maybe it is a better decision to buy the latest imac's videocard from one of Apple's service centres?...

_____
UPD:
omg i'm an idiot. Latest video cards are "built-in" to the motherboard)

I've heard about "flashing" it, but can't find more information about it, is it even possible for iMac?

i've got imac mid 2011 27"...
Afraid of loosing bootscreen because i'm gonna need to reinstall my windows through the bootcamp.

What can be done, MacVid?
And maybe u can suggest what MXM videocard suits my needs better?

Thanks.

Okay then, could you also please tell me if there is any way to install windows without boot screen?

This is a toughie. Dvwarehouse sells them, they are used system pulls but are still quite pricey. When there are no 3rd party options and just Apple making originals prices go up through the roof.

People should take note, the nMP GPUs will be same deal. Sky high prices, only options are picking through boneyards but paying new price.

There is a thread at Netkas about writing EFIs.

I am 90-100% certain I could do some magic but the space and time to do so aren't available.

I fixed iMacs for awhile. They eat up lots of table space.

Hi guys!

So, I have a MacPro 5,1, 2.4 octo. I was planning to get the GTX 680 Mac Edition, but checking here with you, now I'm more like to get the GTX780 PC Version.

I read the FAQ, the whole thread, but I couldn't be sure with one or two things:

1- I understood that the Flashed version will give me the boot screen in MacOSX and the PCIExp speed in Windows. That's the only difference, right?

What about the power, does it change to be able to use with the internal MacPro power supply? Or it stays the same?

2- Power Supply again. The GTX 680 Mac Edition comes with two mini 6pin x 6pin cables, the ones that I should use with MacPro.

The GTX 780 PC Version is 6pin and 8pin. The flashed version from MacVidCards comes with two 6pin cables (checked on eBay). Is it because you change it to work with 6pin instead of 8pin?

What is the right way? Use 6 pin connected in the 8 pin, leaving two holes empty, or a 6pin-8pin converter?

To MacVidCards:

I'll be in Los Angeles in December, if I get a card with you, can I get it in hand and pay in cash, live?

I live in Brazil, so its easier to bring it with me than you send it to me.

Thanks!

What's the deal with NVidia guys? Still no new web driver for Mavericks? Sure, the stock driver works just fine, but they've had a great track record of following Apple's update until now.

Unfortunately, we probably just have to be patient. The stock Mavericks drivers are WORLDS better than the stock ML drivers, but NVIDIA didn't push out web drivers until 10.8.2, so it might still be a little while.

I just picked up a macpro 1,1 from a friend, it has a defective graphics 1900xt and no harddrive, I was going to drop a 550ti in it and install lion, but lion needs to be 10.7.5 or later, how would I go about installing lion? Is there an updated installer with the drivers? Should I just buy a cheap mac supported card? Or try and flash an EFI to another card I have laying aroung, say a 9800gt I have here.

Thanks.

K, thanks for the input!

Can you not create a boot disk, either on a USB drive or dvd?

Right, I can create a flash drive with lion on it, but to get the mac to boot with a regular PC video card you need 10.7.5 or later, so I need to figure out how to do this without getting a "mac" version video card.

Earlier versions of OSX could use NVIDIA cards if you used "ATY-init" from the brilliant and talented Netkas.

In fact I'm pretty sure his little trick was the inspiration for both AMD and NVIDIA.

I used to encourage people to use it in these very boards back then.

Ah, I've never made a USB boot drive; I wasn't aware you could not make a point upgraded version.

Hi guys any update on this? I have the same qns would appreciate some help here too

I don't like 6 to 8 adapters because many of them just run power to sense pins and frequently don't have all 4 grounds connected. The dual 6 to 8 adapters that ship with PC cards can be used from one of the "6 sides, but then you literally have just 2 ground leads on that plug.

So we mod the input to balance the load across the 3 pins evenly and also connect both sense pins.

EFI'd cards will show bootscreens on any port and on a 3,1 Mac Pro enable PCIE 2.0 speed in OSX, which the driver's don't do for them.

In any Mac Pro the PCIE speed is doubled to 2.0 in Windows.

Plenty of people live with cards in PC state since Nvidia was nice enough to include self init to drivers.

Others prefer EFI cards as they are easier to troubleshoot and makes the GPU seem more a part of the machine, ie part of a unit.

Hey guys,

I'm trying to get a 9800GT working on my 1,1 with OS X 10.7.5 and the latest nvidia drivers.
Boots with no video, then continues to reboot.

I had a GT 440 in the other day and it worked fine. Is the 9800gt just too old?

Thoughts?

What about nVidia Mavericks support?

I upgraded to 1.9 and my graphics card seems to work, but the nVidia drivers arent working anymore.

With 10.8 my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 2048 MB worked well with Nvidia drivers and Photoshop CC GPU acceleration.

With 10.9 and OSX drivers Photoshop CC GPU acceleration is turned off.

Is it supposed to be so?

Is nVidia releasing new drivers for 10.9?

I have a recently gifted MP 3,1 and am starting to get it back up and running.

Have a gtx650 ti boost installed - but can't see where the PCIE speed is 1.0 as there is an error in the PCI section of profiler and the Graphics section simply says x16.

Is there any way to check?

Is the only way to get EFI on the card to send it to you MVC? i'm in the UK.

I'm curious about this too... is flashing a GPU difficult? I have read the steps years ago, and decided I was competent enough to do. Do you (MVC) or netkas offer the firmware for industrious sorts to try on their own?
