ADC Monitors were not perfect

The he is a she. The OP is a female.

Anyhow, one pixel stuck on red is not dead. Nor does one dead pixel make a laptop inoperable.

Unfortunately, these things happen. When ADC displays first came out, they were perfect and, of course, we paid for it. FWIW, a current ADC20 and my ADC22 have about the same number of pixels. The ADC20 costs $600. A few years ago, my ADC22 cost me $4,000. I could purchase 6 ADC20s and still have change left over!

My 2 ADC Apple monitors at a cost of $3,999 each had 3 to 4 stuck pixels on each. I lived with it, it did not bother me. i knew they were there though. And they did not affect my work!

"Red Dot" would mean that it is not a dead, but a stuck pixel. Just gently rub it out. You getting all angry when you have a problem that will only take 5 seconds to fix.

My 22" ACD cost $2500 and I had so many problems with it that I had it replaced 3 times

Most interesting.

I knew a handful of folks who had them and none had any problems. Maybe they had a different lot here in Japan?

Mine is still working fine. No stuck or bad pixels. I have used it everyday for the past 5 years or so. Still has a few years left in it. :)

Its funny how everyone is like "oh its not a dead pixel..its just stuck..blah blah blah". The bigger picture that maybe others are not seeing becasue they dont wanna deal with the fact that maybe some of the new apple products might have some QC issues is that its not your first one that had a problem. You're on your 3rd machine now? I'd be upset too if there was a bright red pixel anywhere on my screen. I'd be marginally ok with a single black pixel but not red or green..etc.

The only suggestion I can give is that next time, buy machines from a large store like Bestbuy or something like that where they have their own 2 week return period (they may even have 1 or 2 days grace period who knows). Anyway I hope you end up somehow having that repaired. I know a bright pixel would bother the hell out of me too.

So I'm still waiting on my refund for my 3rd macbook pro because i had 2 with the yellow tint issue, and various pixel issues (not to mention horrible shocks from the hardrive) and decided to get a macbook instead. I've had it 2 weeks as of tomorrow and guess what.... it just had a dead pixel show up....I know apple won't exchange it for a pixel and there is no way i'm going to be able to use this anymore (i'm anal retentive and the pixel thing is a massive issue) so basically I now have a 1600 dollar paper weight. I think I"m done with laptops..In a month I've had 4 and they all were pretty crappy. Sigh. Too bad, but that red dot will just totally bug me so much I won't be able to use this darn thing anymore...

Yeah it turned out my keyboard was screwed up too and I had a bluetooth issue as well so they replaced the machine and the big reason I was so pist about the pixel was that I had gone through 3 Macbook pros with the yellow issue and so traded in for the Macbook b/c the Pros were so problematic. I didn't even realize how bad my keyboard was until I opened up the new one, I figured that was just how they were and the new one's trackpad is much more responsive as well. Its just a PITA b/c EVERYTIME they exchange them I have to reinstall all my programs. It is a sad state of affairs when you have to go through 5 notebooks to get one that works.

So use something with a CRT. Dead/Stuck pixels are a fact of life with LCD's.

Yeah except for the fact that I've never had a problem with either of my widescreen Dell monitors, my flat panel LCD TVs or any other laptop me or my husband have owned (and since he's in I.T we have about 10 computers between the two of us). The issue isn't LCD its Apple piss poor QC

I highly doubt that. Newspaper employs about 40+ ACDs that I have seen and about twice as much Apple towers with no problems.

I have been using Apple products for far too long and the only problems I have encountered with them is when someone else does something wrong. I think it's more luck of the draw.

In fact. The only machines that have been crapping out in my newspaper are the usual Dell Business models, that can't handle anything above surfing the web. Once you open Harris or Fetch its shot to hell.

No, you just haven't noticed it. You are over-examining everything from Apple now because you had the yellow screen issues on your MBP's, so you are 'geared' to find flaws in the screen.

I bet you'll find a number of dead/stuck pixels on your TV if you really look ;)

When I first got my ACD 23" I had to get it replaced because it had one white line around the left edge. Waited a week without monitor.

Then the ACD turned pink around the edges right after 1 year. I did not get apple care so have to live with it.

I have owned various of other brands (SONY, Samsung, Hitachi) and usually I replace them out of old age (or want to get bigger screen).

My experience doesn't really leave me with lots of confidence in Apple's hardware. The Apple store guy told me to get applecare for MBP as they do breakdown more often than desktops.

With Dell you can opt for 5 year warranty, but Apple does not

I had a red stuck one on my 12" PB. I swore it would drive me crazy since it was nearly in the center. I used the thing for two years and believe it or not, forgot it was there after a while. It's like when I paint a room or do other work, I can hyper focus on any small blemish but after time, you don't even notice it anymore. I don't think you're cursed; picky - yes, cursed no.

I remember the Sony Trinitron CRT times where there are 2 distinct lines going across the screen. It was sold as a "feature". Guess what people those days still paid for it.

Some people do not even notice 2 lines!

Red dots drive me mad! I would try to get it replaced! I think they can replace the LCD without replacing the MBP - less likely they will throw a fuss about it.

Personally I don't want my machine for that long anyway. I am selling my current MBP to a friend and it still has Applecare on it.

On another personal note, I have used other companies products: towers, laptops, monitors, and I can say that I have had no problems with many of them unless I damaged them or abused them in some way. I am either lucky or I know how to use my expensive equipment. I used the Apple Studio Display for about four years and nothing went wrong with them. I haven't used the 23" ACDs long enough for a problem to occur, but so far it's been maybe a little over a year and there is nothing. The ten 20" one sitting behind me at the paper haven't had any issues, save for one that just got all twisted in the image, but I think that is a user error if anything, since the 9 others are just fine.

The only machines I can say that haven't worked since we got them have been two towers that an employee urged us to buy and build ourselves. They worked for about 4 months then died slowly, but they weren't built for the abuse of a college editing lab.

Maybe Maryland just gets working machines while everywhere else gets crap???? I really don't know. But I will still stand behind the PEBKAC rule when something goes wrong with perfectly working electronics, since I have so much of the equipment people are having issues with around me, and nothing has gone wrong for years.

Most PC maker's warranties are 5 years, so Apple does seem to have the shortest one in the market. I can't argue with that. Personally I don't want my machine for that long anyway. I am selling my current MBP to a friend and it still has Applecare on it.

What PC maker pray tell gives you a 5 year warranty? I can't think of one. There are hard disk manufacturers that do this, but no PC manufacturers to my knowledge.

I had a perfect run until 2 years ago

I do get the defective parts replaced, but my confidence in electronics is lower than before - I make sure I get max warranty. Where as before I trust that if I pay $$$ for things they don't break down like those made in China. But now everything is made in China! (no offense to China).

Agree that you don't need it for 5 years, but apple makes you pay quite a lot for 2 more years of warranty!

For we warranty is a measure of Quality - people standing behind their product.

5 year warranty at no additional cost (3 year for panel and backlighting)

Or in Dell's case, make low QC PCs to a level where the cost of replacement is cheaper than the cost of making a quality product in the first place. Good that they have a satisfaction gurantee or your money back policy!

I checked online.... and didn't find much, so I will recant my statement. The longest I found from the OEM's site was on HP.com and they gave 4 years total care for $310.

I hear you on the confidence part. Getting faulty equipment will lower ones confidence in the company and product. As for Apple Care... we are already paying a slight premium for the machine and software, so no doubt the cost to repair it will be slightly higher than others. But the cost isn't that much different compared to others. It's about $50, the biggest difference is that many other companies offer accidental damage (when people don't take care of their $2000 toys ) while Apple only covers manufacturer's error.

Does Eizo make pc's? I still don't know of any PC MFG that gives a 5 year warranty standard.

some of you guys need to lay off on the OP. IMO, she has very freakin' right to complain about the dead or stuck pixel. I wouldn't stand for that crap either.

Apple has always been very proud of their products which obviously reflects their insane prices for their products. therefore, until Apple is willing to be flexible on their products that technically aren't perfect then, they should be delivering "perfect" products and nothing less. I had to go through FIVE different iPhones until I found "the perfect one".

to the OP: I understand your greif 100%. I'm the same exact way. if I buy something and it has even a teeny-tiny little scratch on it then I return the damn thing. again, if I'm paying 100% for a product then I want just that, a product that's in 100% perfect shape. if I want something that's not just that, my happy butt will go to the "scratch and dent" section and see what I can find.

other than that, I won't accept anything less. some people are okay with having something that is "good enough". well, that's their choice, but to me, I have very high standards for which I'm not willing to sacrifice for anything or anyone.

I wonder if your product (or service as the case may be) that you make a living off meets that high standard for every single person. And if so, I wonder how productive you are.

High standards? Sure. Perfection? You're looking to lead a miserably unhappy life.

I think when she made this comment, it sort of gave it away:

"I could get them to exchange it but being as I've gone through 4 of these, my husband says i'm pretty much cursed."

So if you were really reading the posts, you would have picked up on this.

We did. It doesn't help any. The guy next door to me also has a husband.
Need more clues.
