My partners ipad has done this every night, except last night where he done something different.

Normally he puts it on charge over night (device turned on) and in the morning he will unplug the device before waking up the display by opening up the Smart Cover and then when the Smart Cover is opened the iPad is found to be dead.

This morning my partner did the same but didn't unplug the charger and opened up the Smart Cover where it then came to life as normal and was at 100%,he then shut the Smart Cover again without doing anything to the device/unlocking it and unplugged the charger,1 minute later he opened up the cover again and the device was dead and required a reboot.

So could it be that device shuts down if the device is charged and then unplugged before the screen is woken up and it's not doing it for some people as they unplug the device while the screen is active.

Could be worth a few people trying to use the device before they unplug it from the power.

I wish this was the case for me, I have tried both before and after unplugging on different days.

But here is my update:
3 days frozen, 4 days fine. (3 days in a row so far fine)

Happened this am. Had IPP one week. First time charged over night. Froze. Black screen. Would not hard restart. Took to store. They couldn't hard restart either so agreed to get me new gold 128gb LTE ASAP.

Then I found this thread and recognized symptoms. Tried hard restart again at home and it came on! At 93% battery strength.

Updated to IOS 9.2 beta 4, so we will see....

So today second full overnight charge--no freeze. Screen came up as I unplugged the lightning cable at 100% charged. Opened with touch. No problem. In addition to prior update to IOS 9.2 beta 4, the only thing different this time is I removed the smart keyboard before charging.

Everyone: this is FIXED in 9.2. Try the beta it be patient. I had the same issue every day. Beta install solved it.

If your iPad Pro stops responding and the screen is black
Learn what to do if your iPad Pro doesn't respond when you press buttons or tap on the screen, and the screen is black.

To get back to using your iPad Pro, force restart it by pressing and holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

Apple is aware of this issue and is investigating.

It looks like the one most important question now is whether anyone has encountered this with 9.2.

So far, nothing seems to solve it entirely on 9.1, as every tip has had people who still encountered the bug while taking the proposed action. But no one with 9.2 has reported the issue yet.

I have had my Pro since 7 hours after the pre-order can not seen this problem.

I have been leaving it on charge each night to see it it does lock up. A few points.

1. set up as a new Ipad and downloaded app via wifi
2. have not set up cell service on the Ipad pro
3. Use the smart magnetic cove when not in use
4. did a full battery discharge to shutdown the first day.

For non-developer apple account - I think under Privacy there is still a Diagnostic & usage data option.
Have people with the problem seen useful crash data or app crashing ?

In another thread it was suggesred that activating "Hey Siri" in the settings can resolve the problem as a temp fix. It has worked on my IPP so far anyway.

Pretty lame, I'm sorry but mine also freezes and this is a total joke at this price point.

Just got off a chat sessions with Apple Support. They recommend a restore to factory setting then a restore from backup. I'll try it later today and see what tomorrow morning brings.

They suggested the same for me, I did it, and it did not resolve the charging issue. I believe it's a software/firmware issue. But that's just my guess. Apple's resolution is to hard restart it every time until the next software update.

Called Apple today and they suggested replacing the device.
don't think replacing it will resolve it. i checked the apple support forums, and some people have done that, and the problem is still there. :-\ it's just such a hassle to go to the store, get a new device and reload everything. takes forever!
