Dell offers a 4 year warranty. For 400 dollars.

Yes. that is not a standard warranty. The point I'm making is that Apple gives the 'industry standard' 1 yr on computer hardware, same as every other manufacturer, Dell, HP, Sony, Compaq, etc.

I might stand a dead pixel, but I wouldn't stand a stuck pixel.
Get a new machine! (Sounds like you did already)

I feel for the OP having gone through a couple of MBPs for
backlight bleed and yellow bottom 1/3rd myself (no dead/stuck
pixels though). Apple will make it right for you if you give
them the chance.

I hope she hangs in there, as once you go mac, you'll never go back.

OP PLEASE read!!

to the OP of this thread - First, you should probably try to get a full refund/exchange from an apple store.

However, if this doesn't work (or isn't satisfactory to you), I am in the market for a Macbook. I planned on waiting until early January, but maybe we can help each other here. You say the thing is a paperweight with the dead pixel; I could live with it. Depending on the exact specifications (RAM, harddrive, etc.), I might be willing to take it off your hands for a discounted price. Send me a PM if interested in discussing further...

Sony, Fujitsu offers 3 years STANDARD on Vaio in Japan.

You can argue that it is just a matter of including the cost of warranty into the price.

In Japan, Japanese manufacturers offer 3yrs standard. The notebooks are made in Japan so they carry a premium but they "gurantee" quality.

I love that word. Not that I am bashing you Jabba, just that the word is thrown around like it actually means something other than a promise. And if that promise is not kept nothing spectacular will happen, they will just replace the machine like Apple has done plenty of times.

In my book, warranties don't mean that much. There is no way I would ever pay $400 for a 4 year warranty when I won't even keep the machine that long.

I don't understand why people can be so blindly loyal to apple that they'll accept faulty equipment, and snarl at those who don't. If you are paying top dollar for a machine, it is only right that it be functional out of the box. Is that too much to ask? I don't think it is.

Apple's quality control is APPALLING nowdays and the unconditional fanboy attitude isn't helping that at all.

So **** and allow the OP to be annoyed about having 3 (or 4?) faulty machines! It can and should be dealt with.

I don't think anyone is being a fanboy about anything so far. Calm down :D take a load off.

I think the general consensus in this thread is that most Apple buyers haven't gotten any faulty equipment at all. I am on my fourth machine and have not had any issues or faults. My Power Mac G5's power supply went up about 8 months ago and I took it back to Apple and they replaced it, no problem.

If I ever did get a faulty machine or piece of software from Apple I would do like the OP did and take it back. Apple's QC is just like everyone else's in my opinion, average.

As for people accepting faulty equipment, look at the Windows world for a bigger bunch of fanboys. They accepted Vista with open arms and got burned. Now many of them are still trying to make the OS work for them.

Her faulty machines have been dealt with.

That's fine, it doesn't Apply here. In Hungary car mfg's only give 2 years, regardless of the cost of the car, standard. Does that mean we should re-think our warranties here? No. Different laws mean mfg's can get away (or not get away) with giving a certain length warranty. As it was said, the warranty is also factored into the cost of the machine (as are car warranties). So the point is moot.

hmmm...

i love this t-shirt;)

My old Sony CRT from 1995 had these. They weren't sold as 'features'. They were a part of how the CRT worked. And unless you looked for them were barely noticeable.

I guess like dead /stuck pixels, some people notice and some people don't.

"They're most visible on a plain white screen, but once you know they're there you can't miss them on any reasonably bright colour."

To reference Tommy Boy (movie). "I can shiat in a box and stamp it guaranteed, that just means you got a guaranteed piece of shiat".

Guarantees mean nothing. What's the stipulation on the guarantee? X dead pixels, X this, X that.

LOL, well the new one is malfunctioning as well. The keyboard is freezing up out of sleep and takes a good 3-5 minutes for it to work. I'm thinking it is a Leopord issues but I was seriously laughing my butt off when I went to type a email and my keys wouldn't work. It kills me, I love my mac Mini, and I have 3 ipods that are great, but in the span of a year I've gone through the macbook/macbook pro trauma, my mom had a bluetooth keyboard that wouldn't work out of the box and she was unable to get Apple to fix it (she gave it to us to try it and the bluetooth never worked) and I had a ipod Classic for a day before I decided my 80G 5.5 generation interface was much smoother then waiting for the spin up time in the new ones. I'm known at my office for being a Mac girl, but jeez, c'mon... Oh and I had sent a email to the sjobs email but that was b/c the Apple rep convinced me to buy 2 macbook pros b/c they made a mistake on my BTO order ( I asked for the most expensive hardrive and they put in the biggest at the time which was the 4200 rpm) so I had 6000 on my card and then they tried to tell me I was stuck with both of them. My dealings with apple have been almost comedic.
