I just updated my Note 4 to the latest 5.1.1 updated and boy does it make a difference.

So so smooth now. To me it feels even better and smoother than the S6.

The recent apps panel now opens instantaneously. So happy with this.

Don't see much changes apart from a slight design change in the notification panel.

I hope to get better cell reception now. It's been a nightmare lately with phone calls.

Very happy with the update. The phone feels so fast. Feels like new out of the box.

Mine has gotten worse. Seems after a few days if I don't reboot it, the sucker really lags bad, or doesn't respond at all. I am about done with it.

I purchased note 4 recently as a spare phone and have noticed some positives and negatives.

This phone has unusually strong wifi reception.
It connects to wifi router that neither my iPhone 6 nor my wife's iPhone 6 plus wont even see. Now, my MacBook Air does connect to that router but websites load slower than on note 4. I thought that macbook should just kill note (and other phones too) since it propably has bigger antennas.

Anyone noticed this too? I don't remember reading it anywhere in reviews etc.

Also, screen is much easier to clean than iPhone's screen.

Earpiece volume is noticeably louder than iPhone's. Also, while in-call, there is button for even extra loudness. Neat.

There are things in android that surprised me. For example, unlike IOS in Android you can't set ringtone that you bought in google play store as a ringtone, how dumb is that? So I wasted some money (well, very little ) I thought people said that android is more user customizable than IOS.
Also, unlike IOS you can't set independent permissions for certain app to use gps for instance.

Music downloaded from the play store is not available to other apps.

What I do is buy music from iTunes, copy it to my Note 4 and then set that as a ringtone.

You could do exactly same with music from Google Play Store. Simply use the music manager app on your computer and you can download purchased music. One you then put this back on the phone it will be available in all apps. Essentially exactly same as downloading/purchasing through iTunes and syncing ;)

True. I've just been buying from iTunes for so many years that I don't want to have purchases on both services. I just mentioned what I do.

I tend to check pricing on both stores and simply purchase from the cheapest. Then I put the purchased content on both my iTunes Match and my Google Play Music library so regardless they are available on everything.

Hello Everyone,

Any idea of where on the internet I shall get a new Note 4 (EU model) at the cheapest ?
It seems delayed launch of Note 5 keeps Note 4 price fairly high... Thanks!

Congrats and welcome :)

It is a fantastic device, I've had my Note 4 for just over a year now, this thing is truly a Swiss Army Knife, even compared to the Note5. I thought I was going to replace it with a Xperia Z5 Premium or LG V10, but both are not complete replacements, with the Z5P using a Snapdragon810 and no OIS in its Camera and then the V10 having less battery life and a weaker GPU, and both the Z5P and V10 do not have Stylus Pens.

The reception is great, mine gets WiFi and 4G LTE in areas my Mom's Galaxy S6 and Dad's iPhone 6 Plus 128GB can't get WiFi and only get 3G.

WRT GPlay Music, its a Piracy thing, best do as said above.

In terms of Permissions, each app in its settings has e.g. Location and Refresh settings. You can also go to Data Usage in the phone's Settings and set Data Limits on each app. You can even set which WiFi Routers are Capped so that it treats them as it would Cellular Data by limiting apps data usage. ;)
That is just scraping Android customisability.

I still think the Note 4 and Note Edge are the two best phones I have ever owned. I bough them last January so I plan on using them for another year or more.

The GPS kills it for me but otherwise I would rather have had a Note 4 than a 6+ when they first came out. The loudspeaker issue would have been worth putting up with versus the 6+ reloading and freezing. The GPS though, that's what kills the phone. Who can own a smartphone with faulty GPS?

I don't see what's the problem? The GPS in my Note 3 works great (much better than my girlfriend's iPhone, that's for sure).

What's the problem with the GPS? This is the first I'm hearing of a problem.

Note 4 GPS issues are all over the web. Takes ages to get a lock, and then frequently drops it. Plus even whilst actually working the GPS is wildly inaccurate.

Haven't ever had GPS issues with my Note 4, whenever I do use it for SatNav its accurate, more so now with Google Maps allowing downloading and offline SatNav.

I have been running my Note 4 N910F on German DBT FW, the latest OTA that I got a few weeks ago, COK2 has been running beautifully, Android 5.1.1 did a great job in transforming the Note 4, I am just so happy with how fast and buttery smooth it is. Even when doing heavier tasks the phone doesn't seem to build up much heat vs. my mates Note5.

With my sporadic charging habits I am hoping my Note 4's battery will make it to next year October, as I am happily waiting for the Note 6. The rumors of the Galaxy S7 bringing back the MicroSD got me excited for the Note 6. :)

Hoping for:
64GB Internal Mem plus MicroSD
A minimum of 3200mAh battery
Snapdragon 820 or Exynos 8890 SoC
5.8inch 4K display

Fingers crossed!

I picked up one of these for under $300 in excellent condition...T-Mobile variant so I can put roms on it. I wanted a secondary phone (Android) to compliment my primary phone (iPhone), and wanted to spend under $300. This fit the bill.

Its a fantastic device. Still using mine as my main phone. Yesterday I checked out the hotel I was staying in at 9am, went to the airport as sat and did a lot of reading, my flight was only at 2PM, so I hammered my Note 4 with tons of web browsing, LinkedIn, tweets, FB, music listening etc... Got onto the flight, listened to music, flight was only 50mins. Upon landing and disembarking I did a whole lot of phone calls, connected it via BT to my car while driving home. Went out with friends at around 8PM, and by the time I got back at around 2AM, it still had 30% remaining.

Over a year and the battery is still excellent. :)

It has proven to be a great long term device, most times when I've had a smartphone for over a year it tends to fall apart and require at least one visit to a repair centre, the Note 4, knock on wood, hasn't at all required a pickup by Samsung Smart Care.

They are looking for eu model so unlikely...

@Twixt For the price of a note 4 here I'd simply buy an import Note 5 as the price difference is nominal.

Thanks for the advice MRU but I fear Note5 battery aging. I noticed on my Note4 that battery discharging speed is becoming vety annoying (everything is allright up to 50%/60% and then it will collapse in 30mn). Thus after 18months of usage I had to buy another battery, maybe fast charging is responsible for this accelerated aging. Note 5 battery could experience the same but then it would be impossible to change it.
I found a deal at 1400 dirhams in the emirates for a brand new Note 4 which is around 350 EUR, is there any zone locking and if yes how easy is it to remove it ?
