If they can get the notifications displaying across that edge, it will get interesting. However, it wont matter as my new GN Edge will be totally covered by an Otterbox because I drop it all the time.

Maybe Otterbox will make a case just for the Note Edge?
Still early to discount a good case.

A scrolling ticker would be amazing! This would make it less obvious when I check my email or text during a meeting.

Exactly! This is one of the main uses for me.

I think the edge would have been more wildly accepted if they showed this feature in a business like setting. The masses just don't have much imagination.

Alternitavely, a curved top edge would be great as well on a smaller phone for times when its inside my coat pocket. A quick peek would be all that's necessary to see the msg.

I think that if curved displays become more common the Note Edge will quickly be a tech dinosaur, sort of like the Droid DNA with one of the first 1080p screens and the LG G3 with the first mainstream qHD display (already outdated snapdragon 801, already outdated by the G3 Cat.6 LTE-A, etc.)

Are they going to release a version for people who hold phones with their left hand?

You can turn it around at any time, because of that but its not perfect as the home button will be then on the top

Then you're holding it wrong.

I like the design and hope to get one. Shame TMO said late Fall so I'm not sure if I can hold out that long since N4 will be released in Oct.

I almost think the Edge and the Note 4 should have been merged into the same phone. This split has has the potential to be a sales killer for both phones.

And the purpose of the "phone" is wasted if you're holding it upside down.
LOL....how do you know? Who holds their phone upside down anyway?
I have no interest in this phone....but some of these negative comments are just funny.

I dont think so because I honestly think the Edge wont sell at all and the big fanbase of the Note line will carry on with a Note upgrade and get the 4.

I don't think the Edge is meant to sell as well as the 4, but I highly doubt it will sell poorly.

Good idea. The first demos last year showed notifications in a case for business users. Dunno if this model does the same or not.

Yes! I've thought the same thing for years. I often carry my phone in a shirt pocket and I'd love to just be able to glance down, without having to pull it out.

Of course, that's what smartwatches are for nowadays :)

I thought the same thing about smart watches until I actually purchased one. Poorly implemented and yet another item for me to charge. Not to mention that I have yet to see one that I would deem acceptable to wear in a meeting without looking like a yuppy.

Uhh, how are you going to answer the "phone" if you are holding it upside down to use with your left hand?

oh....so how will the edge screen matter at all when your phone is at your ear?
Then talking on the phone only works held right side up. I have no trouble using my phone now.......answering and making calls. the edge screen will make no difference when making or receiving phone calls. Your just trying to say something negative and failing rather badly

I think he's referring to the fact that if you hold the phone upside down, the receiver and speaker will now be reversed.

I got that but why would you do that? Who would answer a phone upside down on purpose?

No, you are just completely lost. I made a comment how the edge only works with your right hand. Someone replied you can turn the phone upside down to use the edge with your left hand. I countered that would make answering phone calls cumbersome. At this point you jumped in with complete nonsense. Thanks for playing.

I find the bent screen technology to be fascinating and its interesting to see it put into a mobile phone. But I don't like it in this instance to be honest. I can't really see the point in having icon's down the side and in a place where they can be accidentally touched while using the device. I don't think it looks particularly pleasing to look at either. Each to their own though and if it floats somebody's boat, then good for them. I'm happy with flat screen phones for the foreseeable future. :)

Why wouldn't Samsung make the design symmetrical and have that waterfall type design on both sides, and then implement a software solution to recognize inadvertent touches?

I can only imagine how well that would work :p Samsung aren't exactly the kings of software.

I agree with your post entirely, as I mentioned elsewhere, this phone is a solution looking for a problem.

hopefully this sells no doubt will be interesting to check out in stores.

guess we can call this samsung's 3rd flagship given the specs and the screen.

only different to the note 4 is this is plastic and Note 4 has a metal build, right?
