Can anyone tell me if Nvidia Drivers for High Sierra are yet existing?

I had a look on their website this morning but couldn't find them yet. The last few releases have come the day after MacOS dropped, I think, so may well see them at some point today.

New Cuda Driver here:

https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-downloads?target_os=MacOSX&target_arch=x86_64&target_version=1012

It says Cuda 9.0.176, but once installed Cuda says it's Cuda 9.0.197.

Still waiting for Web Driver

Anybody taken the plunge yet? I went to do the firmware update this morning but it took ages, so I had to leave for work. When I was on the subway I noticed that my Mac Pro had come back online via TeamViewer but by the time I got to my office it was offline again. I'm keeping an eye on TeamViewer to see if it comes back online so I can remotely start the update, but this behaviour is very strange.

The real strange part is the firmware update should only take a minute

It took around 20 minutes from powering on to the TeamViewer daemon coming online. I'm not sure why it went back offline unless the machine went to sleep at the login screen, which I guess would make sense?

I successfully updated to High Sierra and the 378.10.10.10.15.114 web drivers on my 5,1 Mac Pro with un-flashed Nvidia 970.

One word of caution: If you use bootcamp with an un-flashed card there is no way to get back into an APFS formatted MacOS partition from Windows. The Windows Bootcamp utility is incompatible with APFS and can't select the MacOS boot drive anymore. The official Apple solution is to hold option and select the boot disk using the EFI boot manager but clearly that isn't an option on an un-flashed card.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do because I need bootcamp but I may end up installing High Sierra on an HFS+ partition and avoid APFS until another solution comes along.

Not sure if BootChamp (with SIP disabled) can work or not in 10.13.

Also, the boot manager is there, just you can't see it. You can still try to hold option during boot, then wait for 30s (at least), then press right arrow, then enter. If you are lucky enough, you should boot to another partition (hopefully not the recovery partition in your case) and then choose the partition you want (if not the right one, and assuming there is only one Windows on you cMP).

PRAM reset can always bring you back to MacOS, however, in your case, obviously not a good option.

Any guesses as to how long it will be before a Bootcamp update surfaces? Guess I'm staying out of Windows for a while!

e: odd, my Mac Pro just came back online and the HS installer is asking me to shut down and do the firmware update. When I started it this morning I held the power button until the tone and flashing power light.

Well, we all know the Web Driver is now issued! BUT, Cuda 9.0.197, while it worked fine in Sierra, is a NO-GO in High Sierra. So, don't bother until a later one is issued.

Lou

Well, Cuda Driver, 9.0.197, is now on Nvidia's web site, still a NO-GO in High Sierra even though it's listed with the 10.13 Web Driver. In the text however, it's listed to work with 10.12.x. So, I expect another one soon - I HOPE!!!!!

Has someone tried hevc decoding with nvidia gpus and the new driver on high Sierra ?

Afaik Apple's HEVC hardware acceleration is CPU only (Skylake and Kaby Lake), no GPU support.

However, with Iina HEVC hardware acceleration already works on macOS 10.12.6 with Pascal cards.

Cuda 9.0.197 has now been pulled fro, Nvidia's site for High Sierra and has been replaced with this message:

It's still available with the Sierra Web Driver, and as I said works in Sierra.

I dont understand how that is possible. Iina has to use apple vda afaik.

You are right. I misinterpreted the far lower CPU usage of my i7-7700K compared with my W3690 as hardware acceleration (macos 10.12.6).

I don't really know how to get in touch with NVIDIA . I'd like to see them enable HEVC acceleration, or in the worst case at least give a statement as to why it's not possible. It's unfortunate that my GTX960 (that I bought for 4K decoding) is being crippled by the driver.

Did you already try Iina in macOS 10.13? I don't know if the HEVC hardware acceleration is already activated.

Afaik Apples HEVC hardware acceleration is CPU only.

No need to get in touch with Nvidia, it's Apple's fault/decision (depends on yours POV).
Why was GTX 680 killing my ex GTX 980 in last project I did in FCPX? Also Apple to blame...

My 2009 Mac Pro running High Sierra, updated to today’s driver and PRAM reset, doesn’t recognize my GTX 980 (the web driver reports it as pci10de,fbb instead of the right name as it did under Sierra). I imagine that’s a problem with the computer being unsupported, but it was unsupported in Sierra and I had no problems!

I updated my MP 4,1->5,1 to High Sierra today. Firmware update went OK, as did the software install. The only oddity I encountered came when installing the nVidia web drivers - after clicking install, but before the computer restarted, a dialogue popped up stating that a problem was encountered during installation and asking if I wanted to continue or cancel. I chose "continue", the process completed, restart occurred, and everything worked OK after that. I am now in High Sierra running off web drivers and the system does recognize my 980 in both System Profiler and the nVidia control panel. The 980 is flashed by MVC, so maybe that is why it is recognized/described properly?
