same program next year and I will go for it.

That's a great point. Essentially, this deal is very good for those who plan on keeping the for for 2-years anyways. If you plan on upgrading next year when the 8 comes out, this deal is not that good.

I myself keep phones for 2-years. Every 2-years I get a new phone. Sure the 8 might look tempting, but at the end of the day, it's just a new phone, so I think this deal will work out for me in my opinion.

I hope I don't regret not taking this deal in 12 months and I am not that tempted by the 8; but I know I will chomping on the bit for it.

So how does the actual trade in work? Does anyone know? Like physically.

So tonight I pre-order, right? and I pay NOTHING upfront, correct?

When AND how do I hand over my old iPhone to them? I don't want to be without a phone for a few days.
[doublepost=1473374147][/doublepost]Like, do we have to send them our old phone in the mail, or can we bring into a store?

My phone is in pristine condition, so im not worried about that. I'm worried about the period from when I send it my old, and receive the new phone.

Hope this makes sense.

You send the phone to T-Mo after you get your new phone.

I'm in a slightly odd predicament.

I've been on AT&T for over 8 years now, and usually I would pay the $199 and upgrade phones every 2 years. But since things changed, I see no reason to be on AT&T, and in fact, I've been wanting to switch anyways.

The thing is, my contract with AT&T isn't actually over until September 12, 2016. (This monday).

I want to switch my phone number from AT&T to T-Mobile and hopefully take advantage of this trade-in deal, since I have a perfectly used iPhone 6, and the 7 looks great to me.

Any ideas on what I should do? Before I have to call these guys.

Thanks
I have the exact same issue. Although I already signed up with T-Mobile One plan. Just received my SIM card today. Waiting till Sept 12th to unlock AT&T iPhone 6. I will do the iPhone 7 deal. Trade in my iPhone 6 Plus 128Gb to iPhone 7 Plus 128GB. I was told it would cost $220 plus tax spread out over 24 months.

In a year I would like the iPhone 8 then most likely upgrade every 2 years thereafter.

I think the 8 is going to be outstanding. And different! Hopefully. I wouldn't lock myself into anything that prevented me from getting it next year.

What about transferring my old AT&T number?

Any idea how this will work? I'm assuming I can do this once I get the new phone at the T-Mobile store.
I am switching from AT&T and received my new T-Mobile sim in the mail. When I am ready (next week) there's an 800 number to call and your AT&T number is ported over. From what I have heard it takes only a few minutes and your number is ported. I believe they tell you it could take up to 24 hours.

What if I didn't sign up for a plan with T-mobile?

My AT&T contract ends on Monday.

I plan on leaving Sprint, to hopefully save a little money on T-Mobile. I have six iPhones with them, and have never been happy with their service.

Do I need to have my iPhones unlocked by Sprint, before I trade them in at T-Mobile? I assume they need unlocked phones???

What iPhones are they? Sprint does need to domestically unlock them in order for them to be used on another network.

Thanks for the reply. They're all iPhone 6. I was planning on unlocking them all tomorrow (since they're all out of contract), I was just curious if I could get by not doing it. It'd just save me a few phone calls.

Did anyone actually see the trade in option when they check out their iphone on t-mobile web site?I did not see it

As I also reply to this thread https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/t-mobile-free-iphone-7-trade-in-program-is-a-scam.1993426/ I almost fall for this, and I have to read it up a bit and the fine print because if something sound too good to be true, it is.

You do not get the iPhone 7 Plus 32GB Model for FREE if you trade in your iPhone 6S. Below it say...

+ $3209/mo. x 24 mos. If you cancel wireless service, remaining balance on device becomes due. For well-qualified customer. 0% APR, O.A.C. Qual'g service req'd

You will be lock in their EIP ( Equipment Installation Plant ) which you agree to pay 32.09 per month for 24 Month.
32.09 x 24 = $770.16 + $20 Sim Starter Kit = 790.16.

Buy direct from Apple with tax for the same model is $842.82.

So if you want to gave away your iPhone 6S for 52.66, then by all mean do it. But just know you can resale this for a lot higher then TMobile outright scam you on your iPhone.

I just recently left Sprint and brought my 6 over, I was going to just keep it for the year till the 8 came out, but I really need the updated bands that the new cell phones offer for the "Extender area LTE".

Not too excited for the 7 and wish I could have just held out for the 8 but was getting really tired of Sprint after 14+ years.

Thank you for posting this. My family has suffered from the same, yes, SCAM. We sent in my iPhone 5s, as well as my wife's iPhone 6. They came back to us stating that BOTH phones didn't turn on, which is ludacris. Both were fully functional. i just told them to send it back to me then, and they stated that they wouldn't because it's their property now. This is theft, and the definition of it. I will join you in a class action lawsuit. They think they can take my iPhone 5 and 6 for $0 and stick me with $1500 to pay for the new ones when promised otherwise. I don't even want these iPhone 7 now, and want a full refund under this dishonest promotion. This scam will hurt T-Mobile. I am ready for war and will see this to the end. Contact me bankbank1@msn.com to add your name if you are reading this and have fallen victim to this T-Mobile scam. Lawyers and judges salivate when big corporations like this rip off the average hard working honest citizens. T-Mobile get your team of lawyers ready. I look forward to our day in court because, exposing the truth of this scam will force T-Mobile to suffer a consequence that I look forward to getting justice for.
