Anyone try yet?

In reading the release notes I see references to SM1.x cards listed for 6.5.36 and 6.5.37. I've Googled it, but can not find a reference to what that means. As I said I'm running my MVC modified GTX780, GK110A and 6.5.37 works.

I know that 6.5.37 was specifically designed for the GTX 970, 980. Could you explain more please, and am I using the wrong CUDA Driver?

Lou

I just tried CUDA 6.5.36 with the latest Nvidia web driver in my system, and found that CUDA was broken under that combination. Fortunately, 6.5.37 fixes everything, and CUDA works fine again. Previously I was stuck with 6.5.25 and the previous Nvidia web driver.

I am not a N user. However, AFAIK, reset PRAM will put your Mac back on native drive. You should not do this after activate the web driver.

Yes, I've tried without resetting NVRAM but the monitor is always off. I decided to return the card.. but now which one I buy without risk? Anyway thanks

If you reset the NVRAM then you revert to OS X native driver.

Can someone help me with this? If I buy a card that says it takes 2.5 slots, will I rob myself of the slot 2? Thanks!

It depends, the worst case is that the card has a thick back plate, so you can only install it in slot 2.

In this case, may be all slot 2,3,4 are blocked. And leave you only slot 1 for other card to use.

Well, that would be an awful waste of space. I want a card that will only take up the first slot and that's it. I already have the PCI-E SSD in slot 2 and I'm planning to get a GT 120 for boot screen and USB 3.0 (or 3.1) card in the future =/

I'm thinking of getting the Gainward or Palit GTX 970

So many GTX 970 are only double width. Avoid that 2.5 width one.

::pNY-NVIDEA k2200 for MacPro 4.1

hi all,

i wanted to treat my mac with a nice upgrade and thought a new graphics card would make life in 2015 much better.
i am mainly doing photoshop and prmiere pro aswell as Davinci work on this machine.
i thought i did well by purchasing a PNY-NIVIDEA K2200 for it.
turns out i cannot get my monitor to get any signal from the machine.
i have a 2009 MP 2,66MGz quadcore. with 16 GB.
i put the card in the first slot, second slot has my Crucial SSD 520 GB

i installed the driver suited for Mavericks from this FAQ and also installed the latest CUDA driver.
is there a way to get this to work and otherwise what would be the best alternative for my uses.
.thanks so much in advance and greetings from Holland

I have had a good read through this post and want to confirm something from the first page. I have a 4,1 flashed to 5,1 and want to put in a 970 to replace my Radeon 7950. Am I right in saying I will get PCIE 2.0 5GT/S if I use the Nvidia web drivers? Will this be effected at all by also having a GT120 in to get the boot screen. Thanks

Jason

Hello everyone

Did someone tried to Put TITAN Z in a mac pro (5,1 for example), There are lots of reports that TITAN and TITAN black's work with OSX with Nvidia web drivers. I wonder if those same drivers cover "TITAN Z" also ?

Just purchased a Geforce GTX 650 ti for my 2009 Mac Pro (4,1). I have a question about setup.

Is it possible to leave the original GT 120 installed and install the GTX 650 in the other slot? If I do this and hook up a monitor to both cards (dual monitors) will I be able to see the EFI boot screen on my Mac Pro from the GT 120?

Yes to both. A few years ago I had a GTX650 alongside my GT120 in my 2009 Mac Pro, and they worked well together.

For those curious about the GTX 750 Ti, I have a report for you. I was interested in this card for my '09 MP because it seemed to represent the best bang for the buck but there didn't seem to be too many people using this card in a Mac Pro. Well I managed to snag an EVGA GTX 750 Ti super clocked edition with ACX cooling at Best Buy today for a cool $140 (price matched with NewEgg). Only thing I did before installing it was to download the latest web drivers from Nvidia. Popped the sucker in and it booted in no time although the initial black screen was a little scary. This card runs so much faster, quieter and cooler than the Radeon 5770 it replaced. Do not hesitate to pick this guy up if you're running Yosemite and you need to give your old Mac Pro some new life!

Hello,
I have a mac pro 2,1 and i think its 2007 model. It has 6 GB Memory and officially supports Lion 10.7.5.

Im using a pc ATI 5870 Graphics card with Yosmeith 10.10.1
Boot screen shows and works perfect.

Im planning to get a GeForce 680 (Mac Version) to use the Adobe Premier Pro CS6 Mercury PlayBack Engine.

Can someone please tell me if the GeForce 680 Mac Version works with Mac Pro 2,1 or not? Im really confused and dont want to waste my money if it dont even work with my old mac pro 2,1!

Someone please help me or suggest me something better.
Thanks

You've come to the right thread, all you have to do now is some reading.

I have a GTX970 and a GTX750 TI, plus a GT 120 in my Mac Pro 2010. I just updated to 10.10.2, cuda 6.5.45, and NVIDIA Web Driver 343.02.02f01. My cuda app (BOINC) was not compatible with this combination. I downgraded cuda to 6.5.37, and all is well again.

Ok - I checked NVIDIA's website and found cuda driver 6.5.46 - this is compatible. I had downloaded 6.5.45 via the System Preferences CUDA pane. What a "pane"!

I don't think so!

^^^^Cuda 6.5.36 & 6.5.37 and Cuda 6.5.45 & 6.5.46 are designed to be used on different cards. But, I'm not sure what that means. I have an MVC modified GTX 780 and have used 6.5.37 and downloaded and installed 6.5.46. They both worked, but I'm not sure if I am using the correct one or not. I'm still mystified by the term SM1.x.

So what version of Cuda works with a 970, do you know?

The 680gtx Mac Edition may not work on your 2.1 Mac Pro as the Nvidia website and on the retail box says that the GPU will only work on 3,1 Mac Pros or newer. Another option would be the Nvidia 570gtx. There is this video about a Mac user installing a 570gtx on his 1,1 2006 Mac Pro https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_IVZRFNwf8
