FULL MS Exchange support coming to iPhone!?

I post this, and five minutes later, it comes through as an arn post.

Update: Er, never mind.
 
If this rings true I will get one otherwise not so much. Having exchange would allow me to dump my personal phone, work phone and ipod for 1 device.

This, combined with today's plan pricing announcement, may make Apple's 'millions of units sold' goal more than achievable. :eek:
 
All is not as rosy as it seems at first blush. First, it's Exchange 2003 or 2007. Exchange 2000 users are SOL (and there are still quite a few out there). Second, your IT group has to enable ActiveSync - it's not automatic. Third, you still require specific AS settings from your device to gain access - IT may not want to give those out based on the device connecting (such is the case I have with Palm devices. They won't allow it). Silly, but corporate IT groups can be like that.

I'm not holding out much hope for the iPhone in my own (corporate) case...

IMAP support for Exchange does not mean full-fledged Exchange support. (And apparently, ActiveSync isn't a slam dunk, either.)

Am I the only one who thinks that there's no chance Apple will pay Microsoft to license any of their proprietary systems?

EDIT: Thought about this a bit more - Apple has to license Exchange for their Mail app, right? Maybe it's the same deal.
 
No Microsoft Bits

Wouldn't bother me one iota if Apple hung a sign on every one of their large iPhone displays that read "Microsoft need not apply", and keep every single bit (pun intended) of Microsoft code out of the iPhone.

HaHa, yeah, we were joking about that. "WTF do I need the weather for on the go? Im out and about... hmm... lets check the weather... about 74 and partly cloudy? yeah, that seems right."

I understand that, but I am just curious. So to clarify, an exchange server is kinda like POP3 and IMPA except is used in the corp world?

Why NOT have a weather Widget? I check mine on Dashboard just about everyday for tomorrow's weather... so why not on the go?

Don't flame me :)

But Exchange is like the one good product that M$ makes. I'm eagerly waiting to toss my blackjack for the iphone, but I was going to miss the benefits of Exchange.

Darwen, Exchange in this implementation would sync your email, calendar, and contacts over the air. So I can be at my work computer, open Outlook and make an appointment for "iPhone @ 6pm" on my calendar and it would automagically appear on my Exchange enabled iPhone inside ical (i hope). That and all my email would sync too...a lot like IMAP.

It was just a joke. The forecast will be useful for in the morning but lets be honest, the current temp? You are going to be seeing that when you are already outside in the weather. I was just sorta poking fun at it with my buddies. Glad its there but I dont know when I am ever gonna care to check the current temp on my phone.

Nah, The Haters will find other reasons, They are not looking for reasons to like Apple Products they are only looking for reasons to hate them. It is that simple. We (as the general overall Macintosh and Alternative OS users) tend to do the same with Microsoft windows, no matter how bad our product is we will find the one thing that it does better then windows to show how bad Windows is.

Ok, cool! So its like how .mac brings computers together. Just provided by MS instead. That is pretty cool, glad to see they are adding it. Makes a lot of sense.
