I'm going to be the official guinea pig for my office of 350 employees. My CTO said that if I purchase an iPhone on my own that he'll set up the system to accommodate it. He said they want to investigate the iPhone as a possible replacement for future Blackberry purchases. I'll chime in next week to report once everything is set up.

Hi. This is a bit off topic, but I am wondering if someone can make a recommendation for an Exchange Server solution for my advertising agency. I have ten employees, all on a Mac network. I have never considered setting up Exchange but, if the iPhone supports it, I will definitely look into it. Do I get a box and license it myself, or is there a good company out there that I can get a plan through?

Also, I have heard that Leopard may have some sort of Exchange Server-style solution with calendar syncing, etc. Does anybody know anything about this? If so, it would probably make sense to hold off and just set it up on our Leopard server.

I must admit that I am don't know anything about Exchange server and how it works. Is it true that I can send and receive on my iPhone and it would sync everything with my desktop computer? I rely on my sent items extensively as a digital track record of client communications and I really don't want to have to remember what was sent from my computer and what was sent from my phone.

Thanks in advance for any advice that you all may have. Even if you could direct me to some good articles to educate me, that would be great.

you can check out mail2web which will host it for you. i'm using them for my personal account and they seem very reliable. i usually get the email on my phone before it hits my pc.

This has turned into a great post. I also get to be responsible for my wonderful newly migrated exchange 2007 server in my organization. The biggest question I have is why is Apple not letting business customers purchase the phone if they want this thing to be accepted in the business atmosphere? What am I missing. I called my rep and he said the same thing that was post back about 10 posts, not permitted for sales to business customers. We really wanted to get a unit here and test it out, just in case someone 'high up' decides he or she wants one and drops the ball on us wanting to know if it works...I want to have an answer.

Its not that they are not letting business customers buy iphones, they just won't give you a discount. Even their own employees have to purchase these phones through the regular retail channels. I am sure you can go in to the store on friday, buy an iPhone and just add the $20 data plan to your business plan that you already have.

Knowing that Exchange is a viable feature makes this positively drool-worthy for me. THis phone is directly targeted to people like me. I only get about 20-30 emails a day and of those, I only have to respond to a few with short blurbs so the keyboard is no biggie. I do send some texts but not a lot. I don't IM at all. BUT I go no where without my iPod. I have parts of my day that are considered 'down time' in the range of WIFI so the opportunity to play some tunes or watch a TV show or movie or just browse Youtube is a huge plus. Despite that, I will wait till Christmas to get one.

Oh and the weather widget is great because i can get FORECASTS.

Not having Exchange support is one of the only things holding me back. The other is the fact that the iPhone is running on AT&T's old data network. If I plunk down $600 on a phone and then 6 months go by and a new iPhone comes out that uses the faster network, I'd be a little upset.

I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but a 3rd party company just announced a pay service that provides syncing with Exchange for iPhone.

Why would they invest in the R&D for this product if Apple is bundling ActiveSync with the phone?

Can me a skeptic, but I think this report is bogus.

They don't know any more than us, maybe they're just assuming it won't have Exchange support...
