CoPilot Support is FAST to Respond

I submitted a support ticket to CoPilot at 11:56 a.m., and had a response at 12:39 p.m. THE SAME DAY. Less than 1 hour, AND IN ENGLISH. No disrespect to anyone, but this was a very welcome change after using G-Map for a while.

Must be nice. I put in my support ticket at noon on the 12th. Still waiting for a response...

Just got a reply a few minutes ago. It was a pretty revealing email I think... Time will tell...

Dear. Customer,

Good evening.

We are very sorry that we caused this problem and inconvenienced you.

Thank you for your e-mail in which you suggested a G-map app.

We are really sorry that we took it off the G-map temporarily, because there was problem last week, so we've fixed it.

When Apple's submission is over in couple days, you are able to re-download it.

If you have trouble with voice guidance, I would suggest uninstalling, soft reset and reinstalling by first downloading into iTunes to have solved the issue with voice navigation not working.

We are going to discuss the your suggestion for better product in next upgrading.

Now we’ve decided to add TTS and other extra features in G-map East, West and Canada.

It will be available near update.

Once again, we are very sorry that we caused this problem and inconvenienced you.

Thank you.

Best regards,

The TTS voice on the U.S. & Canada IS much better than their email replies.

My street and address is in a new sub division that is only a little over 1 year old. The entire subdivision isn't there. But, at least, you can go to their website and give them the info and it should appear in an update within 45 days. You can tell it to add your current position, name it, and save it.

You can submit street additions and corrections on ALK's Mapsure page. They promise to have them added within 45 days. You can update your maps for free monthly. I just did an update.

More voices for TTS would be nice, or to give Frank speech lessons. LOL It's O.K., but Lisa sounds better (only she doesn't give TTS).

Frank's voice is horrible. I use UK English and its a female computer voice and much nicer sounding.

Also, be sure to play with route settings and set up a custom route. I've found strongly favoring motorways (freeways) while being neutral on everything else gives the most accurate routes. Also be sure to select quickest.

Much better than G Maps and it also has advantages over Navigon, ie, route overview and POI interaction, not to mention over 3 times the POI database.
What I don't like is the British spelling, terminology and military time. Hopefully, that will change in the next North American version.

Traffic is available as an add on. You order it from their website and they give you a key to activate it. But I've found Inrix, a free traffic app, to work better in my area. Still, I've found the gas price feature to be useful.

I just saw this on xroads site today... I looked thru this thread and it doesn't seem that anyone brought it up..... on the site it says:

"The live traffic service will be available as an in-app purchase option at a to-be-decided price since we purchase the service from the 3rd party provider. All the features appeared in the G-Map US & Canada will be applied exactly to G-Map US East/West so that you will NEVER be disadvantaged as our early customers of G-Map. Rather you will continue to enjoy the good product you purchased at a lower price. We're very sorry for any inconveniences occurred throughout this update process."

i thought it was funny.... they capitalized the NEVER, I just put it in bold type...

Follow-up regarding the refunded purchase of G-Map US & Canada.

When I went to post a review (albeit a poor one) I was unable to do so saying you have to of purchased the app before being able to leave a review for it. Clearly I had purchased it. But because Apple gave me a refund for the purchase I am no longer a so called purchaser of the app. More importantly, this mean I won't be able to get any of the much needed updates for the app as well.

So today I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place with G-Map. I can go back to using G-Map West 2.0 which has since been removed from the iTunes store and replaced with G-Map US & Canada 1.0. The problem is they are both littered with different sets of bugs and limitations. I'm not sure which one is the least of two evils.

For now I'm going to wait for the new TomTom car kit. After I get that I'll go back and revisit what if any navigation app I'll purchase or use. All of this could of been avoided is the developer operated with integrity and didn't pull the stunt they did. I hope Apple eventually nails them for violating their developer agreement with them.

I think the posts just before yours suggest that you should be getting the updates to east/west versions; patience.

I had a good chance to use CoPilot for a trip this last week from S. Texas to Arkansas and back a few days later. I REALLY like CoPilot. It is a fantastic App for the price..... on second thought, at ANY price.

G-Maps East 2.01 does have TTS with street names

I installed the update G-Maps East 2.01 and couldn't get the TTS to work. Went through the recommended steps of deleting the application off the phone, restarting the phone, then loading the 2.01 app -- still didn't work.

Come to find out, it appears the app has its own volume control. I already knew my sound settings for voice and for ring were turned up all the way. While in the map view, I pressed the Volume UP button and found out that the volume was turned all the way down within the app. As soon as I cranked it up, I could hear the TTS and it was also speaking the street names that you turned onto. --- Cool!

I agree that they have a big problem with the contact lookup. I have not got a single address to be recognized, but if I go to the contact through the address book and then press on the address, Google Maps finds the address every time. So it seems as if the in-app contact link is non-operational.

Anyways, I'm happy with the enhanced TTS and horizontal option. I'm sure there will be another bug fix for the contact lookup.
;)

At least you guys got tts. Canada version update did not include tts. Did not fix contacts. Did not fix the poi's.

Not exactly sure what they fixed. I am not impressed.

out of the 2 areas i visit most (3hrs apart) it looks like they completely wiped out the POI in one of my areas (90% gone, grocery, theaters stores etc... all gone).... some weird a$$ developers..... kind of sad because it did have potential 6 months ago....

live and learn?

EDIT: doesn't even have the Home Depot or Waleyworld that is 3 miles down the road......

!!! Attention All Gps Developers !!!

The 3.0 OS for iPhone includes cut, copy and paste. Would it be So hard to create an Address Paste option so that people could browse safari, find the Address, copy it , open your GPS App, paste, and have the App understand the Address ? I mean Really ! How hard is it to decipher an Address? You got a Street Name and number, ......and REALLY ! the damn Zip code should be the only other thing you need.

Just a thought.

I've moved on from G-map to Navigon, but I still have a soft spot for G-map since I bought East when it was $19.99. I was sooooo disappointed when I updated to 2.0.1 and it didn't even have updated maps. Updated maps to what Navigon curently has doesn't sound like a huge request. Also, I'm curious to see if the route calculations got any better with this update (I've only tried to within 5 miles of my house... nothing complicated here). They really really sucked in the 1.x versions!

I do like the new UI and landscape views, along with the "ding" to let you know when to actually turn after the TTS does it's thing (the ding is my favorite part of the G-map software). Also, their search feature is second to none.

I wish they had delivered on the maps since my wife still uses G-map. Oh well, I'll just keep loving (mostly) my Navigon.

HEADSUP.....

they came out with a 900MB update!..... i'm sure the reason for coming out with this is because "Dual" the electronics company is set to release their iPod Touch GPS dock/battery in mid February and the demo pics from Dual Elecronics look like they bought the Tech/maps from G-maps......

the GPS/battery dock sells for $180 and is only made for the iPod Touch and comes with the map app.......

worthless company/app IMO......
