I bought mac and I tried Parallels to run Windows (http://www.parallels.com/en/products/desktop/premium/) . I may tell you from in all sincerity I've enjoyed it! I do not have to purchase extra hardware to use specific or old apps that work in certain OS. Yep, Mac has alternative progs, but why should I buy it again, if I have already bought them for Windows? It's easier to run Windows trough parallels.

Glad you enjoy it as well as I do! :)
I have a question to you. Have you already installed Kaspersky Internet Security that goes with Parallels Desktop in "premium" offer? If you have then does it drag your system?
I ask because I haven't installed it yet because when I had Kaspersky on my PC it did drag my system and it forced me to find analogue to it and I installed NOD32. I know that it mostly depends on your system characteristics but still I think some reports will help me to decide whether I should install Kaspersky or stay with NOD32.
By the way, do you use other complementary apps which go with Parallels Desktop?

MacTech benchmarked Bootcamp vs Fusion vs Parallels back in December, though the link seems to be borked at the mo. I've pulled their conclusion from Google's cache:

If you don't want Mac integration, and just want to run Windows, go with Boot Camp. It's faster than a PC anyway.

If you want a virtualization product (that allows you to run Windows alongside Mac OS X), and you want the best performance for the types of things that we tested, then clearly you need to run XP and not Vista. Furthermore, in our tests, both VMware Fusion and Parallels performed well, and were a good user experience. That said, Parallels was somewhat faster in general than VMware Fusion for XP.

If you want the best virtualization performance for Vista, then VMware Fusion is your choice. And, if you want to keep your Mac OS X and Windows environments completely separate, VMware Fusion's design may be your better choice. (And, although we didn't test it, we would expect VMware Fusion to have better multi-processor support if you really have an application that is designed to take advantage of it.) If your goal is tight integration between one or more Windows applications and Mac OS X, Parallels is the clear winner when running either XP or Vista. And, as we said before, if you want the best XP performance with the types of applications tested here, Parallels is not only faster than VMware Fusion, but it's faster than Boot Camp on average for the applications that we tested.

I have used both and am now an ardent Fusion fanboy.

I even have it on my MBAir and it works great.

The only thing to consider in my opinion is if your VHD's need to be portable.

The VHD's for Parallels can easily be moved from a Mac to Win to Linux without issues. I did have some problems moving the Fusion ones around.

That I don't understand. They claim Parallels can run certain Windows applications faster in a virtual environment than they can run natively?

Anyway, I just tried VMware which seems to be working great so far, as it can run my already existing bootcamp partition as a virtual environment. I might try Parallels as well, but for the time being I'm already happy.

I guess that would imply that some of Bootcamp's Windows drivers are particularly suboptimal and/or Parallels' drivers take some shortcuts.

I'll start from the end.. I used else Acronis Disk Director Suite of course to save my data from PC. Then I do not really understand why do I need Acronis True Image Home... It's written "Back up your entire Windows VM, including OS, software, settings and all. Choose to keep or discard any changes made to your VM!"... And what? :) Could you explain me more detailed?
About Kasperskiy, yep, I use it :) But I'm really not good at my system characteristics! It's my computer, but it's not me who install any progs - I ask always somebody! I can surely say that there is no problem with Kaspersky :) Anyway, try it!

I'm using Fusion, and it's running great for me. I have been a VMWare Workstation user for a long time, and figured VMWare Fusion would be just as good. It's pretty easy to use.

Let me just say this:

In the five years I've been using Macs since switching from Windows (Panther on PPC, Tiger on PPC [with Virtual PC to ease the transition], Tiger on Intel, and Leopard on Intel), the ONLY kernel panics I've ever gotten have come from Parallels.

I'm now evaluating Fusion before I decide to buy it, but so far it seems light years ahead of Parallels in terms of speed and stability.

I bought Parallels when it first came out. It worked great for me. The problem is that I don't use it much.

I use Fusion now. Since at work I use VMWare Workstation, I can just lug my external drive with me and everything works well.

Yes i understand your comments, its one of those issues that like i said we could write a book on the subject, but around 95% of people as a example on this site agree fusion is the better choice

95%??? :) Where did you get such statistics? I saw the results of polls on some other Mac forums. VMWare doesn't have obvious advantage over Parallels. Moreover, somewhere it stays behind Parallels.
I just want to say that when you post such statistics data, please post a link of official source where you found this info.

There not statistics(and it was a ball park figure) there just based on what ive read on this forum.take this one thread MOST people agree fusion is the better choice

take this one thread or any other on this issue from this MOST people agree fusion is the better choice

I'm sure that MOST of this people didn't ever try Parallels! :) It makes their opinion much more subjective. There is nothing to compare with.

Without letting this get out of hand but i think MOST people would have tried
both, otherwise your right, like i said in one of my posts its a subject we could
go on & on with.As always its up to the user to try both and then make his/here
mind up on the way forward

I found the following two polls on this very forum:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/421440/

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/355217/

Although Fusion is clearly favored among members here, it's far from 95%.

Ok its far from 95% but like i said it was a ball park figure and not a statistic, based on all the posts(i have read) regarding the fact that more members from this site prefer fusion to parallels, that fact remains as your links prove it

This is my 499 post anyone know of a decent place i can get some great Mac avatars from?

This, too, is debatable. Parallels is far more stable for me.

I agree that it's debatable!!!

Everybody advise to try both! So what's question? Let run both and choose which is better for YOU!! It's like the perfume - somebody loves one smell, somebody another one, but they are both on the same level! So I think parallels and fusion are almost the same, only your own feeling will help you to make a right choice!!! I began with parallels, that's why I do not know anything about fusion! I like it, for me it's fast - no problem.
