Honestly if the S6/S6 Edge don't wow, the Note 4 is still the best Android out there. The Note series is just mature and great all-around. Perhaps the last great Samsung device with a removable battery. My money is on the Note 4 to win the best smartphone award from GSMA next Tuesday at MWC. I am sorta rooting for HTC and Sony to win it but I think Samsung has got this. The iPhone 6 could also win it based on its huge popularity but iPhone hasnt won best smartphone from GSMA since iPhone 4 which was four years ago.

http://www.globalmobileawards.com/nominees-2015/

And the nominees for best smartphone are...

Apple iPhone 6
HTC One M8
LG G3
Samsung Galaxy Note 4
Sony Xperia Z3

And the winner is...

Got notice that my eBay / Paypal refund for the last Note 4 is in motion so I've gone ahead and re-ordered from elsewhere. Ordered a European unbranded unlocked Note 4. :)

Will keep ye posted when it arrives and the inevitable MRU Review will follow.

Good luck with having this one delivered without problems and looking forward to your thoughts :)

Fingers crossed, thankfully I have bought things from this eBay seller before so I know they are at least genuine.

Also ordered Spigen Capsule and Spigen ultra thin cases and Ultra Crystal Screen Protector directly from Spigen.co.uk

My normal choice is always Glas.tr tempered protectors but can't seem to find any trace of them on Spigens uk site. Are there problems with tempered glass protectos on the Note 4? I know my Moto X's curved edges mean tempered glass protectors do not work properly on it.

Same on the Note 4, unfortunately. I couldn't find one that didn't leave a ghosty border of ~5mm where the screen curves away. Makes the front look messy.

I wonder of the Note 5 will follow the S6 steps, therefore not having removable battery and SD card slot.

I bet the materials will be the same: glass and metal.

It would be a wrong move IMO to increase the price by 100$ for more storage just like the S6 and Apple. It will make the Note 5 so much more expensive.

I really hope the new version of touchwiz makes it to the Note 4 in the lollipop update.

Yeah me too. The fact that many of the apps available through playstore or Galaxy apps store will be updated to the same version, but stock apps like contacts & dialler aren't would irk me.

Maybe with 5.1 lollipop perhaps ? But then a part of me thinks 'this is Samsung' and my Note 12.2 didn't get any update to the newer Touchwiz on the Tab S's that only came out 2 months later - so perhaps not sadly.

When is your phone arriving?

Today or Tonorrow.

My spigen cases definitely arrive today though.

Dropping the removable battery will be a bad move by Samsung. A glass front and metal sides are all that most folk need. Heck, they could make a removable metal rear casing. There's just no excuse. The S6 is possibly a sign of things to come, sadly.

And this is a big problem with the Samsung Experience. They pump and dump devices at an alarming rate. Their interest in a product seems to all vanish after release.

I guess the expectation is if you want updates, buy a new device, but I'm actually getting device fatigue and it's time to settle down. Odds are it will be with an iPhone when the 6S/6S+ drops.

There's a reason why Samsung was one of the only remaining OEMs (and only major OEM) to continue to use removable batteries--because most users don't care about them and never even contemplated having or using a spare battery. Battery life is now at a point where only heavy users may have difficulty getting through an entire day and even then, most have access to a charging cable if needed. Having a removable battery meant compromises in build quality/materials and device structural rigidity, as at the expense of a feature people generally don't care about.

Enjoy your existing devices that have removable batteries because now that Samsung is finally abandoning them, they're going the way of the Dodo.

I'd love for the Note 5 to have no removable battery and metal or glass back. I do lament the loss of the removable memory though. I find the removable battery does nothing for me, the Note 4 lasts 2-3 days, has adaptive fast charge that gets me from 0-50% in 30 min (isn't the S6 even faster than that?) and has the ultra power saver mode which you get all day out of like 10%. I have no idea if it's the case, but my guess is that consumers really don't care very much about the removable battery, especially seeing how many phones Apple sells.

I'm on 4 devices between April 2014 and today. (5S, S5, iPhone 6, Note 4).

I don't know how people device hop frequently. It's exhausting.

Maybe the Japanese are on to something and I should just get a flip phone...

I'm usually 2 per every 12 months. I might go three this time. Already have the Note 4, and I might get the S6 Edge(only if green color is available), and will definitely get the Note 5 Edge in the fall.

Six months ago I would not have agreed with you.

With my Note 2 I don't think I could have survived without spare batteries. I used them very often.

I had intended to get one for my Note 4 back when I got it the day it was released but Samsung had none available. Over 4 months later I still have not gotten a spare battery and most likely won't. The Note 4 just seems fine at getting me through the day, and the fast charging ability has allowed me to charge up quickly if I need to run out with an otherwise low battery.

The power saving modes help too. I used the ultra low power saving modes the few times I feared I might drain the battery completely. It lets people contact me without running who-knows-what else in the background.

Samsung has pulled me the for the S4, S5 and Note 4.

I am going to try REALLY hard to resist the S6. Lets see how that goes on launch day.

If it wasn't for the green color edge and the touch finger sensor, I would probably be able to hold out until the Note 5. I also want to see how useful wireless charging is. I never had a device with wireless charging before.
