Nice find Lou!
Question: is it possible to have a Geforce 9x0 card and a 10x0 on the same machine? Do you need to install both drivers for that? Or does the 10x0 driver know how to drive older cards?

^^^^It is! The Nvidia Web Drivers for OS 10.12.4 and above contain drivers for all Nvidia GTX cards that can be used in the cMP. Any Web Driver issued prior to OS 10.12.4 will not run Pascal GPUs.

Saw your post at Netkas. For some reason your card isn't being recognized. As was asked above, is there a power connector on your card? If it's this card:

there is a six pin power connector on it.

^^^^And it's hooked up to mini six pin "A" on the MB with the proper mini 6 to 6 pin cable?

I'm considering getting a 2006 Mac Pro 1,1 as a spare Mac, but I'm on a budget and I'm wondering if any of the GT 730 or GT 710 cards are supported in El Capitan (with the latest compatible Web Drivers for El Cap.)?

@pugdude1321 ,
GT220, 210, 730, 710, 630 etc all work in El Capitan with native Apple drivers, but performance should be a tad better with web drivers.
If on the budget, you should also consider HD5770 (maybe HD6850 too) as good performer - but they require one power cable and this is nVidia thread... :)

I have a Mac Pro 5,1 that I'd like to get upgraded. If I were to walk into a computer parts store (like Microcenter), what is the best video card I could get for roughly $500?

Apologies for treading over old ground that is probably already covered in this thread. I did try and read my way through it to find my answer but I was starting to get more confused.

Basically I'm looking for advice on the best new graphics card to get for my Mac Pro 4,1. (Running El Capitan but I'm guessing I could upgrade to Sierra if needed).

I'm looking for compatibility and best performance for both After Effects CC 2017 and Cinema 4D (R16 but hoping to upgrade from there soon).

Any help would be massively appreciated, thanks.

Jamie

I think you already study a bit, what's your idea so far?

Hello. Im sorry if this question was solved above. I cant find answer on the surface of internet.
recently i bought open box MSI 1080ti Gaming X which i wanted to put inside Sonnet egfx breakaway box 550 but few weeks ago realised that 550watt modification they will start selling at the end of november. So im in desperate mood now.
Power consumption of this card is less than 300watt on a peak. Manufacturer says it needs to be 600watt recommended.
for more info:
my needs in work with Nuke, Scratch, Davinci, Fusion, After Effects, Photoshop, Final cut
My system is mac pro 6.1 12core d500

I wonder will it have enough power if i connect it somehow?

eGFX Breakaway Box
  • Equivalent to ~600W recommended
    system power
  • One 8-pin (6+2 pin) plus one 6-pin
    power connector
  • Supports up to 300W card
  • Provides laptop charging up to 15W

eGFX Breakaway Box 550
  • Equivalent to ~750W recommended
    system power
  • Two 8-pin (6+2pin) power connectors
  • Supports up to 375W card
  • Provides laptop charging up to 87W

Pretty sure those recommendations are for total system power, i.e. so that it's enough to drive the CPU and all other components. If it's just in an eGPU enclosure, sounds like it'll be fine. You even listed "supports up to 300W card" from the eGPU enclosure specs.

Hello

Can someone please recommend a budget graphics card for my MacPro 3.1 2008 on El Capitan ?

I need it to be able to work from boot screens etc

Thanks
