LOL I was right, they got what they deserved!

Thanks everyone for leaving reviews about this horrendus comany. I was doing a search on Itunes for GMAP, and the East and West versions have been pulled off the store by apple. I hope Apple decides to give everyone their money back for the app. The new app is still listed on the app store, but east and west are gone. It's good Apple is standing up for their customers.

I am pretty sure you ment to type WE HAVE[ done a great job responding to the problems. Obviously you are a dev of the crappy app. I have serval emails from YOUR company saying that TTS and traffic would come in a free update. YOUR company have just done the basic bait and swtich. You should be kicked out of the app store for this crap. You will get what you deserve for your dishonest. LOL look at your reviews for the East/West version of your app. No one is going to buy your crap again. You showed what kind of company you are running.
EVERYONE who bought the East/West versions should request a refund stating the reasons in this post. The devs have to pay the cost of the refund, not apple. You are a disgrace!

No, I don't work for them, or am I in ANY form connected with them except for purchasing the Apps (East, West, and now U.S.- the U.S. was by mistake thinking it was an upgrade). You are either a very dissatisfied customer, working in association with one of the other App developers, or better yet, in need of

I would like the TTS (Street Names) and Real Time Traffic included in the East & West updates also. I had emailed them about updates, and they NEVER promised Street Names. Just Voice Guidance. They also never promised Real Time Traffic in the updates. Quote: ' In next update, there will be landscape mode, playing music running a G-map, contact address, etc. Also it will in free to update the application.' They have responded to requests, and they are the only one, that I know of, that has updated with this drastic of changes. Yes, there are some more things I'd like.
What information from Apple have you received that stated that Apple pulled it from the App store. You state it like fact that it wasn't XRoad that pulled it for some reason. Ask them through their Support Ticket system. They will answer. I have personally sent them more than one Ticket, including the negative comments about the upgrade pricing, new U.S. version not being a free upgrade, etc. Because I believe that I'm not the only one that have communicated this with them, I think this may having a bearing on them pulling the East/West versions for now. I'm standing by to see what happens.

As for Apple giving someone money back for something that delivered exactly what was advertised for the price...... well, keep on dreaming.

Well the Audio is now working after the re-install. Still no street names, but that's ok.

One thing I did notice missing was the distance and time to the final destination. Their manual says it should be at the bottom next to the current street name. It shows that info for maybe 5 seconds but then it disappears and shows only the street name, no destination info. I tried pressing the street name thinking it will switch between the two but nada. Have yet to find an option to turn that feature on.

I have sent them a Support Request about the Distance/Time problem. This is their response:
Dear. Customer,
We are very sorry for any inconveniences it may have caused you.
As for fixing this bug, we would appreciate it very much if you could wait. We will go fix this problem as soon as possible.
Thank you for your suggestion and please feel free to ask question if you have.
Have a good night.
Best regards,

I did get a follow-up email from the developer today suggesting I delete and re-install the app to restore the Audio. Obviously that worked for me.

I did question where the time and distance to the destination went. It used to be at the bottom of the screen above the street name. Now it only shows up for a few seconds before disappearing with no way (that I've found) to display it again. If they can just get that one piece to work I'd be happy.

And as much as myself and others have harped on the functionality of the app, there is still the larger issue of operation. I can't even count the number of times it's told me to exit the freeway to only merge back on or to make a U-turn when going the direction I'm going is correct. I'm not really sure why we get all these mis-calculations, perhaps the processor can't read the GPS data and calculate the route fast enough. I don't know. But I hope one day that gets fixed and it's more accurate with the directions.

I just went back through my old emails from support .... and I quote....

Dear. customer,
Hello.
New G-map V.1.3.1. is going to release in next week or beginning of July.
It is in submission now and voice prompts, TBT, and other new features will be available in v.1.3.1.
You can upgrade your app to v.1.3.1 when submission is over in next week.
Thank you and please e-mail us if you have any more questions.
Best regards,

"You can upgrade your app to v.1.3.1"... not purchase the new one. Like I said in my earlier post, I'm through with G-Map all together and a big supporter of Navigon. But I do hope that for those now that have G-Map E/W and don't want to pay $100 for another GPS app get some satisfaction ... and I'm glad everyone here is calling this company out on their actions (or lack thereof.)

I know that I must be thick, but I just don't understand what you're looking for. It has had TBT (Turn By Turn) since 1.3.1 (at least that version). Turn by Turn told you with voice prompts when to turn. What don't you understand about that? Street Names TTS (Text To Speech) is altogether something different. With the U.S. West, and U.S. East 2.0 updates, we had:
Addition of Portrait, Contacts, Music playback not interrupted by voice guidance, etc.

Here is what they gave you in version 1.3.1:
July 03, 2009 1.3.1 version of G-Map US West and East

New Features
- Voice-prompted real-time turn-by-turn route guidance and an alarm sound at the turn
- Pinch in/out function for map zoom in and out
- Skipping to the next or previous exit or intersection in the Route Preview
- Provide the list of exits and intersections to the destination (Route>Current Route>Route Intersections)
- Compatible with iPhone O.S. 3.0

icon1.gif

Changes
- Direction arrow and the remaining distance on top-right of the map screen

icon1.gif

Fixes
- Direction indication Errors occurred while Hwy Exit
- No address information on Last Destination
- Routing on roads that drivers can't go through(Gray Road)
- Having further destination distance when routing
- No indication on deactivated road when 3D View modes is on
- When house number includes -, no route information is indicated if (-) is not input
- Fixed other bugs

I guess you have to be able to understand what they told you before you can make an intelligent evaluation. After all, they released version 1.3.1 on July 3, 2009.

Like I've said, there are some things that I want addressed like the Distance/Time and U-Turn error prompts like mentioned above. I have submitted a trouble ticket.
They told you what was coming in 1.3.1, in your email from them, they delivered, AND they gave you a FREE update to 1.3.1 AND NOW ver. 2.0. Like I said, maybe it's me that's thick here, but I just don't understand your anger. What do you expect for $19.99, $24.99, or even $34.99. Let the others match that.
Go, take a look at their Version History on their website. 2.0 isn't listed yet, but the others are.

I think I figured out why it tells you to exit and then return onto the Freeway.
It looks as though they have you go onto the Access Road when it shows Red (traffic congestion) on a stretch of the Freeway you are on. I had this happen today with the U.S. & Canada with RT Traffic. It had me go back on when it was blue road.

As for the U-Turn, I submitted a Ticket with the Street Name it was happening on (for the street that I saw it happen on more than once and in both directions). They asked me to wait while they fix that bug. I figured that they would have better luck checking the bug if I gave them the street name so that they could do a Route Preview to simulate the problem.

Received TWO replies from G-Map Support. I'll let them speak for themselves.

Email 1:
The lack of having Street TTS in the new updated is getting a LOT of negative criticism in the Forums. People figure that they've already spent up to $70 if they bought the East AND West versions and you haven't kept them in mind with the upgrade. They feel that you are trying to force them to spend more money to get the U.S & Canada versions. That puts your price above ALL the competition.... Navigon, TomTom, etc. I believe this has been a bad judgement call. Just thought you would like to know how people are evaluating your update decisions. Everyone is recommending buying another product. The have pointed out the lack of Street TTS, Real Time Traffic, and Contacts not working correctly..... among a few other items.

RESPONSE:
Dear. customer,
Hello.
If you have G-Map West or East, you can’t use TTS and real time traffic information. Those application doesn’t have these two features.
We are very sorry for any inconveniences it may have caused you.
Thank you
Best regards,

Email 2:
According to your email below, the new version of G-Map was supposed to be FREE, as highlighted in yellow. I have previously purchased G-Map West AND G-Map East. I haven't even used G-Map East but purchased it because you said that the price was going up.

Since you came out with a different Name for the product, do you have a Redeem Code for me to get the new version (U.S. & Canada)? I have really been giving great reviews for your G-Map on MacRumors Forum.

WOW, that is ****ed up!!!!! I'm one of the ones who purchased g-map and I actually find this hilarious! Outright lies. I just changed my review on Itunes and recccomend everyone else also!

And as for your comment as to what expect for $35 dollars... Well co-pilot is a full fledged TBT GPS app... for $35!!!

Funny thing is, I have NEVER gotten this app to work for me. I work in Jersey City, New Jersey, and the map always shows me in downtown Manhattan, lol. I live on Long Island, and it still shows me in downtown Manhattan. And everytime, I have my location services on. I was an early adopter, bought it when it was $19.99, and it has never worked for me. I got Motion X GPS Drive, and it works perfectly, locates me fast, voice turn by turn, etc, I love it.

well I guess they are lucky for all of us "early adopters" they took G-map East down so now I/we can't write a negative review.... and I'm certainly not buying US/CAN just to leave an informed review.... I'm shocked they are still getting $20 for the individual states....

i'll stick with motionX Drive/GoogleMaps for now and might go for CoPilot in the future...

Pretty smart of them to take the other versions down because they start with a clean slate (US/CAN).

I looked at the reviews for Co-Pilot North America, and watched a YouTube video of it's numerous features. If I get my money back for the G-Map from Apple, I may try Co-Pilot. It looks pretty decent.

Well, Apple is refunding my money on the G-Map U.S & Canada mistaken upgrade purchase. They are also going to investigate the App.

Also, Co-Pilot responded to my question of installing on my wife's AND my iPhone at the same time. Their policy prohibits you from doing that (I think it's also built into the App), so that would make it twice the price for 2 people (and more for a family), and in line with other Apps. I was very disappointed to hear this. So, don't guess I'll go that route either. Oh, well.....

I sent them a nasty note complaining about g-map west and the way they're handling it. I specifically mentioned TTS not being included. They sent back a response of "We're sorry for your disappointment now. But please be patient... We're working on the upgrade" Upgrading what, who knows?

You know though, my daughter has an 8GB 3G. She is better off with the U.S. West as it takes under 1GB, but with the U.S & Canada being almost 2GB, that's a little much. Besides the very long installation time (and possibly long download time, depending you your Internet Speed). Because of the size of the larger App, I think they would be better off keeping the different West & East versions.

We have CoPilot installed on three iPhones. Nothing in the app prevents you from doing this.

Nothing under the Settings, Co-Pilot, License, Activate/Deactivate? Even their online FAQ says in order to move it from one iPhone to another, you have to go there and deactivate it first, then activate on new iphone.

This is great info if you have verified this.

Do you have the latest update (after an earlier purchase), and do the map updates work O.K.?

Maybe the Activate/Deactivate is just for the Live Services. Anyway, very curious.

They state that the latest update has detailed Voice Instructions. Does that also include Street Names to turn on?

Do you have any version of G-Map, Navigon, etc., and how do you like Co-Pilot compared to.....????

No, we didn't have to deactivate it to activate it on the other iPhones. This is the latest CoPilot version. We didn't download it till last weekend so it is the current one.

I haven't found anywhere in the app to go to check for updates.

I believe that I read on their Website, that once you register?????, it downloads the minor changes/updates monthly, and that you get complete new map updates once/quarter. I'm thinking the downloads are automatic. I'll have to read more on that.

Are you happy with the App?

EMAIL TO XROADS:
so your update for us that have stayed with Gmaps for 6months is to
release a New App that we have to spend $35 on?

Please confirm that I am wrong,
Thanks

EMAIL FROM XROADS:

NO, the update of current users will be made including TTS and Traffic, but with cost because TTS and Traffic are coming from 3rd party service.

Are you happy with the App?
I've been happy with CoPilot but it does a few errors here and there with the maps. I'm not sire where they get their map updates from but I think sometimes the maps contain old data that has never been updated. In one area near me that is a field where a farmer just grows hay every year, it lists three streets cutting through that field and yet they have never existed as far as I know. Maybe the maps contain plans that never were completed and were forgotten about.

CoPilot also offers to return you to your starting point once you arrive at your destination, something none of the other apps do.

Still I like this app because it lists 99% of all street names like TomTom but unlike Navigon and all the other GPS apps.

The new G-Map has traffic built in to the maps just like the built in iPhone Google maps. A red or green line appears on highways where the traffic is good or bad and that is the extent of it that I have seen so far.

Both apps have turn by turn TTS. G-Map gets kind of annoying because 2-3 times before your destination, it warns you that you are approaching your destination. That can be good if you are in heavy traffic and need to get over to make the turn.

I do like CoPilot and G-Maps the best out of the 6 big GPS apps.

Email received this morning from G-Map........

Dear. customer,
Hello.
Now we decide to add TTS in near update.
I can’t tell you when it is available, but we will work to do as soon as possible.
We will post on web site when it is ready.
Thank you
Best regards,

Good news. Now let's just hope that the TTS voice doesn't have the same grammar that they do!

No Frekkin way!!! It payed off. All the bad reviews and the emails worked! I live when a few pissed off people can help thousands of other people out. Good work everyone!! What's next?

The TTS voice on the U.S. & Canada IS much better than their email replies.

I went ahead and bought CoPilot. It looks pretty good, except for a couple of things.

My street and address is in a new sub division that is only a little over 1 year old. The entire subdivision isn't there. But, at least, you can go to their website and give them the info and it should appear in an update within 45 days. You can tell it to add your current position, name it, and save it.

More voices for TTS would be nice, or to give Frank speech lessons. LOL It's O.K., but Lisa sounds better (only she doesn't give TTS).

I cannot find a way to enter the Coordinates because the iPhone keyboard that give you to enter the coordinates doesn't have anything but the Numbers AND NO Decimal.

A couple of screens doesn't allow you to go back to the Map View unless you enter info, or press the Home button.

Looks pretty good though with LOTS of features.
