Galaxy Note 4 to launch ahead of schedule as Samsung sets ambitious sales targets

----------

I don't think its going to work. Terrible timing. With all the press that Apple is getting with their bigger phones, there are a lot of people that are considering the Jump to Apple. Samsung needs to get their launches together. How is it that Apple announces AFTER Samsung and releases BEFORE them? Hm? Humans need instant gratification. That was a terrible idea.

Seems like Samsung is a little worried about the iPhone 6+ sales.

to be successful companies need to focus on the customer then focus on delivering. it doesn't matter what the competition does if what you're doing is on-point. insure the lead-measures are in place and the lag measures will follow.

Of course, that's what comp is about.

They made a mistake not getting them out sooner

But they have just sold out of Pre orders in South Korea so people do want them.

Remember what happened the last time Samsung put a lofty goal out there.....

They failed.

How about just focusing on making the best device they can and stop bashing competitors and trying to beat everyone.

You make the best product you can, it doesn't matter what other people do.

And that's why Apple is still the king.

Apple did their fair share of bashing too in fairness. In their keynotes no less.

Making reference to screen size and......what else exactly?

Veiled references to the "other guys"?

Jokes about those "green bubble friends"?

Please....

Samsung has been far more aggressive and blatant.

As far as comparison ads go, at least Windows Phone (the Cortana ads) focuses on actual use of the feature they are comparing versus "Oh you only have 1.2 million pixels? Psh....I have more than that on my Note Tab which means its better".....

Though I wish Microsoft would at least use the updated Siri voice....mine doesn't sound that robotic anymore.

Hasn't Apple been pushing the entire "retina" display thing for a long time now? I don't see much difference there and the other saying they have 1.2 million pixels more, other than one of those being a factual representation and the other an invented marketing term.

Jokes about NFC sharing .
inaccurate comments about android users using years out of date software.
Tim Cook ignorantly comparing Android to Europe.

''The other thing is that Windows pretty much was one thing. Android is like Europe. Europe was a name that somebody came up with for Americans who didn’t understand that Europe was a lot of countries that weren’t like U.S. states. They were very different. Android is many things. How many people who use a Kindle know that they’re using Android? And you see what Samsung is doing by putting more and more software on top. I think it’s night and day. The compare is so off''

Except Retina is simply a coined term for a "scientific" measurement - the pixel density at which a display is sufficiently crisp so as not to see individual pixels at normal viewing distance.

And Apple has never said - "Oh you have a device without a retina display? We have a retina display so ours is better."

Save for the "Mac vs PC" ads, Apple rarely if ever compares themselves to anyone in their ads. Why? Because they feel they are the best and don't need to. If you think that's arrogant, so be it. But what ends up happening is we get ads that showcase various uses and features of the device itself free of pointless pixel comparisons and spec sheet battles.

Apple knows the spec sheet is not where most customers are won.

That's why Apple continues to own the best selling smartphone in the world year after year and Samsung is seeing a decline in sales. Perhaps the Alpha and Note 4 can turn that around.

But think about this - Samsung is the top OEM in the world....they sell more smartphones than anyone each year with hundreds of different smartphones to choose from. Their quarterly record is 86 million handsets.

Apple is currently selling 4 models. They've already surpassed the 10 million mark and are readying another 80 million before the calendar turns to 2015.

Apple rarely (if ever) overestimates....with the 10 million they've sold, another 80 million 6 and 6+s on the way (not to mention the 5Cs and 5Ss that have lower price points and are still appealing to those who cling to the smaller screen and enterprise), Apple could top 100 million smartphone sold in just over a quarter.....

100 million. 4 different handsets.

Regardless of whether or not consumers should care, and ignoring that sales don't necessarily mean better, you can bet Samsung those are numbers Samsung cares about and is paying attention to.

The Alpha and Note 4 are steps in the right direction amidst ad campaigns and the release of other handsets that seem to show Samsung has no idea how Apple does it.

Everyone loves to call Samsung the "Anti-Apple" around here.....but there's nothing Samsung wants more than to be in Apple's position.

Where does this grammatically incorrect quote come from? I don't remember any "jokes" about NFC sharing or comments about Android using software that is years behind.

If you would be so kind as to provide sources, I'd appreciate it.

From our very own mac rumours forum:p

https://www.macrumors.com/2014/02/07/android-is-like-europe/

the NFC joke was made at WWDC last year. About android users bumping devices to share things and made in reference to air drop being superior.

The years out of date software I believe was also said by cook at last year's WWDC.

Yeah I suppose so, although personally I could care less about advertising. I buy a phone for what suits my needs and I don't care about the companies that advertise it, why should I? I'd hate to be the one crying on a forum that my feelings were hurt by Apple or Samsung, heck they are companies in the business of extracting my money from my wallet, not to sing cumbaya with me over a campfire. If I was socially responsible I'd worry more about which company used more slave labor, or which company had more toxic materials in the phone, or which company dodges US taxes or which company has security issues with its cloud storage, etc etc. But instead to worry that one competitor looking for my money insulted another competitor looking for my money is, pardon my frankness, the absolutely stupidest thing I've ever seen.

As for the financials, we get it. Apple sells billions of phones, Apple has billions of dollars in the bank. It's always amusing how people throw these numbers around as if it's their own personal net worth. I'll still buy whichever phone suits my needs, today it's an android phone, tomorrow I may very well purchase an Apple phone again.

There is no secret to what Apple does, they are riding the wave. They make good products and have developed a massive following. Many companies have done that as well, you can look around at all the top selling consumer merchandise, stuff that is "cool" and all the celebrities endorse and use. Once again I'm not denigrating this, Apple is a very smart company and extremely successful at what they do. Other electronics company have been in their place before, and other companies will be there in the future as well, it's just a cycle.

The new large iPhones are certainly doing well and I'm sure will also just the same help drive the sale of larger phones overall. Not just with Apple and their brand.

For the past year+ I've been dealing with comments about my Note 3 and it's size and how do I like it, etc...and people generally were taken back by it. Now going forward, I suspect with more and more larger iPhones out there, the Note and Galaxy sized phones will no longer be seen as "different" or niche as they once were.

Competition is good and the larger size arena is perhaps just now entering a new bump up in sales.

Well said. Completely agree. I was astounded that so many people (especially in the forums) bought the 6+. These were the same people who would never have considered a Note 3, not because it's android nor Samsung, but because it was "too big."

Now that they have the 6+, these same people might be willing to jump ship to a Note sized phone if and when they become curious. As a result, I'm thinking that Samsung's better phone is going to be the Note moving forward.

I still remember the day I got my Note 3. Went out with friends and we were at a bar. We put our phones on the bar and ordered some drinks. I got made fun of by iPhone users and their snarky remarks.
"What the heck is that?! It's Huge!!", "Why don't you just use an iPad to make phone calls?!"."Why did you return the 5 for that brick?!".. Points and giggles with occasional head shakes.
Not to mention my friends sending me those photoshopped pictures of people with iPads to their heads.

Now those same people wait in line to get the 6+. And they love it. Now it's perfect. Bunch of hypocrites.

If someone had the time, you could just do a search in these forums and tons of people making fun of phablets and calling them plate phones.

Now these same hypocrites are in love with phablets. Now it makes sense all of a sudden and conveniently "oh, you get used to the larger size."

Complete joke. It's pathetic.

Well, just preordered my Note 4 from Tmobile for use on AT&T. It's going to be tough to wait for it, hopefully it ships early as rumor is saying.
