Ah, my mistake. Here's the English version, then: "I am curious as to why I and/or my post deserved to be regarded with 'cynical derision'? Asgorath was friendly enough to offer his assistance and asked me to post Nvidia-related log entries, which is precisely what I did. What 'light' is it that I am not seeing here?"

Yours doesn't Asgorath continued help with everything nVidia is what is complimentary.

Yeah, I didn't take GermanyChris' comments as being directed at you, effgee. I think it was a more general statement of thanks, to which I say, you're welcome :)

UPDATE on GTX670 install for Mac pro 2009 8 core 2.93 16gigs ram 4,1 Mountain lion 10.8.2

Ok so I thought I'd just give some feedback on how my installation went.

Got my EVGA GTX670 today. Install was easy, my ATI card had two 6 pins so it was just a case of taking that card out and putting the 670 in.

Booted up and got my desktop screen without having to install any drivers.

Installed latest 10.8.2 Nvidia driver. It asks to re-boot, which I did. Mac loaded again but just had a white screen with the mouse cursor.

re-booted after a few minutes (just in case it was loading things behind the scenes). Booted up fine and got my desktop back, so not sure what the white screen was all about?

Installed CUDA and ran the steps for it to work with CS6. Everything works faster which is great.

The only issue I have is how to get my second monitor to work. It's definitely recognizing the screen space as some of my windows load off my main monitor but I can't get it to display.
There seems to be a few tutorials for Hackintosh users but I don't know if this would apply to me?

Does anyone have a good tutorial on how to get my second monitor to work. It would be much appreciated.

Again thanks for all the great info on here.

The last 2 posters both need to provide more details.

SLI doesn't work in OSX, so you mean windows?

And what version, what is it you want to do, etc?

Peterbutler needs to explain which type of displays and how he is connecting them.

The ports SHOULD work if y have installed drivers correctly.

Hi

Sorry I figured this out but my internet went down so couldn't reply.

Basically it seems that one of the monitors (HP LP2275) only works when using a cable without a a DVI adapter on it. At the moment that cable is DVI to VGA. I have no idea why that would be the case but I swapped the cables around (my other monitor had a DVI to DVI) and it works.

Thanks for the reply.

Peter

I got a EVGA GeForce GT 610 2GB, popped it into my 1,1 and it works beautifully on 10.7.5 out of the box. Still have the 7300 in driving my primary monitor but that's just fine.

Why a 610? This is primarily a work computer, don't need high-end acceleration or anything. Just needed a boost in VMWare. Success. I haz it.

Much thanks for all the advice and things in this thread. Made this pretty painless.

a 680 overclock in a mac pro 3.1

Ive read thru all the posts but cant seem to find a conclusive answer, since Asgorath writes the overclocked cards seem to draw to much power, so im wondering if its only the power that causes trouble or is there other things to consider.
But lets say i have found a 680 ( zotac geforce gtx 680 Amp ) that draws on 2 x6 power connectors. would this card work.
( excuse my bad english, im located in swedens capital Denmark :) )

hope my questions makes sense.

If the card has two 6-pin power connectors, it will work. Most OC cards have one or more 8-pin connectors, which requires an external PSU.

So I have the GTX680 in my Mac Pro and today I needed to swap some drives and install a new SSD. I was pretty annoyed not having a boot screen/menu when things went bad.

Is there any simple graphic card out there for the Mac that I can install alongside the GTX680 to be able to see the boot screen, if necessary? It should be taking it's power from the PCI bus, because obviously, my two power connectors are used up.

Thanks

OC card

So Asgorath, what u are saying is that the OC itself does not matter, only the power !

I kept my original GT 120 card for cases where I need a boot screen.

Check the first post in the thread, I discuss power requirements in quite a bit of detail.

Thanks. So you can run the GT120 alongside the other card?

I still have my ATI 5870 but I want to avoid having to swap them. I need to run two cards simultanously. Is that possible?

Thanks.

Hi there,

I've just installed a EVGA GTX 680 in my Mac Pro 4.1 (early 2009) and it works like a charm. :) I just have a short question regarding the CUDA drivers. Are they necessary for all users or only for those working with the CUDA platform?

EVGA NVIDIA GTX660 TI MacPro 5,1

This thread has been very helpful in clearing up some confusion for me. I just installed a 2GB 660ti and it was painless. The card is recognized and while I'm actively using the computer everything is perfect.

However right now I cannot wake the system up from sleep and have to hard restart if I let the system fall asleep.

The errors in the console log are (sometimes both, sometimes only 1 of the two)

12/9/12 5:19:41.000 AM kernel[0]: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! exception type = 0x20 = PBDMA Error
12/9/12 5:19:41.000 AM kernel[0]: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! exception type = 0x1f = Fifo: MMU Error

GPU Driver: 1.3.4.0 (304.00.05f02)
CUDA Driver: 5.0.37

I'm going to do some troubleshooting but if I can't get this sorted out I'm will return the card while I can and revisit this later.

Not sure. I haven't installed the CUDA drivers and everything works just fine. I am guessing they are only needed for Cuda applications.

With the CUDA drivers installation comes a small control panel tough, which might come handy for collecting information such as current driver version etc.

Only necessary if you plan on using a CUDA-enabled application, not required for simple stuff like gaming and so on.

Yeah, a few other people are reporting sleep/wake issues. Might be worth just shutting your system down instead of putting it to sleep and hope that this gets fixed by the next Apple or NVIDIA update.

Pci 2.0 / 1.0

I saw in Asgorath sticky something about Pci 2.0 does not function under bootcamp, and it defaults to 1.0. Why I'm bringing this up, is because i like to play sometimes and my question is, and i hope somebody could contribute with info on this point :

1. Would Pci 2.0 work under parallels 8.0, so i am not forced to 1.0

2. I use to look up the graphic cards on Xbitlabs.com and monitor the tests there, and they are off course testing in windows, does anybody have an idea how my frames would look compared to those tests, if i throw in a evga 680 gtx. Im thinking on going from their platform ( 3.0 ) to 2.0 or even forced to 1.0.

I'm hoping they will fix it but I knew there might be some quirks when I put the unsupported card in there. The question is if I can live with this quirk :)

In the mean time this is only an issue when I'm away from my desk for long periods of time. I guess I'll give myself more time before the computer goes to sleep and enable ssh so I can at least shutdown the system cleanly form my iPad. If I know I'm going to gone a while I'll just shut it down like you suggest.

I've got a DisplayPort to mini-DisplayPort converter coming in the mail on Wednesday and if that works I'll keep the card.

What are you using your system for? If it's just gaming, PCIe 1.0 barely matters. FWIW I was using a GTX 560 Ti for about 6 months earlier in the year, for both gaming under Mac and Windows, before I even found out about the PCIe 1.0 restriction. I did not notice at all, my gaming performance was fine under both OSes.

I had a GTS 450 that had a similar sleep/wake issue back in Lion, and so I just turned off automatic sleep. When I was done with my computer for the day, I'd just manually turn it off. You can set the monitor to power off as usual, the system shouldn't use much power when it's idle.

Does anyone know if this will work in the 2010 Mac Pro?

Should work, assuming you're using 10.8.2 and the latest NVIDIA driver. If it doesn't, you can always return it right?

Has anyone else noticed that the video feed in PhotoBooth lags when connecting a 1080p webcam? Does it in Windows 8 as well (camera app). Is it the NVIDIA CUDA driver? Does not say that the GTX 670 is compatible on the site but does mention the GT120. I suspect that some how the GT120 is running Photo Booth rather than the GTX 670. I hear FANS revving up when I launch Photo Booth. (definitely the sound of the 120). Games and everything else seems to run off the 670 though.

Reinstalled CUDA driver, don't think it made a difference. Should I just rip out the GT 120 because I don't use it. Already installed Windows and because of Paragon NTFS, I have to go into system preferences -> Paragon -> Set Startup Disk. It does not show up in boot disk because of NTFS read/write driver. Use Boot Camp manager (Apple) to restart from Windows back into OS X.
