I think the Apps are FANTASTIC. And especially at their prices. I hope they hold them. The U.S & Canada are a steal at $39.99 but it's supposed to go up any day now.
The only feature lacking from this version is the Distance & Time to Destination once you start moving. It's there on the bottom bar of the Starting Street until you start moving. Then, it's replaced by the current street name. Other than than, it is great! I've asked them to fix this. They have been great at answering the support requests that are entered on their website. At first, they were very slow at answering them, but that has now improved drastically. They answer within a couple of days.

Just playing with it and having it do the route simulation, I do not hear street names ....... just "turn right, turn left, take the ramp" etc. Also, I don't see any option that allows real time traffic.

Perhaps the announcing street names option only work while actually driving....... and not during the simulation.

It looks exactly like the old version, at least in terms of functionality. No TTS, no traffic. It looks nothing like the version that they showed in the video many months ago. Very glad I bought Navigon instead of waiting for Gmap to come up to speed.

That what I'm seeing too .... and like you I'm so glad that I bought Navigon, and at the lower price. Honestly, Navigon has it beat by a mile.

First install did nothing- remained at 1.3.1
deleted app and reinstalled and now I have 2.0

lots of bugs...especially in contact integration. Most addresses dont work, the few that do display an odd California address, despite directing me to the correct address which was 1000 miles away.

I dont see traffic anywhere.

App settings are in two places, what a pain. Put them all inside the app where they belong.

See if you can change your default city. If you go into poi, the city, then you can set default city / state.

I have the Canada version and I have no options except Ontario for some reason. So I am stuck with with it making suggestions from the other side of the country.

I cannot see anywhere in the West, East, or U.S. & Canada version to set a default City under POI, or anywhere else.

No, they seem to have discontinued Text To Speech (TTS, or TBT -Turn By Turn) in the 2.0 updates for West & East. This is completely unsatisfactory! People spent good money on these Apps and for them to add Landscape and take away TTS. The programs are next to useless without this feature. You can use Google Maps and it is Free. What were they thinking? Forcing you to spend another large sum of money to upgrade to U.S & Canada with TTS? I don't think so. Why should you trust them to not take away features somewhere down the line if you purchase the new version?

I tried deleting, and reinstall the App, but, the version does not show. I also had to delete and reinstall to get the Voice guidance to work. It gives the turns, but don't give the street names to turn on like in the new U.S & Canada version.
Most of my addresses seem to work O.K. No, they don't have Real Time Traffic Maps except in the U.S & Canada ver. 1.0 (the New one), and they state it's for 1 year.

The settings have always been in 2 places. Just like a lot of other Apps. You must not have noticed that before.

G-Map had a great program going. It's too bad that they didn't include the street names in the TBT guidance.

If you had bought it, you would know that your posts are totally inaccurate. That is the good thing about the App Store.... your can't write a review if you don't have any idea of what you're talking about.

You know, I thought the same at first because the Speech Guidance wasn't working. I looked under Settings, G-Map West and it showed version 1.3.1 still. This was the same on my wife's iPhone also. Yeah, um ok.... I did buy it and used it extensively when it first came out (US West). Show me where it has turn-by-turn and traffic. No? Can't find it? Then maybe you should back off from calling people liars.

BTW - I deleted and re-installed - still no street names on the voice instructions.

Scooterman1, do you work for G-Map? I think you're the one not reading these posts. You started this thread with "THE NEW UPDATES ARE FANTASTIC. Here are the features they list for the U.S & Canada version on their website:.... text to speech with spoken street names", etc. Just like the description of the app in itunes from the company, one would think that these new so called "updates" would have included those new features in ALL of the updates. It's very misleading and that's what has me pissed off about this company. I have 2 emails from them telling me that the new update will have TTS and it just has to be approved.... If someone like me who actually owns G-Map West, why would I spend more money and buy the 1.3.1 version to get what I was promised? That's not the way to run a business. They should've just given everyone that bought east or west some sort of code or some way to swap it with the newer version or just keep their promise. The TTS is a pretty huge thing and by not adding it to East/West just means they expect anyone that bought it to just blindly throw out more dough for this other version. No thanks.

But hey, for me the bottom line is this..

1. I bought G-Map West when it was $19
2. I listened to the glowing reviews here on Navigon and bought it at $69
3. Navigon gives me everything that G-Map promised and more.
4. I have deleted G-Map from my iphone and now have a gig more of free space for music and videos, so it's all good.

I'm sorry if you feel like we are disparaging an app you enjoy, but the fact is that it has some serious shortcomings. Hopefully these will be improved upon if/when the version reviewed in the TapCritic video is released, but for now - as an owner of both G-Map and Navigon, I feel that Navigon is a much more robust solution.

Try going to their Website, and submitting a support ticket, if you haven't already. They are pretty prompt in responding now. Maybe we can get the shortcomings corrected. This last update, and the New U.S & Canada versions are working pretty good, and very close to the video. As for Navigon, I was considering it until I read of all the problems people were having with it.

I've been a long time user of this app too. I wanted to be fair and waited to post my comments on iTunes until I had used it for a few weeks. At the time I gave it a pretty good review. However, I also noted countless deficiencies and design flaws.

Since then I've had to wait impatiently for the developer to address all these concerns. It took a while, but through maintenance updates and the new 2.0 they have finally met all but one of those suggestions. Even though I've only used the new version a few times since the update, it seems to be a major improvement.

The biggest glaring problem right now is the lack of audio. I emailed their tech support last night and received a response telling me to check all my settings. I made it very clear in my response I know how to operate the iPhone and the issue is in their app. So we'll see if they take any action on it.

I've read mixed results from those of you who have deleted the app and reinstalled it. If I knew for sure that would work and it didn't take an hour to install I probably would of already tried that. Plus my gut tells me that's not going to change anything.

Also, I think a lot of you are rather harsh on the developer. He's listened and made the necessary changes, albeit slowly to improve the software. At least they're listening. And let's face it folks, for what we paid for it, it's a steal. I would never spend $100 for a GPS app. So if this is what you get for $30 then so be it.

I did have to delete it on my 3GS, AND my wife's 3G, in order to get the Audio to work. That worked on both of ours. And yes, it takes quite a while to install, but it did bring back the Audio. No Street TTS though.

Also, I had another thought on G-Map I wanted to present here. I was wondering to myself if G-Map would recognize and use the internal GPS receiver in the new TomTom Car Kit. If so, how cool would that be. The only problem would be if the car kit is activated by proprietary commands from the TomTom app to read the car kits receiver. If it's just a hardware extension of the iPhone's GPS receiver via the docking port or by proximately to the phone's GPS unit then it should work. The key is that the car kit has to enhance (strengthen) the iPhone's existing GPS signal without the help of the Tom Tom app.

What do you guys think?

But did you delete and reinstall? I was disappointed also until I did that.

I think DUMDUM ..., er ah....that is TOMTOM is a colossal waste of money. The GPS in the iPhone has always been good on my iPhone 3G and 3GS the accessory costs more than the App! TOMTOM has been a total FAIL in my book on almost every level I can think of.

Well the Audio is now working after the re-install. Still no street names, but that's ok.

One thing I did notice missing was the distance and time to the final destination. Their manual says it should be at the bottom next to the current street name. It shows that info for maybe 5 seconds but then it disappears and shows only the street name, no destination info. I tried pressing the street name thinking it will switch between the two but nada. Have yet to find an option to turn that feature on.

I am pretty sure you ment to type WE HAVE[[/B] done a great job responding to the problems. Obviously you are a dev of the crappy app. I have serval emails from YOUR company saying that TTS and traffic would come in a free update. YOUR company have just done the basic bait and swtich. You should be kicked out of the app store for this crap. You will get what you deserve for your dishonest. LOL look at your reviews for the East/West version of your app. No one is going to buy your crap again. You showed what kind of company you are running.
EVERYONE who bought the East/West versions should request a refund stating the reasons in this post. The devs have to pay the cost of the refund, not apple. You are a disgrace!
